Halloween begins with a rather famous scene of a young, innocent Michael Myeres killing his 17 year old sister on Halloween. It then flashes to when Michael is 23 year old and locked away in an asylum. He breaks free and goes back to Haddonfield to go "trick or treating once again".
This is indeed one of John Carpenter's best horror films. The suspense honestly could not have been done better. And the soundtrack (well, the three notes the soundtrack consists of) sets the absolute perfect tone to the movie. While all the victims in the movie are under the age of 18, this is anything but your average teenage slasher film. This has an absolutely sinister tone right from the get go, and (gasp upon gasp!)...Michael actually has a PURPOSE for the killings (of course you don't find out the purpose until Halloween 2. That's when you discover that Jamie Lee Curtis is indeed Michael Meyer's sister). I would recommend watching this movie for the first time alone to get the full effect of the movie. (Somehow watching it with a bunch of friends that make fun of the stupid teenagers through the film makes the film loses its suspenseful appeal a little bit).
