Bio: Demetrius Simms, known as Demi by his friends, was born on a colony world known as Dicelphi 7. His father was Lt. Brandon Simms, a Starfleet science officer. Demi's mother died while giving birth to him, thus he never knew her. His father spent most of his time surveying Dicelphi 7's various moons. It was on one of these surveying missions that Brandon Simms was killed, he was the victim of an accidental explosion. At the time his father died, Demetrius was only 3 years old. He was taken in by his father's best friends, Commander Franklin Sturgon and his wife Marilyn. They too were scientists. While growing up with the Sturgons, Demi spent most of his life bouncing from one Starfleet post to the next. Eventually, at the age of 15, he wound up on the USS Rhino. The Rhino was an Ambassador class ship in which his adopted father served as Chief Science officer. While on the Rhino, Demi befriended Ensign William Vallandingham, a security officer. The two became great friends, despite the age difference (William was 22 years old to Demi's 15). They were so inseparable that Ensign Vallandingham took Demi home with him on vacation. This was the first time Simms had ever visited the planet Earth, as Vallandingham was from Columbus, Ohio. It was during this vacation that the Rhino was destroyed in an encounter with a Cardassion war ship. The Sturgon's were both killed in the attack. Simms was left with only one friend, Vallandingham. It was his guidance that led Demi to a career in Starfleet. Although Simms seriously considered entering the Science branch like his father, he eventually chose Security/Tactical.
