MISSION: The mission of the Civil Air Patrol is to
voluntarily use its resources to meet civil emergencies , to encourage aerospace
education of the general public, and to motivate young men and women to ideals
of leadership and service through aerospace education and training. CAP's
mission also includes, search and rescue (SAR) and disaster relief (DR)
operations.
WHAT IS THE CIVIL AIR PATROL: A not for profit,
benevolent organization devoted to emergency services, cadet programs, and
aerospace education. Since 1941, the CAP has served America by providing these
humanitarian services using volunteer members. CAP volunteers are unpaid,
concerned citizens doing good works through local community activities.
WHO IS THE CIVIL AIR PATROL: Adults and youth, like you
and me who volunteer their time and resources for the promotion of aviation,
aerospace, and the development of americas youth, through cadet programs and
aerospace education.
FLYING IN CAP: The CAP does not train you to become a
pilot, nor does it assist you in obtaining any FAA certificates or ratings.
However, CAP is an aviation-focused organization, but you do not have to be a
pilot to have a long, satisfying CAP career. Most members are pilots, and they
are aviation enthusiasts who wish to serve-on the ground or in the air. To
become a CAP pilot, as a minimum, you must have at least an FAA private pilot
certificate, a valid medical certificate, and be qualified in accordance with
CAPR 60-1, CAP Flight Management, to obtain the CAP pilot rating.
Cadets receive flight orientation through the Cadet Flight Orientation
Program, as part of their cadet training. This is valuable training and
orientation for the cadet, and gives most cadets motivation and inspiration to
become pilots. Learning how to fly and be a pilot, is why the majority of cadets
join CAP.
