The History of the Pacific Kingdom of the Merpeople

Medallion of the Pacific Kingdom

Merpeople were originally highly nomadic, and petty squabbles arose between different schools over land and food. Wars broke out between our amphibious cousins which cost both sides dearly, but more notably, the Merpeople were on the verge of extinction one too many times. We needed somewhere more secure. A haven, if you will, to the many nomadic schools of merpeople. The Coral Palace was established, which was a massive spire built from the many materials found at the bottom of the ocean, in what would later be called by the Humans the "Pacific Ocean." (Which, by the way, makes little to no sense, as that ocean is seldom pacific.)
Anyway, we though this was going to be just that. A haven, nothing more. We were taking notes from the Ice Witches with their Ice Palace. But soon more camps arose outside the Coral Palace, and building were built, and a city soon became quite apparent. There were hardly any schools left who didn't live near the Palace. So we named it a Kingdom. The Kingdom of the Merpeople had many markets and such, and at the very centre was the Coral Palace. There was little news of the amphibious merpeople for some time.
Generations after the initial construction of the Kingdom, a massive attack came from the amphibious merpeople. The Kingdom held off the attack well, as we were much more fortified and had an excellent defense. The amphibious merpeople were greatly incapacitated at that point, and went back to the land to lick their wounds.
The Kingdom of the Merpeople were very agitated at that point. They'd seen this thing before, and in most cases, the offense came back with better firepower, like the Sisters of Circe or the Kai Chi. The merpeople couldn't stand up to power like that.
Their longtime allies, the Water Elves, suggested an alleigance with Atlantis in the Atlantean Alliance, a part of which the Water Elves already were. The merpeople approached Atlantis and were eagerly accepted into the Alliance. Luckily, this ploy appears to have worked. Either the amphibious merpeople are extinct, or just smart enough to stay away from the Kingdom.
By the way, air-breathers, if you happen to stop by the Pacific Kingdom, as it has now been renamed, please stay in the air bubble areas of the city. We've had some very elaborate suicides for you people. And while you're in the kingdom (or before you kill yourself, whatever you're there for) try the marinated catfish, the clams, and wine from Virana's wineries.
