SABERHAVEN NEWS February 28, 2001 The games have experienced an influx of new power, both from the realms of Terra Dyne, and outside worlds. These new powers are making an impression, and forcing the now experienced fighters to adapt. Along with this influx comes a higher demand for contingency support. While the established groups are taking on some new members, many new competitors are left out to fend for themselves. There is an effort being made by some of these new warriors, including a new contingency being formed by Alex Dulak. So far, there has been scant response towards formation of a new contingency from the competitors, with only Aristri Blacklighter showing interest in this new group. The Temple of Fistus seems to have taken a closer interest in the battles in the arena. Several known gladiators have been seen around the temple and rumors about a temple sponsored contingency are flying about. Anashi, a half dragon contender allied with the Hydra's Heads has been summoned to the city guards for questioning about a fight outside the citywalls which claimed the lives of 12 guards. Whynn, the speaker of the Hydra's named the accusation 'lies and fantasies, no doubt invented by our opponents who are jealous of our success.' The Breathtaker strikes again, this time in elftown, attacking an apprentice mage. The young elf managed to scare off this menace, and is working now in cooperation with the lord mayor and city guards to apprehend this fiend. No other comments have been released at this time, but sources expect that a manhunt will ensue this breaking news. The Arena suffered a small blow when a group of Umber Hulks interrupted a fight between two competitors. The fighters had to put aside their match to dispose of the interference, nullifying all bets. The new activist group for the "Better Arena" is suspected, but no members have been contacted as of yet. The "Better Arena" wanted monsters and group fights to liven up the Arena, but no real acceptance for this radical idea has grown. Many competitors have not given their views on the subject, though they are the deciding class. It is expected that the "Better Arena" will soon start working to gain the support of the fighters. Capital taxes have been instituted after long deliberation. Citizen representation had earlier set out on a month long campaign, led by Lord Willhert. Though these taxes will help to make up for gambling losses, it is expected that the tax will not last for long. The mayor is looking for other options to make up for the lost revenue. A fire raged through orctown yesterday, the result of a dispute between two merchants. Three other stalls burned down, and it was feared that the fires would spread further, destroying many businesses and homes. The fires were eventually quenched by a radical storm, but the creator of this obviously magical intervention has not come forward. The merchants are still in hiding, and a reward has been offered for their capture. For more information, see Gharalld, a shop owner in eastern orctown. Even with the closure of the Flying dragon casino illegal gambling continues to increase. An absolute record has been noted during the preparations for the group fight between the Disciples of the Stormhawk and the Hydra's Heads. It is said that if the Lord Mayor had not forbidden gambling the revenues of this fight alone could have exeeded all taxes for an entire year.
