The Games of Saberhaven
Gunnar vs. Niwt

The crowd is finally ready for the match between Gunnar Overdark and Niwt. The two mighty warriors step in from either side of the Arena. An aura of flame dances around the body of Niwt. The tips of the flame are tinged with a hint of blue.
The sound to begin rings out over the Arena, and Niwt finishes the last syllables of his spell. The area under Gunnar immediately transforms into mud to suck the poor warrior down. Gunnar however, does not sink at all, in fact, he seems to just hover over the top of the clingy muck.
Suddenly, Gunnar disappears. Niwt who was preparing to cast a spell, looks puzzled, and backs up against the side of the Arena, and pulls out his shortsword and longsword. Soon after Gunnar disappeared, he reappears 15 feet above the floor of the Arena, directly over Niwt's head. Niwt merely pivots out from the wall and points his ring at the other warrior. Nothing visible happens.
Niwt, not slowed by this inconvenience, opens his mouth to cast a spell, but the only thing that comes out is primal grunting. Niwt seems to be yelling rather rude comments at Gunnar, but all that the crowd can hear is a droning "UuuugaaahhhhUuuuugaaaahhh" coming from his mouth.
Trying to escape the vocal control he is under, Niwt begins to run toward the other end of the Arena. As he does, Gunnar lowers himself down and begins running toward the center of the Arena. Niwt makes it to the other side with no change in his vocal ability. Looking over his shoulder, he sees his opponent is back on the ground, and runs back toward the center of the arena. Gunnar, expecting this, rises up to his height of 15 feet, and concentrates at the warrior-priest. As he does so, Niwt's longsword glows and shimmers in his hand. With a loud explosion, Niwt's longsword fragments in his hand sending shrapnel in all directions. Enraged, Niwt grabs some of the metal fragments on the ground and begins whipping them at the hovering psionicist.
The small pieces of metal would do little normally, but hurled by Niwt's great strength, they speed toward Gunnar. Gunnar's hands however speed out and catch the 2 biggest pieces, so the damage caused is minimal. Niwt then remembers the warhammer he carries as a material component to his spiritual hammer spell, and even though he is unable to cast the spell, he is still able to hurl the hammer at his foe. He does so with impressive effect. Gunnar manages to catch the warhammer, but he begins to move backward from the momentum of the hammer. Gunnar lowers himself enough to slow his travel down on the ground, then rise again.
Bereft of missile weapons, Niwt again grabs the largest piece of metal he sees, but before he can throw this piece, the large belt around his waist blows up. Niwt begins running away again. The now cocky Gunnar lowers himself to the ground and begins to chase the now furious Niwt. Niwt begins to slow his pace, but does not turn around. Glancing over his shoulder, he sees that Gunnar has not yet risen into the air again.
With a sudden "Pop!", Niwt disappears, and reappears immediately behind Gunnar. Gunnar, although not expecting this type of movement from his enemy, is not surprised by the action. He calmly spins to face his enemy, and pulling the net from his back, spins and tosses it at Niwt. It lands on the ground several feet away, having been dodged by the warrior-priest.
Seeing his chance, Niwt lashes out with his shortsword and draws a red line across Gunnar's chest. Gunnar leaps straight up in response to the attack, and sticks 15 feet up in the air. At this point, he releases his longsword, which drops to head height on Niwt and lashes out on its own accord. The sword misses, but forces Niwt to turn around to face this new threat.
Niwt begins to parry the assault of the longsword, but it just hovers there as Gunnar throws daggers at Niwt from above and now slightly behind. In rapid succession, daggers hurl down from above causing massive damage to the fighter on the ground. Turning around to face this new menace opens his back to the longsword. Finally being given some missile weapons, Niwt begins taking the daggers out of his body and hurling them back at the floating Gunnar. The first flies clear, but the second fails to connect with the floating warrior as again, his hand grabs the dagger out of mid-air. Quickly reversing the direction of the dagger caught, Gunnar hurls it back at the wounded Niwt, and drops the warrior to the ground, unconscious.
Gunnar floats to the ground victorious.
