I stand now

You have my flowers

Six feet cannot cover

Our distance is not far

Tear drops fall
On virgin ground

My mind a blur

The rocky stone is all that marks

My hands fall to the ground
Bracing my trembling body
The thoughts that fly through
My mind are better unsaid
The grass slides freely
Between my fingers
In the soft, morning dew
A heart trembling with fear
Unable to understand
Why you left me
So many years ago
My mind a wreck
Tears sliding down my face
Over the wrinkles
Off my nose
And onto the ground
I look down at the dirt
And see a face
My eyes blink
And it is gone
The face
Of my Elizabeth
Her soft skin
Her red hair flowing
In an unfelt wind
Her brown eyes
Staring into my face
Six feet between us
Yet I still see her face
That has been so well hidden
By the ground
My hands pull clumps of grass
From the ground
I cannot stand being without her
I rip and shred the grass
Reaching for dirt
My hands stop
Elizabeth
Her face
Staring at mine again
I reach to touch it
But feel nothing
Her eyes pierce mine
My mind becomes calm
I feel her
Within me
Her red lips silently whispering
"I love you"
