Soft Pawn

You fold and put away your sunglasses, and rock the switch on the torch. A powerful beam of light illuminates the passage ahead of you. The walls are apparently as featureless as the one outside, not at all what you would expect, and partially coated with mould and lichen. There is no trace of decoration and embellishment, and scratching at a patch of moss you find nothing but plain, finished grey stone.

Slowly advancing into the almost completely black interior, you shine the torch ahead. Detritus from six hundred years of forest being blown in leaves the floor muddy and organic, like a pavement next to a park in the Autumn. Up ahead the passage apparently opens out into a room of some sort, but before that you easily spot the first of the tomb apparently ingenious defences.

It is a simple tripwire, trailing in the leaves and mush, with a fair amount of slack. A cursory investigation of the walls reveales an inch-wide gap about halfway towards the ceiling, which runs up and across the corridor, and down the other side. Almost as if something were designed to swing across...
