Imagine
By Alyza
Experiment some day, imagine if you were an Arab and your grandfather came from Syria and your grandmother came from Algeria. Imagine then teaching your children that they were neither Algerian or Syrian, but Palestinian and had lived in the land from time immemorial. Imagine being an Arab and being told you too had to have a building permit... imagine that the town has zoning and you cannot build on land you do not own, or land you own but is zoned for something besides what you want to build upon. Imagine if you built the illegal building without a permit and it fell down because it was not structurally sound.. you would blame Israel if that happened. Imagine being an Arab who left during the war and who wants to drive Israel into the sea and imagine that.
Now, imagine you are a Jew. Imagine being kicked out of your homes in Jerusalem because the British decided an area with 70% Jewish population would be hence forth the Muslim quarter and as such it must be judenrien. Imagine being a Jew and being subject to periodic massacres in the land of Israel for 2000 years. Imagine being a Jew, accepting a partition plan, and having armies of Arabs try to destroy you. Imagine being a Jew and being told that you were not allowed to live on land you purchased and built upon, because now Jordan owns it and Jordan doesn't allow Jews to live in Jordan. Imagine being a Jew and being told by the world that you must live up to an impossible standard... .if you are not perfect, we will print in our media and broacast on our radio and tv that you are evil. Imagine being a Jew and knowing that the world has had a set of collective amnesia, that the world doesn't care about Arab imigration that occured, because everyone who has lived in the land for 2 years is now a Palestinian and one of the refugees.
Imagine that the collective amnesia also ignored the expulsion of Jews from Arab lands, the pogroms that occured there, the persecution and repeated attacks on those Jews who were not fortunate enough to escape. Imagine that the world has forgotten this, forgotten about the houses and property they left behind. Imagine that the world has forgotten that the Jews of Iraq lived there longer than the Arabs... who invaded and brought their culture to the land. Imagine that the world has also ignored the persecution in Iraq of the Assyrians and Caldeans who make up a minority of that land and most of whom have also fled (they are Christians). Imagine that the world harps on a house or two left by an Arab, most of whom left at the beheast of the Arab nations or volunteerily, and then imagine being a Jew who is blamed for every house lost. Imagine being an Israeli supporting refugee camps yearly for millions of dollars, and imagine that money never goes to resettlment. Imagine that despite giving money to support those refugees, receiving no money to support the Jewish refugees at the start of the state... 600,000+ of them (there were about 900,000 total Jewish refugees from Arab lands, but not all of them came to Israel). Imagine all that. Imagine being a Jew who was there at the formation of the state and watching people re-write history to ignore those things you witnessed. Imagine that the majority of the world, even people of seemingly good will, hate you because they believe the re-written history and furthermore have amnesia themselves. Imagine....
