Senator Bossa Silvanfriend was particularly scathing, claiming it was the invisible hand of King Oberon manipulating policy in the republic. "Except it is not such an invisible hand now, since it sits idly in *that* chair," he said gesturing at the proposer of the motion, Laszlo Menelrana. Laszlo sat smiling throughout this tirade, as his fellow senator gradually ran out of adjectives to describe his outrage.
Laszlo finally got to his feet and calmed the chamber with a typically ebullient speech. "My greatest concern, and that of my esteemed colleagues on the committee, is the safety and the future of Koronande. While good relations with Amber are a vital component of our strategy, we will never surrender sovereignty, least of all to the snakes that slither across the border in Tanturak. I will be presenting policies to make sure we are ready to meet the challenges ahead, and to stamp on the reptiles that plot to topple our great and ancient land."
He left the chamber to generous applause, but there is much speculation about what proposals might be tabled with the Senate effectively reduced to a rump.
