The Games of Saberhaven
|
The huge half-giant gladiator slave fromt he pens of Romus Todd lumbers
into the Arena, ready for combat this afternoon. In each hand he holds a
lotulis, a five foot long stick with crescent blades each end. He twirls the
blades impressivly, giving a good show at the start of the fight. At the other end, his opponent enters quickly and without pomp. Leafold Kiln gets right to it and lets loose a fireball which streaks across the sky and explodes upon contact with the twirling half-giant. harumph seems unphased by the fireball, seeming to actually absorb the magical energy. The energy releases from his body, giving the gladiator a bright glow, even in the mid-day sun. Shifting, Leafold seems to diappear, blending in with the background of the Arena. Harumph sniff, cracks his neck and jobs to the other end where he last saw Leafold. "The half breed is afraid of me? Ha!" gloats the half-giant. "As well he should be. He is weak and I am powerful. Powerful enough to squash him and chop the long blonde locks from his head to keep as a sovenir." Harumph taunts the fighter-mage, trying to get him to show himself. Suddenly from behind the giantoid comes a blast from a Cone of Cold. As Leafold releases it to blast into the back and side of the giant, he screams, "While you are brute strength, I am brain. We will see which is truly stronger, eh?" Harumph seems to absorb the blast again, taking no damage and glowing more than ever. "Looks like me still!" taunts the half-giant. Looking around, Harumph is pelted with a sling bullet from in front of him. It hits him hard in the head, forcing him to snap his neck back. A bit later, another one flies at him from in front of him, but he dodges. Then another from behind, but it misses. The another form in front, this one contacting. Angered, the half-giant says, "I'll swat you like a fly!" He swings his lotulis around where he thinks lesfold might be, but doesn't come close. The invisible Leafold slinks around until the half-giant calms a bit and stops slashing with his lotulis. When he does, Leafold moves silently up behind his opponent and slams it into the half-giant's back. Harumph immediately strikes back, slicing into the invisible man with his crescent bladed weapon. The half-giant curses but is unable to get another shot off on his opponent. form his left side he hears a scream, "Apparently, you're resistant to my spells, but are you resistant to cold steel in your back?" Harumph runs over to the voice but too late. Leafold's gone. Harumph stomps furiously around, still unable to find Leafold. He looks aroound carefully, trying to catch a glimpse of a hint that might lead him to Leafold. A couple of slow minutes pass, along with boos from the crowd who see nothing but a half-giant gladiator stalking himself. Harumph spots a couple of the sling bullets which struck him floating up and disappearing. He rushes the spot but again too late. Then a sling bullet hits the giantoid. He looks around and is hit in the side by another and then a bit later by another and another from each side, circling him. Just before the fourth one hits, Harumph activates his sword and seems to be completely healed. Figuring out the pattern, Harumph makes sure to pick up the sling bullets so they cannot be reused against him. "Still standing!" he says mockingly. A few minutes pass and the crowd grows angrier. tehy start to boo and some even throw trash into the playing field. Harumph shrugs his shoulders, not knowing what to do, kicking himself for not seeking out any magical preperations before the fight. The half-giant protects his back but he's eventually hit again from behind, this time with a small blade, he thinks. The evading opponent disappears again, but not before getting a shot from one of Harumph's lotuli. The half-giant seems weakened, but as the crowd watches (barely) he seems to summon strength from somewhere and completely heal himself. The gladiator smiles and screams to his invisible opponent, "I've got all day! What've you got?" Silence follows as the half-giant waits in ready. Another sling bullet pelts him from the left side. He moves towards the area where it came form, then is hit by another from behind him. Harumph moves back in the reverse direction, quietly listening for his opponent. He's attacked again from the rear, the steel blade slicing into his back. The half-giant swings his lutlis low, aiming for the invisible legs in front of him. Leafold barely manages to stay on his feet and limps away unseen. The fight takes a comical turn when Leafold decides to start firing the sling bullets faster. He moves randomly, constantly firing at the half-giant. Several stones pelt Harumph, then he activates another ability from his weapon and seems to be completely healed once again. "Puny rocks!" he shouts, taunting the invisible fighter again. The taunts have no effect, however, as Leafold spends the next 8 minutes pelting the giantoid with a couple dozen sling stones. Leafold may not be the best aim, but the ones that do hit pack a punch. Harumph seems to figure the invisible man will eventualy run out, and collects the stones as they either hit him or fall to his side. He holds over 30 stones in his hands and gets weaker and weaker, until finally a well placed shot to the neck knocks the half-giant down for good. A few boos can be heard among the rain of cheers, though many spectators became bored long before. Leafold walks over to the half-giant and takes his sling bullets back before the healfing priests reach the downed fighter.
