Battle Zone Technology: Hapan Ships

STARFIGHTERS (Freighter-class)
- Hapan Miy'til Fighter: This small starfighter is nearly as fast as an A-Wing, but regarded as superior due to its extreme maneuverability. The cabin accommodates a crew of 1 and an astromech droid that serves as navicomputer and can hold 10 hyperspace jumps. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1.5, a maneuverability rating of 30/30, and can fly 1,150 kilometers per hour in atmosphere. The weapons complement consists of 2 front arc firing laser cannons (damage 300 when fire-linked, 250 when fired separately), and 1 front mounted concussion missile tube (damage is 360). The hull and shield strength ratings are 160 and 60, respectively. Cost is 130 points. A character must be a military officer of the Hapan Consortium to purchase one of these ships.
HAPAN CAPITAL SHIPS
- Hapan Nova-class Battle Cruiser: This sleek heavy assault frigate is typically used to escort Hapan Battle Dragons or combat pirates. It is a 400 meter long cylinder with a head at the front and two downward sloping, curved V-shaped wings at the rear. It incorporates design innovations stolen from leading manufacturers, and has enough power to outmaneuver and outrun many modern capital vessels. It requires a crew of 1,790 (includes 90 gunners). It carries 600 troops and support personnel, two squadrons of fighters (Miy'til fighters) and 6 Hapan assault bombers. It has a hyperdrive rating of
1.5, a maneuverability rating of 55, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 25 Hapan turbolaser batteries (damage 350 each) of which 5 are turret mounted, 10 laser cannons for anti-fighter defense (damage 250 each), and 10 ion cannon (damage 150 each). Hapan turbolasers are based on archaic technology that takes three times as long to recharge as Imperial technology turbolasers. The hull and shield strength ratings are 250 and 200, respectively. However, there are backup shield generators with a strength rating of 100 that can immediately be brought on line. Cost is 370 points. A character must be a military officer of the Hapan Consortium to purchase one of these ships.
- Hapan Battle Dragon: This is the primary heavy assault warship of the Hapan Consortium. It is a 500 meter diameter rust colored, yo-yo shaped design. It requires a crew of 1,390 (includes 190 gunners), but with a Command skill of 70 can function with a skeleton crew of 700. It carries 500 troops, three squadrons of fighters (usually Miy'til fighters but lately X-wings have been adopted), an enhanced fighter for the wing commander, and miscellaneous small craft. It has a hyperdrive rating of
2, a maneuverability rating of 50, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 40 perimeter mounted rotational Hapan turbolasers (damage 350 each), 40 turret mounted ion cannon (damage 150 each), dorsal and lateral turret mounted triple ion cannon batteries (damage 380 per battery), 1 tractor beam projector (tractor beam strength rating of 300), and 4 pulse mass generator launching tubes. Because Hapan turbolasers are based on archaic technology that takes three times as long to recharge as Imperial technology turbolasers, they have designed their circular ships to rotate turbolasers so that a fully charged turbolaser immediately replaces the spent ones. This system is so efficient that in a one-on-one fight between a Battle Dragon and a single ISD, absent starfighter support for the ISD to attack the Dragon from points with discharged turbolasers, the Dragon would peel the ISD apart like an electric opener on a can of beans. The Hapans have also employed four separate targeting computers to concentrate fire with pinpoint accuracy on up to four single targets -- a system that can fire-link innumerable weapons, virtually guaranteeing obliteration of the targets. General Han Solo recalls from his early days a Battle Dragon eliminating 17 of a 20 ship smuggler fleet in a single intercept engagement. Presumably this was accomplished four targets at a time, seriatim, since the linked fire control system cannot target more vessels simultaneously. A Battle Dragon commander may therefore determine to throw up a "wall of energy" on a vector in the hope of scoring significant hits on more numerous enemy forces. The pulse mass generator launching tubes each carry, and can launch, 4 pulse mass generator mines. These mines look like a silver orb and produce mass shadows that prevent operation of hyperdrive motivators and, thus, hyperspace travel. The mines have an effective range of 250 kilometers and are operational for 15 minutes. The hull and shield strength ratings are 365 and 150, respectively. Cost is 400 points. A character must be a military officer of the Hapan Consortium to purchase one of these ships.
- Hapan Star Home: This 4,000 year old ship is a replica of the Hapan Queen Mother's castle on Hapan, built on a chassis of black basalt hollowed out and reinforced by a molecular shielding system that provides enough protection to withstand a moderate battle long enough to escape. It is 2,500 meters long. There are six power generators, 24 sublight drives and 4 slaved hyperspace engines. It requires a crew of 9,612 (includes 112 gunners), but can be run by a skeleton crew of 25 with a Command skill of 50. It carries 1,000 passengers, and 60 Miy'til fighters. It has a hyperdrive rating of
3, a maneuverability rating of 55, and is not atmosphere capable. The weapons complement consists of 20 Hapan turbolaser batteries (damage 350 each) of which 4 are mounted on each of the ship's 5 legs, 20 laser cannons for anti-fighter defense (damage 250 each) of which 4 are mounted on each of the ship's 5 legs, and 6 tractor beam projectors (tractor beam strength rating of 300 each), 1 on each of the ship's 5 legs and 1 turret mounted ventrally. Hapan turbolasers are based on archaic technology that takes three times as long to recharge as Imperial technology turbolasers. The Star Home's most dangerous defense is the Ta'a Chume herself, who is usually in residence. The hull and shield strength ratings are 165 and 215, respectively. The Star Home is not available for purchase.
