Akela's Technology Traits at The Brave and the Bold

GLOWSTONES
Glowstones are alchemical amber that have the same illumination properties of the glowstone in Akela's necklace with the exception of the ability to reveal illusions. They have a constant soft glow inside of them and they can be made to produce as much light as a 100 watt light bulb. The additional light is usually activated by rubbing or lightly heating the stone (which itself produces no heat).

The creation of glowstones requires amber stones with no cracks or imbedded insects. The stone is subjected to alternating washes of mild acids and bases and then it is placed in boiling water with rose hips and sunflower seeds in it for five minutes. This mixture is then seeped though fine cloth coated with lard that the stone is then tied within and placed in the sun for 48 hours (total time in sun must be 48 hours, it doesn't matter if there is nighttime intermixed in that time). After that the stone is placed in glowing red coals for five minutes and removed. After it cools the amber has been transformed into a glowstone.

HEALING POTION
Akela knows the process for making a healing potion that is an herbal rootbeer and tastes very much like some of the best kinds of rootbeer available. It contains sarsaparilla, birch bark, dandelion root, burdock root, echinacea root, woundwort, ginger, yellow dock root, licorice and cinnamon. It takes sixty hours of slow, low temperature cooking to prepare the basic concoction which is then seeped though a tightly woven cloth and then chilled before use. On Skartaris the chilling is maintained by magically prepared jars but a refrigerator will do fine as well.

The recipient of of this potion will enjoy double their normal healing rate and disease resistance for twenty-four hours after drinking the potion and, as there are no immediate negative affects after that, they can continue drinking it after healing. Drinking a second potion during the twenty-four hours will cancel the effects of the first, however, and since it can prove to be psychologically addictive (like beer itself) it should not be used in excess.

MAGICAL AMULET
Jennifer Morgan gave Akela a small disk, two inches in diameter, which bears the black bird symbol she and her father share on a sky blue field. By holding it firmly in one's hand and saying "Jennifer Morgan, I call to you." it will initiate a magical contact with Jennifer. Jennifer can deny contact if she wishes but rarely does for Akela.

The effect is to open a circular 'window' with a diameter of eighteen inches that can only be seen on the amulet's end by those in direct contact with the amulet or in indirect contact though a chain of living people which terminates with direct contact with the amulet. The window allows the viewers on either end (which on Jennifer's end can be anyone she chooses near her) to see and speak with each other and transmission of magical energies by either party as well (although Jennifer can automatically block this from coming though at her end).

MAGICAL ARMOR
Akela's has a suit of leather armor consisting of a studded leather tunic and a pair of thigh-high boots with metal knee plates. It has been enchanted by Jennifer Morgan of Skartaris to enable it to turn most blades and projectiles (including bullets) providing Akela with excellent protection. Additionally, it is capable of protecting her with equal alacrity against energy attacks (magical or not).

It is tied to her magical ring and can be stored by it like any other piece of clothing (see Magic Ring Tech trait).

MAGICAL NECKLACE
Akela wears an enchanted beaded necklace that bears an alchemically altered amber stone called a glowstone and an ensorcelled black opal. The necklace itself has been enchanted so that it cannot break unless not breaking would lead to injury of the wearer, in which case its clasp opens allowing it to fall way without harm.

The glowstone, which always seems to have a faint light within it, can be given a mental command that causes it to glow softly, sending out a difuse golden light capable of lighting an area to the same range as a 100 watt light bulb, although with slightly less intense light. In addition to causing illumination, the stone has been enchanted so that this light will make any illusion become translucent, revealing them for the falsehoods they are. This affects all magical illusions and affects physical illusions such as holograms and the like.

The opal acts like a translator. It already knows English and Spanish and can learn a total of four languages in addition to Skartarian. These four language slots can be overwritten by a new language at any time if Akela wishes to, but other wise the languages are stored permanently. (It must have already successfully translated a language at least five times before it can store a language this way.) It is also capable of translating other languages on the fly, but such translations depend on the complexity of the language and are sometimes humorously erroneous if not totally wrong. The translations are magical, making people hear her in the language they are speaking in and her hear their words in Skartarian.

MAGICAL RING
Akela possesses a ring with the minor magical ability of being able to store clothes within it. The clothes (which Akela must be wearing turn into a fog that is the same color as the clothing that then flows to the ring and disappears. Clothing is returned from the ring the same way, as fog that forms around the ring, flows across Akela's body and then resumes its normal form. No more than two outfits can be fogged at one time (one going into storage and one coming out) and the ring can only store clothing (the one exception is her armor which was made specifically to be able to be stored; see Magical Armor Tech trait).

The ring was created for her by Jennifer Morgan.

ORICHALCHUM
Akela knows the process of making the alchemical alloy orichalcum. It is an alloy of copper, gold, silver, and several rare earths. It is made by melting the metals together with a strong acid added into the mix. For every pound of the four materials used an ounce of orichalum is produced.

Orichalchum is as light as aluminum but as strong as titanium and, when tooled, it can hold an edge as well as chipped obsidian. Additionally, it is easily enchanted and is favored by sorcerers for that reason. It is a pale golden color and has a silvery sheen.

RUNE SWORDS
Akela possesses twinned short swords, with twenty-inch long blades, slightly curved on the edged side and quite broad in the middle, tapering to a point at one end and to a narrow attachment at the hilt end; one side of the blade of each sword is etched with runes of power while the other is smooth and reflective.

The swords are capable of cutting though stone like butter but will not harm anyone its wielder chooses (this is useful both for not hurting allies in close quarters and for cutting away an opponent's armor without harming them). When not in use, the swords are stored in an extradimensional pocket that co-exists with their attuned master (Akela) and will return to her hands at will. The swords are totally invulnerable to harm and can be used to parry energy attacks (normal or magical in origin) as well as physical ones.

THROWING CROSSES
Akela has a number of palm sized, throwing blades which she wears over her armor on a bandoleer hung from her left shoulder. She has twelve of them at this time, but is capable of making more should the need arise. They are made out of the alchemal metal orichalum (see Orichalchum Tech trait) and are very light, tough and hold a very keen edge, capable of cutting though thick leather as if butter. In all other ways they behave like normal shuriken which they resemble.
