Mr. X update:
The plot is basically about relocating settlers on a planet which supposedly provides eternal life. Some Starfleet types go renegade and try to take over the planet (with Data's help--- Hence the 'Heart of Darkness' theme) and Picard has to stop them.

Possible New Insight into the Next Movie
Far Fetched but You never know I got this from the book.
Read the Last Pages of the Trek Novel Crossover by Micheal John Friedman
It may not be all that unlikely for Scotty McCoy and Spock to be in this film
Yes this is scetchy at best but pretty neat to think about (read the book)

Star Trek 9: News from an attendee at a recent convention in Boise, Idaho. Trek Fiction senior editor John Ordover revealed that he had spoken last week with Michael Piller about the film's sceenplay. Piller said the second draft is finished, with the final one due in March. Robert Picardo ('The Doctor' on Voyager) also informed the crowd he has NOT been offered a role in the next movie (pity!, he was great in "First Contact"). Thanks to 'Campino'.

November 18, 1997... This past weekend at a lecture composer Jerry Goldsmith was giving at London's National Film Theatre, he publically stated that he will be scoring the next Trek film. [Scoop sent in by 'ma6jes'.]

Meanwhile, in an interview with Yahoo!'s Internet Life magazine, Frakes confirms his role directing Trek 9. Well, we wanted to hear it from the man himself before we absolutely accepted it. [Sent in by 'Trek Hunter 47'.]

The surprises weren't over yet--somebody asked something about Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Goldsmith said how much he enjoys scoring the Star Trek films, and confirmed that he will definitely be doing the next one. "But after Total Recall you said you'd never do another action film!" "Did I? Oh... I need the money!" Jerry also had time to fit in a damning put-down of synthesized scores, dismissing the current trend to go with electronic music as nothing more than a passing phase. And he signed my copy of Powder, thus sending me into an immeasurable high for the rest of the day...

November 16, 1997... News from a scooper who just completed a press interview with Michael Dorn last Thursday. Most of the interview had to do with this week's Deep Space Nine episode ("You Are Cordially Invited") but he did mention that the new Trek was scheduled to start in March with a projected Holiday '98 release. Dorn also said he's hoping to be in the picture but it's not definite. He also said that Paramount would like to go into a 7th season of DS9 but that wasn't a done deal yet. Star Trek 9: Spock is back? He might just be according the UK's 'Sky Channel', owned by Rupert Murdoch (who pretty much owns half the world). There is some sort of teletext service available on SKY, which apparently reports that the famed Vulcan will be in the next film which will center around the Romulans. No other plot information was given, although there is an interesting rumour of late on the Net that the film will be open-ended (with Picard doing the very symbolic 'riding into the sunset' angle). Finally there has been speculation that the film might be delayed from Thanksgiving 1998 till May 1999, depending upon whether Paramount can find a blockbuster action film to fill its Summer 1998 slot. Thanks to 'Lavesh' and 'Robnhud' for the info.

Brief Star Trek Nine news Frakes directing etc etc. They're going to be doing a LOT more location shooting this one. There's another bridge scene being built in good ole Paramount studios. There'a also a HUGE rock cliff face with all sorts of dwellings (like native american type deals...pueblos or whatever they're called) being designed.

Spy Break. To highlight what Ferdinand said about the location stuff, an agent in the world of Canada sent in the following. He'll be called HUCKLEBERRY!!!

(A friend of mine who works in a bank in North Vancouver said that she spotted Rick Berman, Michael Piller, Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes scouting locations for the 9th Star Trek film in Lynn Canyon Park in North Vancouver, BC when she was hiking there last week. I will try and supply photos of the locations they scouted (it is all over the local news here that they were in town).

Interesting news..... My very FIRST tipster (not the same as before) who was the FIRST to send me a copy of the synopsis for First Contact MONTHS before ANYONE else had it is back on-line with me.
Let's call him, Agent X.
According to Agent X, the film will end with Picard "riding off into the sunset" with his fate undecided.
Hmmmmmm. He also told me that he would have a copy of the script before the first of the year!!! Merry X-Mas! (sorry- bad pun) Stay tuned!!! Remember... you'll hear it from ME first!!!!!!

November 8 1997

From a Rick Berman interview in the most recent issue of Star Trek Communicator--an interview likely done before Jonathan Frakes was officially named as director.

Q: Rick [Berman], what's happening on the next feature film?
A: We are still in the process of writing and working on the first draft. The story incorporates all of the Next Generation characters. If one had to make a generalization, the film will have considerably more humor than one might guess. This feature will be completely different from the last one.

Q: Has everybody signed for this film?
A: We'll be using the entire group. In fact, Patrick Stewart will also be serving as Associate Producer on this picture. He'll be getting into the trenches with us during the pre-production of the film.

Q: Is Jonathan Frakes being considered to direct this film?
A: I would say that the odds are most likely that Jonathan will be directing this film.

Q: Are there any familiar guest-starring characters that we may see?
A: That is all in discussion right now. It is hard to say. Will there be some surprises in terms of the cast? You bet.

Timothy received the following information from an anonymous source who claims to be working at Paramount.
>> There will be another starship featured heavily in the next film. That Ship is the "Defiant", commanded by Sisko.
>> Colm Meanney and Avery Brooks were inticed into the seventh series of Deep Space Nine by contracts for the ninth film. There are as yet no plans to bring in any other character from DS9 (apart from Worf of course).
>> Picard will have turned promotion once again and so will have Riker. With Sisko a higher rank than Picard, it makes Picard think. This is going to be a bit of a think em up movie.
>> There will definitly be 2 stories going off (we had 4 stories going off at one point during First Contact; On Earth, Picard and Lilly, the crew vs the Borg and Data vs The Borg Queen). One story will be more dominating than the other. I do not know what the stories are about.
>> One thing is for certain though, there will be NO, repeat NO LOVE LOST, between Sisko and Picard. Ill will between the two is garanteed.
>> The film will involve another Alien Race that we have not met before. (I know this as I am helping to design the look of them).
>> Rick [Berman] is not happy with the scripting. Everyone knows that. We can hear the shouting sometimes.
>> The budget is drastically smaller than First Contact.

Paramount Exec. Don Granger and Ron Moore have both since disputed my inside tipster by saying that the first draft is in fact NOT finished yet being as he's the one overseeing the project.
However, he did NOT dispute the other info I gave below.
