The Tale of the Wizard Bear

    In the cluster of islands traditionally known as the Islands of Mystery, there is a large island known as Luna Island. Luna Island is best known for its mountain range known as the Mountains of the Blue Moon. It is here that we begin our tale.
     Bear, the Gemstone Wizard, hails from the Sacred Sapphire Crystal Caves, located in these mountains. There is little known about Bear's mother, since she died in childbirth and it tabu among Bear's people to talk of the dead. His father is the Wizard King of the Crystal Dwarf tribes that live in the region. It is from his father's line that Bear received his powers, for it is a trait of the royal house to have these powers.
     Bear is a Crystal Wizard- his magic depends upon various crystals and their properties. This is why Bear will sometimes take on the colors of the opal, amethyst or other stones. His source of power is his beard. As long as his beard grows, so does his power. If he should lose it, then his abilities will lie dormant until such time as it grows back. Bear also has the ability to hear the songs that crystals sing, and to feel their power with a touch. This is why he always has crystals around him.
     Being a wizard, he often dresses in robes. Frequently, his robes will change color to reflect the crystals he connects with. When he is with the tribes of his birth, he will wear purple and gold to represent the royal house. Because he is the youngest child of the family, Bear will never be King. But, as a reminder of his family, he wears a powerdul crystal with an eye of lapis. It was a gift from his father, King Na-Tal.
