From the looks of it, it requires 1 personell from each class (and two
from the navigation class). Locutus will really help because he can
be any one of the 3 color classes. Being able to report aboard will
also aid the borg race tremendously. Unfortunately for the borg,
they may not attack another race unless specifically listed in an "objective".
This is curious, but is reminiscent of the time where the crew just walzed
passed the borg and didn't get attacked because they were not threatening.
All in all, this appears to be an excellent card. Maybe people should
consider placing a Kurlan Nasicose in the deck.
The Dilemma that was revealed was an excellent idea of Decipher (lack
of preparation). The card makes any non-borg race lose 10 points
and get stopped (not discarded) if they don't meet the requirements to
pass the mission. I can imagine the nasty things one could do with
this card. The mission that comes to mind is Investigate Time Comtinuum
that requires Data OR Guinan OR Time Travel Pod. Since Guinan is
in Fajo Collection and isn't that good, and Time Travel Pod is nearly impossible
to get because of the 1 artifact per mission rule, Data is nearly the only
one who can pass this popular mission. Imagine this combination:
First Lack of Preparation, next Positronic overload (the card that kills
androids at the end of the turn) and finally Chinese Finger Puzzle.
If they did bring androids for Data's protection, Data will be stopped
for many turns!!
Decipher luckily also posted rules for First Contact. They entirely
revamp the structure of the game VERY positively.
No two of the same missions are allowed. This really will
change the way most boring Federation decks dual each other (with the same
missions, ect).
One Artifact per mission: This makes sure no one wins
just because of the passing of one mission.
Artifacts may not be reused after they are discarded until reseeded
under a mission and collected again. This really limits artifacts
in a very positive way.
Federation may attack Borg: This makes sense
Leaders are only required to start battles (for autherization) not
to retaliate or continue them: Another logical rule.
Enterprise-E needs the new bridge crew to run it: Is this a
marketting ploy or not...
Captain's Log works with the Enterprise!
Another ruling that makes sense! It's about time!
Both Players must draw out for the game to
end: I CONGRADULATE DECIPHER ON THIS RULING!
Borg may capture and assimilate ships: Very useful!
Borg Do Not Cooperate with other races/neutrals: There goes
the Locutus on Zalkonian Vessel for the automatic captain's log plan
Time Locations involve paradoxes that may erase humas from the galaxy.
Luckily I don't get a headache from temporal mechanics!
Battles are greatly enhanced so it isn't just a strength count between
the two away teams. It is about time!
All in all, the rules look very useful in enhancing the game. I specifically like the Captain's Log ruling and the Drawing Out ruling. This prevents those Kivas Fajo players from drawing out to win. Hopefully the rest of the First Contact cards are as well thought out as the first two. If they are, I may actually buy some First Contact and add to my collection.
The nemesis icon makes the Chang and Pasteur dangerous to have out at the same time. the Chang is slower than the Pasteur, so the pasteur could warp right to the Chang, and at the end of the turn, the Chang would be destroyed. However, the Chang could move to the Pasteur and at the end of the turn, the Pasteur would be destroyed. This will really have an interesting effect on gameplay as most Klingons will have the Chang and the Fek;lhr and most Federations players will have the Future Enterprise and the Pasteur.
The Pasteur is fast. Most people who have the Future Enterprise use its speed only. Now they have an option to just stick the pasteur in, and they will get the same speed for less personell (and also a cheaper monetary price.)
Obrian is sadly lacking because you need to have a Near Warp Transport in your deck to play this card.
The sisters of DuraS are very interesting. The card is very powerful for an all Duras Deck, but do not help decks with Honour.
Spot is the best card in Fajo ;-). The nine lives aspect really makes this card funny! It is also a powerful red shirting tool. Several others have thought of this sort of card. The only thing that can stop spot is Lack of Preparation.
Tallehra is very interesting as she is the only tri-affiliation person. Luckily you don't need her to have a neutral outpost.
