Universal Studios certainly had a winner when they released "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys." The show, with a kinder, more modest and (most importantly) more intelligent Hercules than earlier incarnations was an instant hit, as was its spinoff series, "Xena: Warrior Princess" (whose heroine began her existence as a villain-of-the-week on the elder show). Both remain among the most popular shows in syndication.
