This movie has much the same feel as many vampire flicks...but with a rather interesting twist. In the first scene alone, there is a tweak of bedlam as at least 69 bloodsuckers are killed. The plot moves along as James Wood and Daniel Baldwin play vampire killers, attempting to keep themselves unbitten by the vampires, so they don't turn into vampires themselves.
The special effects are excellent (especially when the vampires get roasted in the sun). James Wood is good as always, and Daniel Baldwin acts with the acting ability of...er....well, Daniel Baldwin. This does fall one skull short of perfection in my book because for a great majority of the movie because, while it is indeed no short of rivetting, it seems like the same vampire story that has been told over and over again (I was expecting an interesting twist, much like Interview With the Vampire). However, the ending, though highly predictable, is indeed spectacular and makes up for the rest of the movie (that doesn't happen often). A must see that indeed shows that John Carpenter isn't slowing down anytime soon. Which is a great relief to know after I suffered through Memoirs of an Invisible Man.
