While the remake had special effects on its side, that doesn't EVER mean a good film. The original was much more eerie. I think the black and white enhanced the original by 20-fold. The remake seemed overly contrived...almost as if John Carpenter was truying TOO hard to surpass the original. And he didn't succeed. If you want to rent one of the two, rent the original. I guarantee you'll be more impressed.
