![]() The Games of Saberhaven Blecke vs. Querlak
|
One of the most interesting stories of this Summer Tournament is the kobold entry, Blecke. The short furry one is an attendant of the half-dragon Prince Kroobor. The kobold has fought daringly and with great cunning to advance to the second round of the tournament. His opponent this day is no putz. Querlak is a Githyanki fighter-mage and part of Bellow's clan, The Dark Ones. Along with his spell casting abilities and his two-handed vorpal silver sword, Querlak also possess a number of mind powers. He stands before the crowd with a number of mirrored images and the faint glow of a fireshield. After the introductions, the kobold flies forward on his winged boots, cautiously rushing into combat. Querlak takes his time and summons a globe of force around the flying kobold, trying to get a quick end to the fight. The crowd cheers and all eyes turn ot he kobold, too see if he has a method to get himself out, otherwise the judges will declare Querlak winner. Before a new record is set, Blecke switches his hand axe to his left hand and unslings his pickaxe off his back. Taking aim, he pulls back to hammer at the wall, much like a miner would hammer a stone cavern. Some of the crowd erupt in laughter at the thought of the kobold breaking his way through the magical barrier with a pick. Blecke swings forward and his pick head hits the wall of force. The wall disappears. The crowd and githyanki stop laughing as the kobold continues to advance on his opponent. Querlak frowns and casts another spell at the kobold, hoping to hold him in place. Suddenly it seems as if the githyanki is being effected by his own spell, and he fights to resist it. With Querlak off balance for a minute, Blecke dispels the magic in the area around the githyanki mage. The mirror images disappear, and the githyanki slows down from what seemed quicker than normal movements. Querlak moves into a deep concentration, closing his eyes. Worried a bit, but showing no emotion, Blecke throws his hand axe at the githyanki. A few feet before it strikes, it seems to hit a bubble, an area of slowed space which slows the forward movement of the missile and eventually forces it to drop to the ground. Then Querlak disappears. Blecke crouches and looks both ways. He grabs his short sword in his left hand and his pick in his right hand and moves slightly, waiting for the emergence of his opponent. About a minute later, Querlak appears behind Blecke and strikes out with his silver sword. Querlak rolls with the blow and ducks under it. As the blade goes by, he jumps up and wings his sword and pick at the githyanki. Both blows "whoosh" though the displaced illusion of the githyanki. Now squared off, the kobold strikes first, this time landing shots form both weapons, but then is burned badly by the flames shrouding the githyanki. Blecke tries to fall back, but the walks into a blow from he vorpal sword, lucky his head didn't get taken off. Knowing he's damaged worse than his opponent, the kobold grabs a small ball from his belt and tosses it at Querlak. The ball expands into two iron bands which bind the wrists of the githyanki together. Try as he might, the fighter-mage cannot break free. Blecke doesn't smile, but instead bulls a bead from his necklace and throws it at the mage. The resulting explosion is doubled due to the fireshield surrounding him, and there's nothing he can do about it. The kobold activates a power on his ring and seems to be restored to perfect health. he steps forward, not worried about the fireshield any more, and hacks at the bound mage. Two hit later, the githyanki lies unconscious on the ground. Blecke takes he iron bands back and leaves, still expressionless.
