![]() The Games of Saberhaven Jaolai vs. Guurnsh
|
The two warriors step into the arena. Guurnsh, on one side, is a massive Minotaur with what appears to be fresh blood dripping down the front of his body from his mouth. A large 2 handed sword is sheathed across his back, and a throwing axe is held ready in his hand. On the other side is a slender woman named Jaolai. She waits, slightly crouched, with a short bow in her hands and an arrow nocked and pointed at Guurnsh. The signal sounds, and before the noise stops echoing throughout the arena, Jaolai's arrow whizzes across the arena and impales in Guurnsh's chest. Guurnsh starts running across the arena. As he runs to get within range of his axe, another arrow flies at you imbedding itself deeper than the first arrow. He finally arrives at his destination ready to hurl his axe, and he watches Jaolai fumble her next shot and send an arrow flying toward a spectator only to have the arrow bounce off of the invisible wall of force protecting the crowd. Seeing how puny Jaolai is up close, Guurnsh decides to just charge to the attack and bring his two handed sword to bear. He throws his axe to the ground, pulls the two-handed sword from the sheath on his back, and charges. As he races forward, the huge sword arcing down toward the woman, Jaolai drops her bow, draws her longsword, and swings...wide. The minotaur chops down creating a large divot in the arena floor where Jaolai used to be. His follow-up swing however is much more devastating as it crushes into the woman warrior's side. Her faces grimaces in pain from the mighty blow. Anxious to get out of get out of combat with the obviously superior close range combatant, Jaolai suddenly vanishes from view and attempts to flee. The sound of the cheering crowd drowns out some of the sound of the clunky armor, but the man-bull's keen sense of smell combined with his skill at fighting without sight allows him to hack at the fleeing woman. The feel of the sword slicing through metal and flesh and the sound of a female voice biting back a scream of pain tells Guurnsh he has struck again. Guurnsh tries to pursue, but relying on only sound and scent slows the behemoth down somewhat. The noise of the crowd confuses the sound of his fleeing victim. Guurnsh chases the sound half way across the battlefield before he can't hear it anymore. It sounded more like the running armor just stopped as opposed to it outdistanced the man-bull. Expecting an ambush from the invisible Jaolai, Guurnsh advances cautiously to the spot he last heard the retreating armor clanking. He arrives at the spot, only to see and hear notrace of the woman. His keen nose however does pick up a strange combination of scents, human and gargoyle. Neither scent is strong enough to follow at this point. Moping over to the point where he threw down his axe of hurling, Guurnsh cautiously bends over and picks it up. Scanning the entire arena for any sign of movement, he finds nothing. He is now about 30 feet from the point he first shed Jaolai's blood...at least he has those good memories. Returning his two handed sword to its sheath on his back, Guurnsh cautiously walks over to the nearest wall and waits with his back to it. "COWARD!!!!!" he yells as he clutches his axe of hurling in his hand. After 2 minutes, Jaolai appears on the far side of the arena as she releases an arrow at the minotaur. The arrow causes a minor annoyance to the man-bull as his rage is refueled. A cloud of vapor spews out in front of Guurnsh as he snorts in rage and charges to within 50 feet of Jaolai. As he is running to take up position, Jaolai fires 2 more shots at him, missing with the first, but the second strikes true. As Guurnsh pulls up to the throw his axe, Jaolai lets loose another arrow. Again, the arrow bites deeply into Guurnsh's hide. The annoyance of yet another arrow fuels the Minotaur's rage as he let's his axe fly. The sound of air rushing in to fill the void where the axe used to be is almost loud enough to be heard by the cheering crowds. The axe speeds towards Jaolai. Her eyes widen and then wince in pain as the axe tears through her side and swerves back to the hand of the now rushing man-bull. Jaolai tries to squeeze off on last shot before the minotaur is in hand to hand, but the panic that sets in overwhelms her. She pulls back too far on the bowstring, and the tip of the arrow falls of the perch and pokes her in her arm. In her attempt to recover quickly, she lets loose of the bowstring and drives the arrow even further into her own arm. She drops the bow and prepares for melee as Guurnsh approaches. Desperation is etched on her forehead. She appears ready to pass out from the pain of all of her injuries. Even on the edge as she is, Jaolai moves faster than the hulk in front of her. She pulls two longswords, although the one in her left hand, she's just holding. The one in her right hand cleaves into the brute, but that does nothing to ebb the sweep of his two-handed sword as it catches the side of her body. The crush of metal and bone evokes a snort of frenzy from the Minotaur as her lifeless body hurls 10 feet to the side and lands in an unmoving lump. The amount of blood pooling around her body can only mean she is quite dead. Guurnsh runs over to the body and screams at it, shaking his two handed sword. He then spins to face the crowd, arms raised in victory.
