As things really begin to build up towards the end of the Belgariad, the intense storytelling of Eddings draws you into the tale more and more. As you see more of his characters, you can almost imagine that he is really writing the history of some far off land, they're so real. And the intricate history that he is so good at provides a backdrop for some really exciting and spectacular events. You can imagine this book as a movie, though no film could ever capture the full effect of Eddings' distinctive style.

Throughout all of his books you get that feeling of adventure, but one thing that has kept me reading more of Eddings' work is his marvelous sense of humor. In everything he does, you not only get a serious tale, you also get just a dash of light humor. Though I would in no way call Eddings a comedian, or his books comedy, I still have found myself frequently sitting there laughing my head off while reading them. (People really look at you funny if you do that.)
