9 November 2199

Global Science and Technology Expo, Brussels, European Union In the wake of the Chinese Revolution, which gave birth to the Union of Eastern Cultures (UEC), the world had found itself in an age of technological and artistic utopia. The Neo-Renaissance, as it would be known as years later, began to churn towards paving the way to a new state of living. While the 'push-button' age remained a far off ideal, the advances in Artificial Intelligence, Cybernetic Engineering, and Genetic Research took enormous steps forward as the age of war and destruction began to wind down. Nuclear researchers, weapon developers, and other scientists who were involved in war materials began to look towards more productive and innovative ideas. These ideas would hopefully help make the world a safer and more peaceful place to live. The pinnacle of these achievements was at the first Global Science and Technology Expo (GSTE). It was here that the greatest gathering of scientific minds was achieved. Not since the Manhattan project had such a large grouping of scientists of such caliber been brought together to share ideas and display their creations.

S. Cain. Dr. Light planned on unveiling his most extraordinary creation, an android equipped with the most advanced artificial intelligence seen to this day; this android's name was Blues. Dr. Light astounded the Expo with his creation, and was given numerous awards from the scientific community. However, neither Dr. Cain nor Dr. Wily were given any credit for their work on the project. Shortly after, Dr. Light received government backing from the United States to commission robots similar to Blues to be used for practical means. By this time, Dr. Light had already completed two more androids: Rock, and his sister Roll. He viewed Blues, Rock, and Roll as his 'children' having no family of his own, and while working on the government robots, he created a few more robots to 'complete' his family. Rush, the robodog, and Tango, the robocat were born amongst the work done on the 6 androids who would soon be known as the 'Robot Masters'.

These six Robot Masters each had their own specific purpose. Cut Man, equipped with razor-sharp scissorblades, was used for lumberjacking and woodworking. Guts Man, with his incredible strength, handled heavy transport and mineral refining. Fire Man, whose built-in flame-throwers were capable of almost incomprehensible temperatures, dealt with metalworking, incineration, and trash disposal. Elec Man, who possessed a self-contained nuclear generator, was capable of providing electricity to almost an entire city during power failures. Bomb Man, armed with the most precise and dangerous explosives, could handle any type of demolitions, from creating tunnels through mountains, to excavating the most fragile of fossils buried deep within the Earth's crust. Finally, there was Ice Man, who was equipped with anti-freezing generators as well as special adjustments to his joints, allowing him to handle any type of arctic mission, especially glacier management, fuel and oil mining, and arctic wildlife preservation.

Through the exploits of these six androids, Dr. Light's fame grew rapidly, while Dr. Wily and Dr. Cain remained hidden beneath his shadow. Dr. Cain, who was a rather humble and shy man, enjoyed watching his old friend and colleague receive recognition for his accomplishments. Dr. Wily on the other hand, was not content.

3 January 2200

Dr. Light's Lab, Minneapolis, Minnesota It was on this fateful day, that Dr. Light awakened to find that 8 of his creations were missing, along with Dr. Wily. He hastened to Dr. Cain's room, and found him in a drug-induced sleep, fear and turmoil washed across Light's mind. The six Robot Masters, his original creation Blues, and his plans for a prototype robot, code named the Zero Omega Project, were all gone, and apparently, Dr. Wily was the one who had taken them.

Mere moments after this discovery, Dr. Light contacted the US government to alert them of what had transpired, although they did not see it as a considerable threat. The leaders in Washington did not know what Dr. Wily was capable of, and what degree of intelligence he had, because just like the rest of the world they never bothered to look into it. Dr. Light spent the next few weeks in a sea of anguish. His colleague and friend, Dr. Cain, did all he could to ease his comrade's pain. Little did they both know what was soon to come

27 January 2200

San Angeles, California The whereabouts of the missing robots soon become frightfully apparent. Dr. Light's worst fear had come true. The six Robot Masters had begun to wreak havoc in the US Megalopolis of San Angeles (formerly known as San Francisco, Los Angeles, and the surrounding areas). Each took residence in different 'zones' of the city, twisting and contorting the land and buildings to fit their needs. The US and the UN were powerless against this threat, as the newfound peace created large cut backs in defensive budgets worldwide. It was now obvious that peace was to be a short-lived dream. Continued in 'news theme6'.

11 February 2200

Dr. Light's Lab, Minneapolis, Minnesota Dr. Light, who blamed the terror on himself, began to work on a way to defeat his own creations. Using one of his 'children,' he created a warrior, one who could stand up to them and put an end to their reign of terror. It was on this day that his 'son' Rock was to be reborn as the blue bomber... Megaman.

17 February 2200

San Angeles, California The Robot Masters continuous barrage of terrorism and hatred began to spread out from their core of operations, quickly enveloping more and more of the Southwestern United States. All had seemed lost at this point, until Megaman appeared. One by one the Robot Masters fell, until Megaman finally penetrated their base, located deep in the forests near the megalopolis. It was then that Dr. Wily was exposed to the world as the culprit behind this menacing scheme. He escaped Megaman's clutches however, and quickly disappeared into the shadows. The immediate danger was over, but Dr. Light knew that it was far from coming to an end. Dr. Wily had managed to retrieve the Robot Masters, and Blues as well as the prototype were still missing. It was only a matter of time before Dr. Wily would make his return to the world.

22 April 2200

The US government, wary of another attack, asks Dr. Light to shut down his laboratory, as well as put his existing robots into stasis. He grudgingly agrees, although he becomes highly uncomfortable with the decision. He later decides to relocate to Tokyo, Japan, where he would be allowed to reactive his robots, and try and live his life in peace, hoping that Dr. Wily would not try to make another attack on the world. He knew all too well that this wish would be in vain.

8 June 2202

Across the globe the Robot Masters reappeared, only this time they were gathered in much larger quantities. Over thirty Robot Masters began to spread terror and destruction across the globe. The governments of the world all began to yield to Dr. Wily's power. Dr. Light was powerless against this new threat as several of his friends, most notably Dr. Cain, were being held hostage by the Yakuza, who Dr. Wily had allied himself with to gain extra funds and manpower. The future looked bleak for the world.

22 June 2203

A German scientist, Dr. Sigmund J. Doppler, in accordance with the United Nations, revealed the world's new line of defense. Working from early advances in Artificial Intelligence, most of which branching from Dr. Light's research, Dr. Doppler created a new type of robot: the Reploid. It was from the Reploid research that Repliforce was born: a large, relatively inexpensive, and efficient global defense force. Shortly after, thanks to the efforts of Repliforce, the Robot Masters began to get pushed back.

4 July 2204

The raging battle between Repliforce and the Robot Masters continued on, leaving mass destruction in their wake. Dr. Doppler, who knew that Repliforce would need something more to give them the advantage, created General, the pinnacle of his creations, to lead them, and Sigma, his most beloved creation, to lead a small group of special operations units. Shortly after, the UN seized Dr. Doppler's research, which he had been keeping to himself the whole time, so that production on a larger scale could begin. Dr. Doppler became infuriated and disappeared, although the UN cared little for his departure--they had the information they needed.

30 October 2205

On the day that would be known as Global Liberation Day for the span of two weeks, Colonel, the second in command of Repliforce, laid waste to the last of the Robot Masters, and captured Dr. Wily, forcing him to surrender and to destroy all of his creations. It was also on this day that Colonel's sister, Iris, was kidnapped. This, however, was overlooked by the world, most of whom saw Iris as just an 'expendable robot' and a grand celebration began. Sigma, who was in love with Iris, became infuriated, and dissappeared with his elite warriors, apparently searching for her.

2 November 2205

In the aftermath of the peace that came after Wily's capture, a new scientist emerged from the shadow of the other prominent doctors. His name was Pavel Alexis Cossack. While his creations were not of the same caliber as the other four, he was still quite a worthy creator. In a sign of goodwill towards Dr. Light, who he idolized, he created Beat, the robobird. The Repliforce, who had saved the world, received his greatest creation, Vava, and a new type of defense mech, ride armor. The Repliforce gladly accepted his gift, but felt they had no use for this new warrior or his mech. Vava was treated with much prejudice by the veterns of Repliforce, something that would soon wear away his patience.

13 November 2205

During a statement from the then Secretary-General to the world, a shadowy figure appeared abruptly on the screens of the billions of people watching. The figure was dressed in a large cape, and behind him stood 8 large reploids. Immediately, every member of Repliforce realized who this man was... it was Sigma. The statement did not last long, but its message was clear: a new menace had now emerged. Sigma announced that he was the commander of what would be known as the Coalition for Reploid Freedom. As the message ended, a symbol appeared on the screen, the same symbol used to designate members of Sigma's strike force when he was in Repliforce... a symbol that would be later known as the Maverick Insignia. As the world sat in wonderment, an explosion could be heard for miles around the area of Sydney, Australia. The CRF had made its first move, and a large one it was. 16 November 2205 Repliforce scrambled to intercept and nullify the CRF's actions, though oddly enough, more and more members seemed to be AWOL. It wasn't until a few days later during a large battle between the CRF and the Repliforce's main strike force that the location of these missing reploids became clear; they had joined the CRF.

22 August 2206

After nearly a year of war, the CRF was finally put down, and the missing reploids put into stasis for reprogramming. Dr. Light himself was invited to help reprogram these reploids, although after testing the first of the reploids, a shocking discovery was made. Within each of these reploids was a virus, one so complicated, that even with the combined efforts of the government's top scientists, Dr. Light, Dr. Cain, and Dr. Cossack, nothing could be done to stop it. The virus was labeled the Maverick Virus. A name that would be imbedded into the minds of reploids and robotic engineers forever. 26 August 2206 During a search of the CRF's headquarters, Iris was found. She was tested and after re-evaluations, no trace of the virus was found. She explained the horrors that Sigma had subjected her to, which came as a surprise to many, as his 'love' for her was well known. As she explained further, it was evident, that the Maverick Virus was the cause of his sudden change of heart. In a unanimous decision by the heads of Repliforce, the reploids infected with this virus were disabled and placed in a containment chamber.

5 December 2206

Vava, who had fought valiantly throughout the war against the CRF, was awarded with a position directly under Colonel, placing him third in command of the Repliforce, and giving him full access to the entire Repliforce grounds. It was also at this time that Dr. Light was given permission to fully reactivate his creations, as long as they kept out of Repliforce's jurisdiction. Something that Dr. Light was happy to adhere to, knowing that there would be situations in which Repliforce would not be able to do its job, due to their commitment to the government.

1 January 2210

As the countdown ended to ring in the new decade, the Secretary-General gave an inspiring speech encouraging world peace and prosperity. It had been three full years since the last need for battle. The Repliforce was given full citizenship, and was allowed to integrate into society. Oddly enough, one member of Repliforce was not at the ceremony: Vava.

26 July 2210

Destruction and sorrow rained down upon the world on this day, the day that the War of the Machines began. The night before, a statement was made over GNN (Global News Network) by a reploid calling himself 'Vile' it was later discovered that this was the new identity of the former Repliforce officer Vava. In his statement, he announced that the right to rule the world belonged to the reploids, not the humans. He proclaimed that the Mavericks (which is what the CRF now called themselves, in respect of the virus that brought them this newfound 'enlightenment') would be the ones to usher in this new age of life and civilization on earth, and that it would begin the next day. However, what Vile as well as the other Mavericks did not know was that a certain person was watching that broadcast; one who would take full advantage of what they said. On this day, when the Mavericks made their first strike, so did Dr. Wily and his newly rebuilt and expanded army of Robot Masters. Within a few mere hours, the entire world was at its knees.

28 July 2210

As the wars ravaged, the Robot Masters and the Mavericks began to edge closer and closer to each other in terms of conquered territory. It was but a moment's time before they too would be at war. Both sides had spies reporting back, and before long, they both engaged in a race for the capitol of the world, Seoul, South Korea. Vile, along with two mavericks, Spark Mandrill and Flame Stag, stormed towards the capitol, while at the same time, so did three of Wily's men, Quint, Freeze Man, and Bubble Man. They finally ran into each other on the front steps of the capitol, and a battle ensued; eventually, only two robots were left standing: Vile and Quint. Before they could even rush at each other, their attentions were both caught by the sound of a whistle. Suddenly, before either of them knew it, a robot blitzed them. Vile promptly fled, but Quint remained to do battle with him. This was the worst mistake Quint had ever made, as he was totally trashed, severing the link between him and his pogo weapon, Sakugarne forever. Once it was over, the robot disappeared, before anyone could even thank him.

4 August 2210

Dr. Light's creations had quickly began to mobilize and try to fight against the threat to the world. He dubbed his robots the Maverick Hunters, as their main goal was to push back the threat of the Mavericks, as they had been deemed the greater threat, due to the virus that they carried. Rock, Magma Dragoon, and a few other members of Repliforce who were not happy with following strict government regulations were among the first members of the Maverick Hunters. The Robot Revolution had begun

19 September 2210

In the wake of a victory the Maverick Hunters had claimed over a Maverick Outpost in Hong Kong, they were attacked by a robot none of them had ever seen before. He made short order of them all, except Rock, who confronted him. It was the product of the plans that were stolen from Dr. Light ten years ago, the Zero Omega project. He introduced himself as simply Zero, and that he was working for Dr. Wily; the two engaged in battle, and Zero was defeated. Rock looked down at him, and reached down to pick him up to return him to Dr. Light, but was stopped by Vile, who had just arrived in his Ride Armor. Rock was forced to retreat, and Vile took the remains of Zero.

9 November 2210

Repliforce by this time had finally gotten unanimous aproval from the UN to begin fighting against the mavericks and robot masters. It was now highly apparent that this war would be like no other. As the war raged on, Repliforce and the Maverick Hunters began to form more uniform alliances and co-operative operations. The Maverick Hunters were now allowed to 'draft' members of Repliforce into their own ranks, where they would receive upgrades and reprogramming, to better suit them for the rigors that the Maverick Hunters encounter. Repliforce on the other hand, could use the Maverick Hunters to do things that government regulations prevented them from doing. It was a sort of symbiosis that the two factions underwent in which they were still completely free of orders from each other, but close enough to help each other out. The war was quickly taking a turn in favor of the 'good guys'.

23 February 2211

Perhaps the biggest blow dealt to the Mavericks in quite some time was dealt this day. Their prize possession, Zero, who they had rebuilt and infected with the Maverick Virus was defeated and captured by Rock, and taken back to Dr. Light. Work began immediately to try and reprogram Zero and cure him of the virus, it was found that he was in fact not infected with the virus, but did suffer massive amounts of cerebral damage. Rebuilding him would not be a easy job, but Dr. Light was up to the challenge.

1 April 2211

In what brings new meaning to the holiday known as 'April Fool's Day,' the Robot Masters launched an operation that would deal the world a terrible blow. Clown Man had infilitrated the UN capitol as a normal comedy reploid to entertain the UN Parliament. Just as the act came to its conclusion, Clown Man unleashed a terrible attack on all in attendance, including Sec-Gen Kurt Bannister, who was known for his peaceful intentions and ground breaking policies that made the quality of living much better for robots and humans alike. The world was washed in chaos, nearly the entire UN Assembly was dead, and there were few men capable of filling the shoes of many of those who had died. This was the edge the Robot Masters and Mavericks needed, and they embraced it with open arms.

June 7 2211

The Robot Masters had staked a claim on the city of Berlin, and held it with an iron fist, led by four robots known as the Elite Masters: Ballade, Enker, Punk, and the rebuilt Quint. The Maverick Hunter strike squad, which included the newly reactivated Zero and Rock, swiftly made an assault on the base, and defeated the four after a grueling battle. Rock and his robodog Rush stayed behind to help out a few citizens as the others went back to base to get repaired, as they had been damaged far more than Rock had. After the citizens had been helped, Rock took a moment to rest before beginning the trip home. It was then that he heard the voice of the one who would be an eternal thorn in his side, Bass and his robodog, Treble. Rock looked in amazement as he stared into the eyes of one who he could easily tell was his equal, and despite knowing he was damaged too much to win, he engaged Bass in a duel. The four fought for hours, exchanging blows, as well as quite a few unpleasantries. Eventually however, Bass struck Rock down, and began to beat him close to death. Before Bass delivered the final blow, the same whistle that was heard before Quint's defeat at the capitol was heard. Bass looked up and scoffed at the intruder, and intent on dispatching him easily, found he was gravely mistaken. He was beaten almost as badly as Rock, and was left next to the Elite Masters to rust on the battlefield. This robot brought the remains of Rock and Rush back to Dr. Light's lab. He indentified himself as Protoman, and remained with the Maverick Hunters until Rock could be rebuilt. The Maverick Hunters now struggled to get by without Rock, but Protoman easily picked up the slack after a while, and quickly rose to the same position that Rock once held. However, even he could not prevent the inevitable gain of power the Mavericks and Robot Masters were accumulating.

28 September 2211

Zero began to have fierce flashbacks which caused him to go into a rage and actually turn on the Maverick Hunters. He was subdued and taken back to Dr. Light and began undergoing a type of therapy. He soon recovered, but was placed under surveillance.

5 November 2211

The war had taken a turn for the worst; the Maverick Hunters and Repliforce were both battered and damaged to highly uneven odds. It seemed that all was lost. The war's direction had turned towards the Robot Masters and Mavericks waring with each other over who would rule the world, while the Maverick Hunters and Repliforce could only sit and watch. It was on this day that a strange space station appeared in orbit around the earth. A great flash of light came from this space station as a beam landed right in front of the UN capitol, where the Mavericks and Robot Masters battled fiercely over who would have definitive control of it. As the light faded, 9 large robots stood there, each shimmering in an aura of energy, one stepped forward and flexed his oversized fist, and spoke one simple phrase, "The darkness shall never overshadow the light, nor shall the light outshine the dark." The war was far from over: in fact, it had just begun.
