MegaTokyo is not a very nice place to live in the mid-21st century. Mass-produced biomechanical robots called "boomers," supplied by the Genom Corporation, rebuilt the city after it was leveled in a massive earthquake. Unfortunately, boomers have a tendency to go rogue, destroying lives and property alike. The AD Police, who are supposed to handle rogue boomers, don't have a particularly great track record--and Genom isn't exactly as pure as the driven snow, either. It's even possible that the rogue boomers aren't as random as is commonly believed. Enter a group of hardsuit-clad mercenaries called the Knight Sabers...
Bubblegum Crisis is perhaps the original cyberpunk anime. The original eight-volume OVA series has spawned prequels, sequels, spinoffs, and a TV series remake (Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040), not to mention an ungodly amount of fanfic.
