Disclaimer: I don't own Star Wars, GL does, and I'm making no money off this. Rating: PG Here is the list of what-if's that this story follows: -What-if Kyle Katarn (Jedi Knight, Dark Forces games) had met Luke like a month or so before RoTJ? Kyle was a half trained Jedi and Luke finished his training. -What-if Mara Jade was already on the Light Side before and during RoTJ? AND she and Luke were already lovers? -What-if Leia wasn't Luke's sister and not Force-sensitive? -What-if Luke turned to the Dark Side? (Not that I needed to put that one in here, you already knew that!) Please note: That this story is part a series of stories that I intend to write. Oh, yeah Mara isn't in this one, she'll be in Ep II. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... Star Wars Dark Galaxy Episode I Dark Destiny The REBEL ALLIANCE has once again been victorious over the GALACTIC EMPIRE in destroying the second Death Star. But there victory may be very short lived. Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight and the galaxy's last hope, has not yet returned from his battle with Lord Darth Vader on board the Death Star. In hopes that he will return to them soon, the Rebels have returned to their secret base on Dantooine. A young Jedi named Kyle Katarn has felt a disturbance in Force; he only hopes that it does not have anything to do with Luke... "How could they have found us so quickly?" General Naideen wondered as he stared at the monitor in the Rebel command centre; three Star Destroyers had entered the system. "I don't know." Princess Leia Organa said, she seemed very worried about something; her mind was far away from the task at hand. "Your Highness," General Naideen said, "We should evacuate the base. If we set up a defense of fighters to distract those Star Destroyers then we could have enough time to get our cruisers and transports outta here." Leia looked at Admiral Ackbar, who was wondering about the Destroyers, "No," Ackbar said shaking his head, "We lost many fighters in the battle but some of the cruisers are intact and we could use them as a defence." He said. Leia nodded. Han Solo looked at her, he could see that she was distracted. Ackbar and Naideen turned to go to the war room to brief the pilots and come up with some kind of plan. Han placed a hand on Leia's shoulder. "You all right?" He asked. Leia nodded, "It's Luke," she said, "it's not like him to disappear and I can't help but think that he..." Her voice trailed off, Han knew what she was thinking. "Look," He said trying to comfort her, "Luke would never tell em' anything, I just hope that he wasn't on that battle station when it blew." "He wasn't, he's alive." Kyle Katarn stated as he moved to stand next to the two. Han knew that Kyle was right; he just didn't question him about things like this. Han didn't really believe in all this 'All Powerful Force' stuff, but Luke did and Kyle was smart when it came to predictions of the future and that sort of thing. Mon Mothma stepped forward into the war room, Ackbar and Naideen stood beside her. "We have very little time." She said. "General Naideen and Admiral Ackbar will brief you on our plan." They all new what was happening and many of them were very worried about Luke's disappearance. Mon Mothma stepped back and Ackbar stepped forward, "Home 1 took very little damage in the battle of Endor; therefore, it will serve as a decoy to distract those Star Destroyers until we can make our escape. Understood?" Everyone nodded or muttered 'yes'. Han and Lando looked at each other; this was a pretty reckless plan but at least it wasn't going to be the Falcon out there distracting Star Destroyers. "Good luck then and may the Force be with you." Ackbar finished and the pilots began to get and leave. Kyle stood by the door, suddenly a strange feeling hit him; it was a Force presence and it was surrounded by darkness; it seemed familiar somehow but he wasn't sure whom it belonged too. He also sensed Darth Vader's Force presence; he knew it right away because of the anger and darkness that surrounded it but the other seemed stronger and Kyle wondered for a moment who's it could be. It could be Luke's presence he felt but no, that couldn't be it. "Ah, Kyle?" Wedge Antilles broke Kyle's thoughts. "Yeah?" Kyle asked. "The medical centre wants to know if we can use the Crow to transport the men who got wounded during the battle on Endor." He said. Kyle thought for a moment and then he nodded, he could leave abroad the Falcon. "Thanks." Wedge said and he padded Kyle on the shoulder and then turned and left. Han and Lando walked past him out the door; they were deep in conversation. "Hey, Han!" Kyle called after him, "Can I come with you on the Falcon? Wedge wants to use my ship." He asked. "Yeah, Sure!" Han called back from down the corridor. "What's wrong?" Leia asked him; seeing the troubled look on his face, she could tell he was worried about more then just Luke. "Oh, it's nothing." Kyle said; he didn't sound very truthful. Leia could see he wasn't telling the truth. She was about to say something when an explosion rocked the base; the Star Destroyers were firing turbolasers! Kyle grabbed Leia by the hand and hurried out of the room. They were running out of time. Han cursed under his breath as he tightened the last bolt to a panel on his be- loved ship; the Falcon had taken much damage during the battle but thankfully the hyperdrive still worked. "You said 'not a scratch'!" Han yelled at Lando, who was standing next to him, over the alarms and countless noises that filled the hanger. Several X-Wings and other fighters were taking off. "Sorry!" Lando returned as he handed Han another tool. Chewbacca let out a low growl that was directed at Lando; Lando merely shook his head. "All right, that's it!" Han yelled to Chewie over the noise. Chewie growled in return and he and Lando turned and boarded the ship. Across the hanger C3PO and R2D2 made there way towards the Falcon, 3PO grumbled something to Artoo and the two began to argue. They boarded the ship just in time to see Kyle and Leia emerge from one of the tunnels. Suddenly the hanger doors blew open and dozens of Imperial stormtroopers poured into the hanger. Han fired several shots with his blaster at the troopers as he ran up the Falcon's boarding ramp. Kyle's yellow bladed lightsaber sprang to life and he blocked the shots of several stormtroopers, "Go!" He cried and Leia ran across the hanger bay towards the Falcon. Kyle moved forward, his lightsaber seeped through stormtrooper after stormtrooper like a knife seeping through butter. When he got to the Falcon he was about to board the ship when a dark figure stepped through the smoke and blaster shots of the imps and the rebels. Kyle froze when he saw the man all dressed in black; it was Luke! Kyle's eyes widened as he realized that the stormtroopers were taking their orders from his former teacher. But that couldn't be, Kyle knew Luke was better then that, he wouldn't join the Empire, would he? But that was the only explanation. Luke pointed at the Falcon and said something to one of the stormtroopers. Kyle just stood there, he calmly blocked the blaster shots that came towards him, but his mind was elsewhere and his eyes rested on Luke, who must have told Darth Vader the location of the base. Han climbed out of the cockpit and went to the landing ramp, "Katarn!" He yelled, but Kyle didn't seem to hear him. Han cursed and he moved down the ramp. Luke ignited his green bladed lightsaber and using Force speed he ran towards the Falcon, he took out several rebel soldiers on his way. The sight of Luke running towards the ship brought Kyle back to the present. He held his saber up, ready to defend himself. Luke executed a front flip and Kyle stepped back as Luke landed in front of him. Kyle calmly blocked the blows of his former teacher, he could see that Luke was trying to injure him; he probably wanted to take him back to Vader. Han's eyes widened at the sight of Luke locked in combat with Kyle and he saw the troopers were aiming there blaster shots at Kyle and not Luke; his friend had become an imperial, Han couldn't believe it. He fired his blaster and took out one of the troopers. With every saber thrust Luke drove Kyle back towards the ship. An escaping Y-wing zoomed past the Falcon and a stormtrooper hit it several times with shots from the blaster cannon he had set up. The Y-Wing swerved and crashed on the hanger floor; causing a huge explosion that rocked the hanger. Kyle's eyes widened at the sight of the exploding ship and he ducked out of the way of Luke's upper saber thrust. Luke glanced in the direction of the explosion; this gave Kyle what he needed. He thrust his hand forward and used Force push to send Luke flying backwards; he landed several feet away from the ship. Han took out another stormtrooper and Kyle turned and ran up the ramp. Luke stood up just in time to see the Falcon's boarding ramp close. "Chewie, get us outta here!" Han yelled as he closed the door to the boarding ramp and ran towards the cockpit, Kyle followed close behind. The Falcon lifted off and flew out of the hanger. Luke cursed as he watched the ship fly away, "Commander!" He called and an imperial commando walked up to him and saluted. "Bring me the high ranking officers, kill the rest." Luke ordered. "Yes, milord." The commando saluted again and turned and left. Inwardly Luke smiled as thought about the past few hours; from when he and his father had killed Palpatine and escaped the exploding Death Star to when Vader had taken command of the fleet to his being promoted to the status of 'lord' aboard the Executor and all the officers in the fleet pledging their loyalty to Vader as the new emperor. Luke hoped he would get some information from the prisoners as to where the rebel fleet was going. He also hoped he would get a chance to get even with Katarn for beating him. Above the planet the Falcon moved faster then any Star Destroyer ever could, Han's ship swerved and quickly moved out of the way of the Destroyers. When the Falcon was far enough away from the imperial ships, it jumped into hyperspace with the rest of the rebel fleet. Home 1 was making the perfect decoy; it fired an Ion cannon blast at one the destroyers, allowing several X-Wings to get past them and make their escape. Home 1 was rocked by a laser blast from one of the Star Destroyers; the ship turned and jumped into hyperspace; barely escaping another laser blast. Aboard the Falcon, Han set the ship on autopilot and left the cockpit to talk to Kyle and Leia. As soon as he entered Leia turned to him, "You saw Luke, didn't you?" She asked him. Han remembered seeing Luke shrouded in black and locked in saber combat with Kyle. He sat down in his control chair and looked at the star maps. He sighed and turned back to Leia. "He's... an imperial." Han said; he nearly spat the last word. Leia's eyes widened, she didn't say anything. She couldn't believe it, couldn't believe that Luke would join Vader and then she remembered what he had said to her on Endor just before he left: 'I have to face him.' He said. 'Why?' She asked him. 'He's my father.' He told her. Leia closed her eyes, then opened them and looked at Kyle. Kyle looked at her and she saw the sadness in his eyes. "It all makes sense." Kyle said softly, "He must have told Vader where the base was, that's how they found us so quickly." Leia nodded and then silence fell. Han's eyes once again fell upon the star maps; he was distracting himself trying to forget what he had seen, at least for the moment. C3PO and Artoo stood in a corner listening to the conversation, Artoo let out soft beep of sadness and 3PO didn't say anything. They all knew that this was the turning point in their battle against the Empire, Luke would tell Vader all of their secrets. But Kyle knew, more then anyone, that Luke was the only one who could defeat Vader and now that he had gone to the Dark Side he and Vader would be very powerful together. Kyle only hoped that he could be a help to the Alliance, he was a Jedi and they needed that now more then ever. The stormtrooper shoved General Naideen forward, three other high ranking rebel officers stood next to him. Luke walked up to the three officers, he turned to the commando who approached and saluted, "Lord Skywalker," he said, "these three men were the only high ranked officers left in the base, we didn't find Admiral Ackbar or Mon Mothma." Luke nodded. *Of coarse you didn't, you fool, they would have escaped.* He thought. Ackbar was one of the highest-ranking officers in the Rebellion, he would have been one of the first to leave and Mothma wouldn't have allowed herself to be captured. Luke turned and addressed the rebel prisoners. "I'm only going to ask you this once." He stated, "If you value your lives then you will tell me the truth. What is the rebel fleet's destination?" No one said anything, and then the admiral who was on Naideen's right took a step forward, "Skywalker!" He said addressing Luke, "We'll never tell you anything! You low life son of a bi--" The admiral suddenly grasped his throat in pain and fell to the ground, dead. Luke stared at the remaining rebel prisoners, there was much anger in his eyes, "I give you one last chance, tell me what I want to know now or you will end up like him!" He hissed, an edge of anger in his voice. No one spoke, Naideen was ready to die for what he believed in, and he looked at the young commander to his left, why did he have to die too? Naideen did not look at Luke; he was just as surprised as everyone else about the young Jedi's betrayal. Naideen just stood there awaiting his fate. Luke's eyes darted back and forth between the two rebels; they weren't going to tell him anything. "Very well." Luke muttered and he pointed to Naideen, "Take him to my shuttle." He ordered. The commando saluted and then Luke began to walk away when the commando spoke, "My Lord Skywalker," He said, Luke turned to regard him. "What about that one?" The commando pointed to the young rebel commander. "Kill him." Luke ordered, he thought that that the commando must have been a moron if he couldn't figure out what to with the other rebel. Two stormtroopers stepped forward and grabbed Naideen. Luke turned and left. He was going back to his shuttle to return to the Executor. In a few hours he and his father would leave for Coruscant. And then he would have Naideen interrogated for information. The rebel fleet had come out of hyperspace in the outer rim territories; it was one of the last places the Empire would look. The Crow was docked with one of the rebel cruisers. Kyle sat aboard his ship in a crossed legged position; he was meditating. His eyes were closed and they moved like he was dreaming. *FLASHBACK* Luke Skywalker and Kyle sat at the table in Ben Kenobi's house on Tatooine. Luke had just finished his new lightsaber a few hours ago and now he was helping Kyle build his. The two friends laughed and exchanged remarks. *LIGHTNING FLASHS* "Good, use your aggressive feelings, boy!" Emperor Palpatine urged Luke on. Luke's green saber clashed with Vader's red one. "Let the hate flow through you." Palpatine continued. Suddenly the fight seemed to stop as Luke looked back and forth between Palpatine and his father. Then the saber blades clashed once more. Luke turned suddenly and without warning he charged at a somewhat surprised Palpatine. Luke smiled coldly as he brought his lightsaber blade down on the soon-to-be former ruler of the Empire. Palpatine disappeared and his black robes fell to the floor. *LIGHTNING FLASHS* Kyle suddenly found himself surrounded by stars and blackness; he was in space. "Kyle Katarn, Kyle Katarn." A voice echoed in the distance. Kyle spun around and suddenly a ghostly image of an old man appeared before him, Kyle stared at the man in wonder. "Who are you?" He asked. "You will know soon." The old man said. "We have very little time, you must come to the Dagobah system immediately if you are to save Luke Skywalker from ruin." Kyle looked at him, "Save him?" He repeated; he wasn't sure if that could be done. "Yes." The man said, "Come quickly!" The voice echoed and the old man disappeared. Suddenly everything began to get dark... Kyle gasped as he opened his eyes; he was once again inside his ship. He took a deep breath and took in what he had just seen, Luke had told him about Dagobah and how Jedi Master Yoda had trained him there. Kyle wondered if that was Yoda's spirit he had seen. The Lambda class shuttle pulled into the docking bay on the Executor. Several stormtroopers and commandos had gathered to witness Luke's return. Darth Vader and Admiral Piett watched as Luke descended the boarding ramp. Luke approached his father and the admiral; Piett saluted and then Vader turned to him. "Admiral, set a coarse for Coruscant." He ordered. "As you wish, Sire." Piett replied and he turned and left. Luke and Vader walked through the long line of stormtroopers and commandos, "The rebel fleet escaped, did you find anything useful?" Vader asked. "No," Luke replied, "the high-ranking officers wouldn't tell me anything. I brought back a rebel general, though. I will interrogate him later. Katarn escaped aboard the Millennium Falcon with Solo." Vader nodded. "We will return to Coruscant and inform the galaxy of the Palpatine's death. Then you will take command of the fleet and find the rebels." Vader said. "Yes, father." Luke replied and the two headed for the bridge. "Hey, Kyle." Kyle's good friend Shane greeted him as he entered the war room onboard one of the rebel frigates. "I think you'd better come look at this." Shane said. Several rebel pilots were gathered around a hollow projector; Han, Leia, and Chewie were among them. Kyle approached the group and he saw the hollow projector; there was a large imperial symbol being displayed. Kyle knew at once what it was. Then Lando entered, "What's goin'on?" He asked when he saw the hollow. "Some big imperial announcement." Han answered. "Vader's probably declarn' himself emperor." Then the room became silent and the imperial symbol disappeared to reveal Grand Admiral Seren, the Empires third in command. "Loyal citizens of the Empire," He began. "On this day we mourn the death of our great Emperor Palpitine." The room filled with mutters and gasps, then Seren began to speak again. "The throne is therefore passed to the Emperor's second in command; Lord Darth Vader." Silence fell again and Seren's image faded and an image of Darth Vader sitting on the throne appeared, Luke was standing at his right. "Luke!" Shane blurted out, "What's he doing there?" "He's an imperial." Han said flatly, he was trying to hide his sadness. "What!? No that c-can't be..." Shane stammered. He and Luke had been friends for a long time. Han only nodded and then Vader stood and began to speak. "Citizens of the Empire," He said. "My first act as Emperor to promote my son, Luke Skywalker, to Lord Skywalker and to my former position of second in command." As Vader said this Luke stepped forward. The war room once again filled with for mutters and gasps; they had not all heard about Luke's betrayal. "Son!?" Han exclaimed, his eyes wide. Then he looked at Leia and Kyle and saw that they weren't surprised. "Ya could've told me sooner!" Han said; he was a little angry that they had kept this from him. "Sorry." Kyle said softly. Han shook his head and Leia placed a hand on his shoulder; she smiled at him. Then Vader began to speak again. "Lord Skywalker will take command for the fleet and find and destroy the rebels." Vader stated. "Like hell he will!" Someone yelled and there was a bit of laughter. "Now that I am emperor," Vader said. "There will be several changes in the government..." Many of the rebels turned to leave and Kyle turned off the hollow. "Oh dear, oh dear." 3PO said indicating the hollow just before Kyle turned it off. "Master Luke will tell them all our secrets, we're done for." Artoo, who stood beside 3PO, whistled and beeped in reply; 3PO just shook his head. "I can't believe it." Shane said to Han. "I can't believe he would betray us like that. But then if Vader is his father then I guess he had good reason." "Yeah." Han muttered as he watched Kyle leave the room; he was heading for his ship. Leia turned and followed him. "Kyle!" Leia called after him, Kyle turned and Leia walked up to him. "Were are going?" She asked him. "I--" Kyle began. "I have to leave for a little while." Leia just nodded; she understood. "Look after this for me, will you?" Kyle said and he handed her his lightsaber. Leia took it and then Kyle turned and left. Han walked down the hall and stood next to Leia. "Where's he goin'?" Han asked. Leia held the lightsaber up to her face; she knew exactly what he was going to do. Han looked somewhat surprised to see that Kyle was leaving without his weapon, where could he be going without his lightsaber? The Crow moved away from the large rebel frigate and Kyle set a coarse for the Dagobah system. "Captain Katarn," A rebel commander's voice called over the comm. "Return to the frigate at once." He ordered. "Sorry." Kyle said. "But you can court martial me when I get back." With that he cut off the transmission. When his ship was far enough away from the rebel fleet he jumped into hyperspace. "This is your last chance, Naideen!" Luke growled angrily at a very weak General Naideen. Luke was interrogating him and he had already doubled the dose of truth serum, which the needle droid gave him. "Where is the rebel fleet?" Luke asked him again. Naideen glared at him, "Go to hell!" He said in a groggy voice. Luke's anger rose at that comment; he could no longer stand it. Luke lashed out and grabbed Naideen by the throat. "Naideen!" he hissed. "You have information that I want; now your going to tell where the rebels are or your going to die!" Naideen looked at him, he gasped for air as Luke's grip on his throat tightened, he couldn't believe what the Jedi had become. "Then...I'll...die!" Naideen choked out and then he passed out as a result of too much truth serum. Luke realised him and stepped back. "Commander," He said addressing the man beside him. "Take him down to medical and then execute him at sunset." "Yes, milord." The commander was somewhat surprised by the order but he wasn't going to protest. Luke turned on his heel and left the cell. He would return to the Executor and set out to find the rebels very soon. One day later. Kyle reached the Dagobah system in pretty good time. He scanned the service for a safe place to land; Luke had told about how he crashed his X-Wing in the swamp. Kyle wouldn't make the same mistake. Once had found a safe place to land, Kyle brought the Crow down through the planets atmosphere and set down. He climbed out of his ship and looked around; the entire planet was one big swamp, just as Luke had described it when he told him that story a month or so ago. Kyle felt strong light presence, he wasn't sure were it was coming from; it seemed to be everywhere. "Kyle Katarn!" A familiar voice called out to him and he found himself face to face with the old man from his vision. Kyle looked at him, a thousand questions shone through his expression. The old man stepped forward. "My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi," He said. "And you have very little time, you must find Luke before it's too late." Obi-Wan Kenobi; Kyle had heard that name hundreds of times, but he never thought that he would meet the great Jedi Knight. "You want me to save him? How?" Kyle asked, puzzled. Obi-Wan stepped forward again, "Vader has not yet completed his Dark Side training, there is a chance that he can be saved." He said. "How do I find him?" Kyle asked, "He's probably already left Coruscant and taken command of the imperial fleet." "You must look for him through the Force, he will answer if you call to him." "He and Vader want to turn me, don't they?" Ob-Wan nodded, "You will have to pass that test and defeat the darkness if you are to save him." "I won't fall as easily as he did." Kyle stated, "But he will try to kill me if he fails." "Yes, he will." Kyle thought for a moment, he had already decided; he would do it. There was no other way. He looked at Obi-Wan and nodded, "I'll try." He said; he couldn't promise to do anything else. "You will succeed, he is your friend." Obi-Wan stated. Kyle nodded; he only hoped that the old Jedi was right. "Be mindful," Obi-Wan advised. "Don't give in to your anger and hate." Kyle nodded again and climbed aboard his ship. Obi-Wan watched the Crow disappear into the blackness of space. Mon Mothma stepped into the war room aboard the Rebellion's main cruiser, she had talked with Admiral Ackbar and General Joana for several hours and they had decided that if they were going to attack the time should be now while the Empire was still weak from the loss of the Death Star. Many of the faces in the room looked very worried, Kyle had chosen this moment to disappear, and they all wondered where he went. Han, Leia, and Lando sat together in one of the front row. Leia was the one who was most worried about Kyle; she knew where he was going but what if he didn't come back alive? Mon Mothma stepped forward and the room became quit, "In light of our situation we have decided that now would be the best time for attack." She said. A few mutters filled the room. "Our spies on Coruscant have informed us that the Empires flagship, the Executor is on it's way to the Terence System and will arrive there in two days. General Joana." Joana stepped forward, he was a military man and therefore he wasn't very concerned about where Kyle had disappeared to. He was, however, worried about the Jedi's well being. He was one of the few who weren't very surprised at Luke's betrayal, especially after hearing that Vader was his father. He took a deep breath and began to speak, "We have acquired an imperial transport that is equipped with a cloaking device and can hold 4 passengers. A strike team will take the cloaked ship and dock on the Executor's hull; they will then make there way through the air ducks towards the ships engine room. Three sequencer charges planted in the correct area's should destroy the ship." He paused for a moment; "The team will then have a few minutes to escape the ship; the escape pods in that section will provide escape. General Solo will lead the team. General, you have 2 days to assemble your strike team." Han nodded; he had reluctantly agreed to lead the team after Leia had convinced him. It wasn't that he thought the mission was reckless; no that wasn't it, he knew they could pull it off; it was that fact that Luke would be onboard the Executor and Han wasn't sure if he could do something that would cost his former friend his life but he would do it anyway; he had to. Early the next morning the Executor jumped out of hyperspace in the Terence System; they were a day early. Admiral Piett had made sure of that; he wanted everything to be ahead of schedule and he didn't want anyone to make any stupid mistakes that would get him killed. Piett turned to one of his lieutenants, "Deploy the probe droids." He ordered. The lieutenant saluted and turned away to relay the order. They would remain in the system for another day and if they didn't find anything then they would move on. Luke had divided the fleet into ten divisions, three Star Destroyers per division, and given each division a system to search. Just as Piett said this Luke stepped onto the bridge; he eyed the admiral for a moment before he walked to the window and stood in his father's be-loved position. Piett watched Luke curiously; he was just as frightened of him as everyone else on the ship was. It was the fact that Luke was Emperor Vader's son and that thought of that sent chills down the admiral's spine. Many people on the ship wondered if Vader was human or machine but this proved it; he was both and he must have been the victim of a terrible accident. Piett pushed the thought to the back of his mind and turned back to the monitors. Luke listened to admiral's thoughts with great interest, Piett was a good man and Luke didn't blame him for having such thoughts. He was also pleased with the admiral's fear for him; fear was a good thing, it kept the men in line and it made sure order was maintained. Suddenly Luke's thoughts were interrupted by a strange sensation; it was a ripple in the Force and at once Luke knew that it was Katarn; he was calling to him, trying to find him and soon he would. Luke thought about the small saber duel that he had had with Katarn on Dantooine; Katarn had escaped and Luke was angry with that and with himself for allowing him to get the upper hand. Soon he would correct that mistake; Katarn couldn't possibly beat him in a real battle. Kyle opened his eyes; during his meditation he had found where Luke was; he felt his former teachers presence and the evil that surrounded him. Kyle programmed the coordinates to the Terence system. He hoped that Obi-Wan had been right about saving Luke; he didn't think that the Jedi Knight would lie to him. The Crow jumped into hyperspace. The ripple ended almost as quickly as it came; Luke knew Katarn was on his way. "Lord Skywalker." Luke's thoughts were broken by the sound of Admiral Piett's voice. Luke turned from the window to regard the admiral, "Milord, the Emperor wishes to speak with you." Piett said trying to hide his fear. Luke nodded, "I'll take the message in my quarters." He said. Piett nodded and Luke turned and left the bridge. Luke entered his private hollow receiving chamber; it had once belonged to Vader when he had commanded the Executor, Luke stood one the circler platform and an image of Vader appeared before him. "Father," Luke began. "I hoped that you would contact me; Katarn called to me through the Force, he is on his way here." "Yes, I know." Vader said. "When he comes to you, you must turn him and then he reveal the location of the rebel fleet." "And I am to kill him if he won't turn?" It was really a statement and not a question. Vader nodded. Luke knew it really didn't matter if Katarn turned or not; he wasn't as important as finding the rebel fleet. "And now," Vader spoke. "I have one more piece of information which I think you will find most interesting." Luke nodded and he listened intently to what his father had to say. The Crow pulled out of hyperspace in the Terence System and Kyle knew he had been spotted, he sent the message of surrender. Moments later he felt the tug of the Executor's tractor beam on his little ship. "Admiral." A lieutenant walked over to Piett, "We've captured a rebel ship that just entered the system, it's one passenger sent a message of surrender." The lieutenant said. Piett thought about this for a moment before replying, "Very well, take a team of troopers and down to the landing bay and inspect the ship, then bring the prisoner to the detention area and come back and here when your done. I will then inform Lord Skywalker of the prisoner." "Yes, sir." The lieutenant saluted and left. Piett had known the young lieutenant for a long time; the man was an idiot and therefore Piett had to give him detailed instructions before giving him any task. Kyle walked slowly out of the Crow's cockpit and he let the stormtroopers bind him; he would put up no resistance. "Ah, rebel scum." The lieutenant greeted Kyle as he came out of his ship. "Decided that you couldn't beat us after all, huh? Thought it would be best to forgo your execution by surrendering, didn't you?" "Hardly." Kyle replied with some sarcasm in his voice. The lieutenant smirked at that and then suddenly Kyle's face became expressionless. "You will take me to Lord Skywalker." Kyle said putting the Jedi mind trick to work. "I will take him to Lord Skywalker." The lieutenant grabbed Kyle and left the hanger, followed by two stormtroopers. Luke had ended the transmission with his father and he was now waiting in his quarters for Katarn to show up; Luke didn't ask Piett to bring the rebel to him, he knew Katarn would find his own way. Suddenly the doors opened and the lieutenant, Kyle, and two stormtroopers stepped in. Luke didn't bother to turn from the window. "Milord Skywalker," The lieutenant began. "This rebel asked to see you." He pushed Kyle onto the floor. Luke jerked his head from the window and stared at the lieutenant with a fixed expression, "Asked to see me?" Luke repeated his words, an edge of anger in his voice. He then turned and walked toward the lieutenant. "And I suppose if he had 'asked' to be set free then you would have granted that request too?" Luke asked him. "Well, I--" The lieutenant stammered; he knew he was in trouble. Luke raised his hand and Kyle shuddered as he watched the young lieutenant grab his throat in pain, "In this Empire we do not grant the requests of rebels." Luke hissed and the man fell to his knees. "Oh and thank you for bringing him to me, you saved me a lot of trouble." The young man fell on the floor and went limb. Luke raised a finger and the two very frightened stormtroopers dragged the man's body out of the room. Kyle shuddered again at what he had just seen, "You didn't have to kill him." He said softly, he stood up to face Luke. "Oh please, Katarn," Luke sneered, "I don't need a lesson in ethics from you." "You were wrong." Kyle stated. "That man would never have brought me here if I hadn't of used the Jedi mind trick on him!" "I know." Luke said. "We have no room for weak minds in the Empire." With that Luke walked back to the window, a moment of silence fell and Kyle studied Luke in wonder; he was a monster, a great evil. Kyle wondered if Obi-Wan had merely just told him that Luke could be saved so he would be more confident and truly believe he could save him. "I know why you're here." Luke spoke up and broke the silence. "You've come to save me from the Dark Side and bring me back to your pitiful Rebellion." "I've come to stop you from doing something you may regret." Kyle shot back. "Stop me!" Luke hissed, his anger rising every second. "If I had to do it all over again I would have made the same choice," He turned to face Kyle again. "So you see, I don't want to go back." Kyle felt his heart sink; he couldn't give up yet. "Luke, what did he offer you? Power? Is that it?" Kyle asked, hoping this would work. Luke waited a moment before replying, "Power? Ah, yes that was one thing and the chance to be with the father I never knew." Kyle looked into Luke's eyes; he saw nothing but evil and hate. Luke wanted to rule the Empire with Vader, and Kyle knew at once that there was probably no way to save Luke but it wasn't over yet, he had another idea. "What about friendship? The Luke I knew would never have abandoned his friends so easily." Kyle said calmly. Luke smiled at that, "The Luke you knew is dead, stop trying to save a dead man!" "Luke," Kyle pleaded, "Take a look around you, open your eyes, and look at what you've become!" That was the final attempt and deep in his heart Kyle already knew it would fail. "You'd like that wouldn't you?" Luke said. "You'd like to see me go back with you but I have found my place and it's not with your pitiful rebellion." Kyle's heart went cold; Luke was right and he knew it. "If the Rebellion is so pitiful then why are you having so much trouble finding us?" Kyle asked, using humour as a refuge from what he really felt. Luke walked up to him, "I see you haven't lost your sense of humour." He said. "But a sense of humour won't save you. Now, tell me, what lies did Kenobi tell you about me and your destiny?" Kyle felt very surprised at that, how did Luke know it was Obi-Wan who sent him? "Oh, yes I know." Luke said. "Who else would send you on such a fools errand?" Fools errand? Kyle thought about that for a moment. His destiny? Obi-Wan hadn't said anything about his destiny; maybe it was his destiny to save Luke. Luke studied Katarn curiously; his former student had his mental shields raised high and Luke couldn't here his thoughts. But he could see that Katarn was surprised that he would know that Kenobi sent him. "He said I had to save you." Kyle said truthfully; he wasn't sure why he was telling Luke this. "Did he tell you what you had to do if I refused to return to the alliance?" Luke asked. Kyle shook his head. "Did he tell you that it would be your destiny to kill me? Did he tell you how he wanted to use me as a tool to destroy my own father? Did he tell you about how he lied to me?" Luke pressed, throwing a million questions at Kyle; he had certainly gotten the reaction he wanted. "No!" Kyle exploded. "That's a lie! He never meant to use you as a tool and I'm not going to kill you!" Luke smiled; his plan was working. "I see, then he lied to you just as he did me. But next time you speak to him he will tell you that I will have to die in the name of the Light; he'll try to use you just as he did me." "No!" Kyle's face was bright red; he had to calm down. 'There is no emotion'. He told to himself. 'There is no emotion.' Luke saw what Kyle was doing and he knew he had to act fast if he was going to succeed, "You don't have to succumb to his lies; join me and you can be free from his fools errands." Luke stared at Katarn waiting for his response. Kyle looked at him. He couldn't join him, he was certain of that. And in one word he sealed his fate, "No." He said, "I won't go against everything you've taught me." Luke frowned, but then he remembered that he didn't matter if Katarn joined him or not. "A pity. But I'm not going to kill you, yet." He said. Kyle was somewhat surprised; he thought for sure that Luke would kill him. Then Luke walked back to the window, "I can still use you as a weapon against the Rebellion. You see, I am aware of their little planned attack on the Executor." Luke turned to observe Katarn's response. Kyle's eyes widened in disbelief; the rebels were going to attack? No, Luke must have been lying, but Kyle could sense that he was telling the truth. But why would they attack now? It made no sense. "My father captured one of your spies on Coruscant right after he sent a transmission to the rebels about where my ship would be and when. I am certain they will come to attack tomorrow because that was the day I was suppose to arrive here." Luke continued, "I am also aware that the rebels have stolen an imperial transport with a cloaking device and I'm certain I know how they're going to try and destroy the Executor." A moment of silence fell and Kyle thought about what he had just heard; he knew that Luke would use him to get the rebels to surrender. "You can, however, save yourself the trouble of being used as a weapon by telling me what system the alliance is hiding in." "You think I'm going to betray the alliance and my friends by telling you that?" Kyle retorted, "I don't think so." "That's too bad." Luke said as he walked over to a console on the wall and hit a button. Moments later a stormtrooper entered. "Take him to a detention cell." Luke ordered. "Yes, milord." The trooper grabbed Kyle and walked him out of the room. Luke had observed that Kyle hadn't brought his lightsaber; that certainly wouldn't help him tomorrow. Luke would kill him right after the rebels surrendered and then he could finally return to Coruscant. Early the next morning; the stolen imperial transport came out of hyperspace in the Terence System; they had made sure that they were far enough away from the three Star Destroyers so they wouldn't be detected. Han had selected a group of good soldiers to be on his strike team. Leia, Chewie, and Shane were among them. Han had a gut feeling that they weren't going to come out of this alive; he was also wondering where Kyle was; the alliances only Jedi had to go and disappear when they needed him most. Han pushed the feeling away, thinking it was just the remorse he was feeling for having taken the jab to destroy the ship that his former friend was on. Leia looked at Han; she could see that he was worried and he was trying to hide it. She had much on her mind; she was the only one who knew that Kyle would be aboard the Executor but maybe he had succeeded and saved Luke or maybe he was dead; either way it didn't matter, they still had a job to do and they would do it. Leia just hoped that Kyle wasn't aboard the imperial flagship. "Here we go, Chewie, activate the cloaking device." Leia's thoughts were broken by the sound of Hans voice. The little ship disappeared and began moving towards the three imperial star ships. Luke stood on the bridge of his ship, he looked out into space. There was much on his mind; he thought about how he would kill Katarn after he got the rebels to surrender and how he would return to Coruscant to take his proper place. When he had got up that morning he had ordered Admiral Piett to place high definition scanners in the air ducks and garbage chutes, Luke knew that the rebels would try to get in that way and they would probably head strait to the engine room. Then Admiral Piett interrupted Luke's thoughts, "Milord Skywalker," He said, "We've detected 4 life signatures moving through the air ducks; the signatures are 3 humans and 1 wookie. They are moving towards the engine room in sector F." *A wookie?* Luke thought, *That means that Solo is with them, he's probably leading the team.* Luke thought about this for a moment before nodding his head, "Have a team of stormtroopers meet me in section F and bring me that rebel prisoner." He ordered. Piett seemed taken aback by this, why didn't Luke just send him to capture the rebels? He hesitated a moment and then replied, "As you wish Milord." Piett saluted and then turned to relay his superior's orders. Luke glanced out the window one last time before he turned and left the bridge. Han poked his head out of the air duck and looked around, "It's all clear," He said, "Chewie, gimme the charges." Chewie handed Han the bag of sequencer charges. Han turned and jumped out of the air duck and pulled out his blaster as soon as he landed. Leia and Shane quickly followed; Chewie was the last to get out. Han walked to the wall and peeked around the corner; there was an officer coming. He quickly motioned for the others to come over. The officer walked around the corner, "Rebels!" He cried as he pulled out his pistol, he aimed it at Leia. But Han was faster, "Look out!" Han cried as he stepped in front of Leia and fired his blaster, the officer slumped over on the floor. Han quickly knelt down beside him and pulled his access card from his pocket, they would need it later. Before getting up Han noticed the officer's rank, he was a general. *What the hell's a general doing in this section?* Han wondered. *He should be on the bridge.* Han had served in the Empire for a little while during the early part of his life and he knew much about the ranks imperials. He pushed the thought to the back of his mind and stood. Little did he know that he would soon discover the solution to his little mystery. Kyle sat in his cell; his mind raced. He couldn't believe what Luke had become and he called himself of fool for even trying to save him. 'Did he tell you it would be your destiny to kill me?' Luke's words once again re-entered Kyle's mind, yes, it was true Obi-Wan had lied to him and he wondered why. He didn't want to be forced to kill his former teacher, it didn't matter what kind of a monster Luke had become. Kyle turned his thoughts to Leia and Han and all his rebel friends, they needed him and he had let them down. By leaving he had let them down and now he was going to be used as a weapon to force their surrender and here was nothing he could do about it. Suddenly the door to his cell opened and two stormtroopers stepped in. They motioned for him to get up and follow them. This was it; his friends had arrived and Luke knew where they were. Kyle reluctantly got up and the troopers binded him and led him out of the cell. Han and his team rounded another corner; they were almost to the engine room. Leia was lost in thought, she hoped that Kyle wasn't onboard the ship, but deep in her heart she knew he was. Leia still couldn't believe that Luke was an imperial, but he had told her about his father and how he wished he knew him and now he had the chance to be with him. Leia's thoughts were broken when Han shot another trooper; this was the third one they had seen since they had entered section F. Han handed the bag of charges back to Chewie and he held up his blaster ready to shoot anyone else that came along. They were almost there; two more corners and they would be at the engine room doors. Han turned and nodded at his team, slowly they came around the corner and headed down the hall, shooting troopers as they went. They rounded the last corner and Han and his team stopped short at what they saw. Luke stood at the doors to the engine room; Kyle was on his knees beside him. Several stormtroopers stood in back of Luke and more arrived; surrounding the group of very surprised rebels. Han quickly moved the access card and stuffed it into his back pocket; he didn't want anyone to see that he had it. A moment of silence fell, this solved Han's little mystery; the general he had killed must have been on his way to meet Luke. The imperials had known that they were coming, but how could they have known that? It made no sense. Leia stepped out from behind Chewie and her eyes fell upon Kyle. "Boy, you guys sure picked a lousy time to visit." Kyle said sarcastically. Han smirked at that; even in a bad situation Kyle still had his sense of humour. Luke looked at Kyle and then back at Han, "My father captured one of your spies on Coruscant, that's how I knew you were coming." He said, " And now, Solo, I have a proposition for you." "I ain't making any deals with you." Han said; he was unsure of himself and he had a pretty good idea what Luke would threaten to do if he resisted. "I don't think you have much of a choice, Solo." Luke spoke again, "You will contact your rebellion tell them to surrender to me or he will die." Luke pointed to Kyle who took advantage of the situation and spoke, "Don't you dare surrender! You hear me? It doesn't matter what happens to me!" He cried and Luke hit upside the head, ordering him to be silent. Han froze; he knew that Luke would threaten to kill Kyle and they would have to surrender in order to save the Jedi's life. There was only one other way, Han glanced around; they might have a chance against all these stormtroopers. Han then glanced at the escape pods that were across the hall. Kyle knew what Han was going to do and he began to concentrate, he knew if Han attacked the troopers Luke would kill him in an instant. Kyle slowly felt the binders begin to loosen. Han sprang forward, he shot one of the troopers and the others spread out and shot many of the stormtroopers. Han dropped the bag of sequencer charges and grabbed the access card from his pocket. Luke's lightsaber sprang to life and Kyle's binders fell to the floor. Luke swung at Kyle, who rolled out of the way and got to his feet. Leia pulled Kyle's lightsaber from her pocket and throw it to him, "Kyle!" She called and Kyle grabbed the saber, he ignited it, barely blocking another one of Luke's blows. Han swiped the access card through the machine and his escape pod hatch opened. He shot another stormtrooper and tossed the card to Leia, Leia opened her pod and tossed the access card to Shane, who quickly opened his pod, Chewie and the other rebel solider did the same. Han shot another trooper and his eyes fell on Kyle, who was fighting for his life. Kyle jumped back, avoiding another blow; he swung at Luke. Luke calmly blocked all of Kyle's blows. "Katarn! Come on!" Han yelled and he shot another trooper, he turned back to Leia yelled at her and Shane to board they're pods. The rebel solider was climbing into his pod when suddenly a stormtrooper shot him with his blaster. The solider slumped over. "GO!" Kyle cried and he jumped back again as Luke thrust his saber at one of his legs. Han didn't want to leave but knew he had to; more troopers could arrive any moment. He tossed the access card to the floor and jumped into his pod and hit the eject button. The three pods jumped out of the ship and their rockets fired until they were out of range of the Executor's tractor beam. Han looked out his pods small window and he cursed as he saw several TIE fighters leave the Executor's hanger. Kyle fell to the floor and he rolled away from Luke's saber thrust. He jumped to his feet and continued to attack his former teacher, Luke was better then he was and he knew it. Kyle suddenly screamed in pain as Luke's saber found its mark in Kyle's left shoulder! Kyle's grip on his saber hilt loosened; this gave Luke what he needed. In on swing Luke disarmed Kyle and sent his saber flying across the corridor! Kyle quickly moved out of the way of another saber thrust and he glanced around, trying to find his saber. Kyle took several steps back as Luke swung at him again. Then his eyes fell upon the imperial access card that Han had left behind. He moved backwards toward it, his shoulder ached with unimaginable pain. Suddenly he tripped over a stormtrooper's dead body and he fell to the floor. Luke smiled as he turned and walked towards him, Kyle felt his strength leave his body, and he used his legs to push himself farther away from Luke. Kyle slumped on the floor, his fingers just barely reaching the access card. Luke stopped and stood in front of Kyle, perhaps the rebels had escaped but they wouldn't last long without they're Jedi. Kyle was panting hard now and he clutched his shoulder in pain. His other hand reached for the access card, he almost had it and then Luke saw what he was doing. He walked to where Kyle had his hand and he crushed the access card under his boot. Kyle sighed, he was at a loss, and he didn't know what to do. But at least his friends had escaped alive. "Well, Katarn," Luke spoke and broke the heavy silence, "you really thought you could beat me, didn't you?" "The thought had crossed my mind." Kyle said weakly, his eyes left Luke and he found his lightsaber, it was just meters away from a crate in the floor. He turned his eyes back to Luke. "Perhaps your friends may have escaped but at least I can have the pleasure of destroying the galaxy's only Jedi." Luke said as he raised his saber high, this gave Kyle his last chance. He gathered all his strength and his lightsaber flew into his hand. His saber found it's mark and he slashed Luke's leg causing his former teacher to fall backwards. Kyle leapt to his feet. His mind raced and then he found the last open escape pod and he saw the rebel soldier's dead body lying on the floor. Kyle sprang toward the escape pod, Luke clutched his right leg and he slowly began to get to his feet. Kyle jumped into the pod. Han's escape pod rumbled as he was hit by another laser blast from a TIE fighter. A fourth escape pod ejected from the Executor and Han knew that Kyle had escaped. Suddenly the TIE that was shooting at Han exploded in a brilliant display of light. The Millennium Falcon zoomed past Han's escape pod. Several X-Wings and Home 1 followed. "Bout time you guys showed up!" Han called, over his commlink, to Lando on the Falcon. Lando laughed at that and Han and his friends felt the tug of Home 1's tractor beam on there escape pods. The rebel fighters destroyed the rest of the TIE fighters and once the four escape pods were in Home 1's hanger the Falcon and the other rebel ships leapt into hyperspace. *Epilogue* Kyle starred out the huge window in his quarters aboard Home 1. His right shoulder was in a sling and it had been bandaged. Kyle was lost in thought; memories of his battle with Luke were still clear in his mind. He had tried to save his former friend and teacher and he had failed and in the process he nearly cost his good friends their lives. He then thought about what Luke had said to him when he was aboard the Executor; 'Did he tell you it would be your destiny to kill me?' Those words symbolized the monster that Luke had become. "Are you alright?" Leia's voice broke Kyle's thoughts. "What's wrong?" She asked him. Kyle turned to face her, "How could I have been so stupid?" He said, "You might have succeeded if it hadn't been for me." Leia walked up to him, she had been his good friend since Luke had started training him and she cared deeply for him. "There was no way you could have known." She said attempting to make him feel better. "I could have stopped him, if only I had gone after him when he went to the Death Star." Kyle said, sadness in his voice. "You wouldn't have been able to save him, Vader would have captured you too." Kyle hung his head, he felt so helpless. He knew she was right; he couldn't have done anything. Luke had defeated him; he wouldn't be much help to the Alliance if he couldn't even beat Luke in battle. "Kyle, listen to me." Leia spoke again; her voice was soft. "You can't change what happened to him." Kyle's eyes met Leia's; she was right; there was no sense dwelling on the past. What was done was done and he couldn't change it. Now he had a job to do; he had to help the rebellion. Kyle resolved that he would go and talk to Obi-Wan as soon as he could. He would find out why the old man had lied to him. *THE END* Well, that's it. Hope ya enjoyed it. Episode II won't done for while. Please send all feedback lady_guinevere79@hotmail.com
