Captain's Quarters
a mirrorversion of this page and others are being built somewhere in the neighbourhood and i dont örsk update this one accordingly...
To produce a page about oneself... That could be a somewhat difficult enterprise. What have you
come here to learn? What are the things that makes a person who he is? Is it his secret dreams and
ambitions, or simply his apparent demeanor? Is it the appearance that makes the person? Or is it his
name? Maybe it is none of these things, and yet all of them at once? I for one believe everything you
do, everything you think and everything you love, these are the things that makes you who you are.
There is too much to a person to try and put it in words. What Im trying to say is this. All these
pages you encounter on the web describing the owners of the sites, they really tell you nothing.
Maybe some of them allow a glimpse of a person, but heres how it is. Trying to get to know a person
over the web is a difficult task at the very least. Guesses and expectations produce an image that
often is rather far away from the real person. Nevertheless youve come here, and I wont let you
down. I will try to give you some idea of who I am, if that's what you wanted to know...
When Im not sitting by a computer, I am known as Johan. Or maybe Håret. For you outlandish folk
whod like to say that, they are pronounced, according to the WhiteWolf pronounciation system:
yoo-HUN and HAW-rat. Ive been riding this MerryGoRound called Earth for the latest 18 turns
around Sol, and for the latest 13 ones Ive been living in Sandviken, Sweden. Ive got this mom and
this dad, and this brother called Martin who is two years older than me and currently studying in
Norrköping to become a teacher hopefully within the next four years. I myself graduated from High
School this spring, completing the naturarlinje, which Ive learned is untranslatable. Its got something
to do with science, anyway. The fall was going to be spent working with little more than nothing per month, but my boss trippled our salary so now Im rich! Then comes '99, and Im off to do my duty for the
country of Sweden. Ill be a fireman, since I refuse to use weapons. Next fall Im heading
for University. Apothecary in Uppsala, thats my thing.
My interests tend to circle around science fiction and the like. I have no specific explanation for this,
save the fact that fantastic science and fantasy as in intertwined folklore, myth and storytelling is
very fascinating to me. It could have something to do with the fact that I refuse to accept the world
as describable with simple reason and a number of equations. The world is a fantastic place, and no
man will ever be able to chart it. Though science is a great interest of mine and the scientific
evolution will take us places we only dream of today, there will always be things the human mind
cannot even begin to understand, and these are the things that are the most fascinating.
One of my interests are roleplaying. Rpgs are a way to escape the mundane reality and to enter a
fantastic world where you are able to feel and experience the things I mentioned above. To touch the
supernatural, the fantastic. A place where magic exists within comprehension, and where creatures
whispered about in ancient folklore really stalks the deep woods and the streets of the cities. In
addition, rpgs lets you take the roll of the hero (or monster) you never get to be in real life, and
permits you to narrate stories with yourself and your friends as the main characters. For me as an
amateur narrator, that is quite fantastic.
Hand in hand with roleplaying comes science fiction or otherwise fantastic litterature, art and
movies. This is basically the same thing, only roleplaying is much more intense. Anyway, if theres something Id like to be gifted with, it would be the ability to draw. Im a huge fantasy art fan, though my own work is really terrible. I suppose I will have to do with admiring the work of masters such as
Jonathon Bowser, Boris Vallejo and the others. When it comes to litterature, I dont read half as much
as I would like to, but try to get through as many books as possible. And as I said Im a writer myself,
though my novel is progressing very slow. Movies, however, I watch a lot. Besides Star Trek, other science fiction or otherwise fantastic movies, as I mentioned, are my cup of tea. Sitting in a dark theatre or in your own TV-couch, with popcorn and some friends at your side, and a terrific movie playing, is something I adore. And frequently practice. I am trying to build a collection with all classic science fiction and horror films around, plus all new ones I like, but havent got that far as yet. I am working on it, though, with the aid of the amazing Science Fiction Bookstore in Stockholm (Västerlånggatan). Thats my Mekka.
The things that mean the most to me are my friends. I wouldn't be if it weren't for them. Some have
followed me all the way from kindergarten, and some of those are still my best friends, but there are
of course others who mean a lot to me. Losing a friend is
the worst thing I know, and making a new one can save me in the worst of times.
Thats it for my interests. But neither my whereabouts, past, future nor interests can describe who I
really am. Nor some letters on a computer screen. Not even I can. Anyway, I hope Ive given you some idea of myself, though I suspect that the visitors on this my U.S.S Nautilus all knew me before. Whoever you may be, I would like you to drop me some lines in the Visitor's log or send me a mail, to let me know youve been here. Peace and long life.
