![]() The Games of Saberhaven King Nighthawk vs. Rannor
|
Few royal figures grace the Arena with their presence. Most stay
away claiming that the remotest possibility of their death could throw thier
country into turmoil. Odds makers claim that few would stand a chance
against the mightiest of champions in this Arena. Needless to say, when any king arrives to participate in the Games, it's a big deal. The King of the Winged Folk is no exception. Nighthawk claims to fear no man, and along with the leiges of the Ice Men and Snow Dwarves, comprises a small group of competing kings. The king's first fight is no grudge match. In fact, his opponent, a ranger named Rannor, is a great defender of the winged ways and nature. No animosity exists between the two, but the fight is the thing and both are set to compete. Immediately, the winged king rises into the air, bow in hand and firing away. He appears mirrored by half a dozen images, the protections afforded to him by his own mighty illusionary studies. Rannor closes the gap, taking three arrows in the arm and chest while doing so, and sets off a preistly spell on the King. The spell has no visible effect, though the disconcerting look on Nighthawk's face seems to indicate something happened. The ranger decides it time to pull his own bow and trade shots from a distance. The winged one lands three more shots, while the ranger strikes only three images. Weakened and stumbling, Rannor resots to another priestly spell. "Fall!" he commands the lord of avainkind. But the magcial protections of the king reflect the spell back on the ranger himself. As he falls to his knees, a victim of his own spell, the final arrow form Nighthawk knocks the ranger unconscious.
