Keiichi Morisato is a student at Nekomi Technical Institute, and a fairly talented member of the Nekomi Motor Club. That's not as glamorous as it sounds, though--Keiichi is the low man on the totem pole, which means the most work, the most blame, and the least rewards. At least, that's the case until one night, when he tries to order some takeout food while dorm-sitting. One wrong number later, Keichi has hooked up with the Goddess Relief Office. Enter the goddess Belldandy, who tells our hero that he has been granted one wish. Keiichi, believing this to be a prank, wishes for a goddess like Belldandy to be with him forever.

Aa! Megami-sama (English title Oh My Goddess) is perhaps the most unlikely of the major cornerstones of anime fanfiction. Its exposure in the West has been minimal at best; until very recently, a five-volume OVA series and the haphazardly-promoted manga were the full extent of the available English material. And yet in spite of this, the fandom has flourished. No other anime series lends itself so frequently to crossovers, and with new material constantly arriving (the manga, begun in 1988, is still being written, and a TV series began airing in Japan in early 2005) it shows no signs of slowing.
