![]() The Games of Saberhaven Chek'tu vs. Latehrin Dark
|
Latherin Dark enters the Arena quickly and with much grace. He aniticipates the moves of the thri-kreen gladiator Chek'tu and immediately draws his katana to his right hand. In his left he holds forth his great clawed appendage, quite unnatural really, and like nothing the crowd has witnessed. As anticipated, the kreen starts by leaping forward and spraying sharpened wedges at the Aasimar. The first would find its mark on the aasimar's neck, but for him catching the wedge in his claw. Unexpectedly, the usually nimble kreen lands improperly from his leap and drops sevral wedges. He rolls and manages to recover but with no advantage. Latherin takes his chance to sheath his sword and pull his bow. He starts firing arrows, two sticking in the ground next to the kreen and two exploding with fire on contact. Upon the concussive blast igniting, the two arrows in the ground also ignite, knocking the kreen from his feet. Latherin lets fly the wedge he caught, hurling it full force at his rival. The wedge cuts into the kreen, but the bug-man returns two more wedges of his own which strike the Aasimar. With both hands free, the Aasimar draws forth two bolas, starts to twirl them to gain momentum, one in each hand, then lets them fly at the Thri-Kreen. He aims one at the creatures legs, and the other at the creature's upper body. The first falls short, while at the same time, two more wedges miss the Aasimar. The second bola tangles Chek'tu, forcing him to drop one of his wedges. He fires off the last wedge which finds it's way into the neck of the Aasimar. The kreen struggles to undo the bola with his extra two mandibles and moves into melee range. Latherin Dark oblidges, drawing his sword, and casts a spell upon his blade. The charging thri-kreen meets with the point of the Aasimar's blade. The kreen still manages to fight through the pain and strike five blows to the Aasimar. The Aasimar staggers back at the mortal wounds inflicted upon him. In the past he's endured far greater, but these are no less serious. From a series of gashes at his abdomen hang the Aasimar's innards: his guts are all strewn out from his belly as though it were a rope of smoked sausages. But then he hears the cawing encouragement given by Omen, his Raven, not to give up. He mutters to himself, keeping away from the kreen blades and suddenly, his guts eerilly slither like serpents and recoil back inside of him. The opening the thri-kreen inflicted suddenly seals up and vanishes all together without so much as a trace. The thri-kreen manages to poke at the Aasimar for four shots before he stumbles and drops one of his impalers in his haste. Latherin, consumed with unbridled fury, flicks four poisonous darts at the thri-kreen's eyes. His decoy is efficient, causing the kreen to drop another of his impalers in order to catch the projectiles. Suddenly, the Aasimar goes invisible. The Aasimar focuses his energy and tries to levitate the kreen off the ground, but fails to lift him. Chek'tu skurries around, keeping moving in hopes to avert the invisible Latherin. The Aasimar appears as he shoots forth a freezing bean form his right bracer, freezing the arms of the kreen together. Before his overly eager advesary can gain enough composure for a counter attack, Latherin Dark errects a globe of Darkness over his head. The Aasimar coats himself with magical dust and becomes invisble, then moves out of the darkened area. The kreen struggles and finally manages to break the ice that binds him. Latherin stabs the kreen in the back. As Chek'tu turns to counter attack, he swings and stumbles, losing his footing. Latherin takes this opportunity to further damage his foe. He executes a series of slashes at the Thri-Kreen. The kreen rises and is able to make an attack on the Aasimar, first missing then landing a blow then missing and landing a last shot. The Aasimar returns with two blows of his own ending with a shot to the insectoid's midsection. Latherin Dark slowly yet surely starts to regenerate his wounds. He then makes a feint with his Claw, scratching his opponent. Yet while its talons slash out, Latherin comes in low with a spinning series of low slashes to the Thri-Kreen's legs. As the Aasimar goes for the legs, the kreen summons energy from his impaler and heals himself to complete health. Latherin lands two shots to the kreen's legs but is unable to take them out. Latherin Dark turns his back upon his foe and takes a deep swig from a healing potion. The kreen moves to attack the Aasimar's back, but his impaler gets caught by Latherin's cloak. The cloak secretes a gooey, acidic substance over the weapon, which the kreen tries to scrape off. Latherin Dark focuses upon the Brooch on his chest and casts a Fear spell upon Chek'Tu. The kreen resists and moves to the front of the Aasimar to attack once again. The Aasimar casts towards the kreen, creating in his mind the most fearsome being imaginable. The kreen seems immediately shocks and takes a defensive stance. He calls to the judges, "Immediate disqualification for this coward who cannot fight his own fights!" Lantherin Dark protests to the judge saying, "Where is it written that magic is not to be utilized? I've won an honor bound with no such disqualifications in my fight for survival against Mallor Dunadan. I contest your call." "Magic can be used, make no mistake," explains the judge. "I believe your opponent is objecting to your 'summoning' of this 'creature', which would be against the rules. No creatures are allowed in the arena which fight for or beside a contestant." Meanwhile, the thri-kreen takes his chance to throw more throwing wedges at the Aasimar, trying to ignore the Killer. Chek'tu manages to stick one of his throwing wedges into the Aasimar's side. On his second throw, he stumbles and stuns himself prone. Latherin orders the illusionary killer to attack and watches as the thri-kreen screams in horror as his worst nightmare squashes him into unconsciousness. The crowd cheers wildly at the end of the incredible battle. The cheers continues for several minutes.
