Demon Knight is witty and should satisfy most Tales from he Crypt fans needs as far a feature film goes. The gore factor is very high (which we have come to expect by now), and the special effects are incredible. Billy Zane gives a monumental and hysterical performance as the Collector. It is for the most part original, (though the ending scene is indeed copied straight from the horror-spoof movie POPCORN). And the Cryptkeeper is indeed at his wittiest.
That's the good news. For those of us expecting the tight ironic horror that we've come to know and love from our weekly Tales, the movie seems a tad drawn out. I feel if this was reduced to a half hour show, it would be much more effective. Also, this film as not taken from one of the comic books, which disappointed me. However, even despite this, it is a thouroughly enjoyable film because the rapport between Zane (the Colector) and Sadler (Brayker) is diabolic. I wouldn't say its one of the top 100 horror films you must see, but its good for a Friday Night rent when many of the better horror videos are picked over.
