Staurday morning started out a bit rough on the stomach but Turlough still continued on with his Latin lessons.."Alexae Alexae Horse".Some went for the relaxation in the pool and sauna and others went to the driving range. The tee time was in the afternoon which suited most players bar the leader....
Poor Turlough had a long and lonely walk ahead of him that day
Turbo starts "Walkin the mile" on his lonesome
Things were going along rather smoothly on the first hole and then disaster struck...On the second Andrew took a 17...Little did he know that while he was mess acting with the out of bounds(thats what the white stakes were for Andy) PJ had par'd the hole and suddenly the gap was down to nothing again and all to play for.All was well again and then Andrew started his Tom foolery again by taking a 16 on the fantastic par 5 11th hole. And yet again PJ par'd with Mick taking an eight. All the time this was going on in the last group in the first group Phil was mounting some kind of charge in defence of his Green Jacket. Robert gave a glorious display of his chipping around the green and when I asked him where he learned to do this he responded with a most fantastic quote.."PJ I throw it up into the air and land it like a butterfly with sore feet".He said it was something he picked up from Phil Mickelson when he was on the USPGA tour.Mick then chipped in with a birdie 3 on the 14th to get himself back into contention while PJ went playing in the sand for a few strokes and taking a 7 on the 15th.
Coming down the last with all the pressure on him and Davy Fitzgerald watching on PJ whacked his 4 iron up the middle again. His next 2 shots had luck all over them. Twice he managed to go into the trees on the left of the 18th fairway and twice his ball kicked out.
Crowds had gatered around the 18th green to see this most exciting conclusion with it all coming down to the golfers putting skills
PJ finished with a 7 on the hole and won the title by a mere 1 stroke from former champion Mick.
