![]() The Games of Saberhaven Latherin Dark vs. Chek'tu
|
Latherin Dark enters the arena, the crowd
audibly hushes due to the powerful aura the the Asimaar emanates.
His body is encased in what appears to be dark glistening flesh,
and a cloak flaps gently behind him even though there is no
wind in the arena. A bow, carved in what appears to be the
likeness of an elvish woman is in his hands, and an arrow with
a clay head is nocked and drawn. The bow is held in his right
hand, and the string is drawn back with his left hand, if you
can call it a hand. Latherin's left hand almost appears to be
a black panther's claw. At the far end of the arena, steps a giant mantis-man, a thri-kreen. His 4 arms are ready, and in 4 sheathes on his body, you can see 4 impalers waiting to be drawn. In carrying bags on his body, you can see what appears to be several chatka, waiting to be thrown. The bell to begin is sounded, and Latherin's arrow streams toward the nimble thri-kreen. Chek'tu dodges the arrow easily, and it impacts the back wall of the arena, and explodes in a small burst of fire. Chek'tu was not in the area of the fire, and remains unwounded. As if spurred on by the exposion behind him, the thri-kreen, Chek'tu speeds toward Latherin Dark. Chek'tu's insectiod legs propel him at great speed, and he pulls out 4 impalers on his way toward the asimaar. At the other end of the arena, Latherin Dark begins to slowly move around the arena edge. He is amazed at the speed in which the thri-kreen is moving toward him, and he seems to be silently cursing as if he were expecting something to happen that hasn't yet happened. Chek'tu reaches Latherin at a full tilt, and brings 4 impalers to bear at the same time. All four pierce Latherin's body, and one of them seems sink deeper than the others. The way Latherin winced, it must have caused him great pain. Chek'tu rips the impalers from Latherin's body, and then right before his eyes, Latherin fades from view. Latharin, still in shock from the ferocity of Chek'tu's attack, is taken off guard by the speed in which the next wave of attacks come. Before he can start to move away from the Thri-kreen, the creature's impalers descend again. The first sinks deep into Latharin's leg, ripping more flesh on its way back out of the asimaar. However, at the same time, the creature's upper right arm snaps around to try and catch the invisible Latharin from a different angle, but Chek'tu's arm did not agree with the angle in which it was moved, and an audible crack is heard as the appendage now hangs limply at his side. Chek'tu's third arm sweeps in a downward arc and strikes nothing. The fourth arm of the bug-man (moving slower than the other 3 arms) doesn't even get near the spot where Chek'tu thinks Latharin is, before the
