MY TAKE ON THE OSCARS:
First of all, I knew that damn boat movie would win BP. I'm appalled but not surprised to see Hollywood rewarding spectacle. Notice it didn't win a single award for acting. And James Cameron is a pompous ass. King of his own world, sure.
LA Confidential: Robbed. Clearly. But that's okay; the critics know it was the best movie of the year. And the excellent screenplay won. And Kim Basinger! Not only did she look stunning (loved that pale green dress) but she was genuinely stunned. I loved her in LA and was so glad she beat Gloria Stuart. No one should win an Oscar for being old.
Jack Nicholson: Won for the third time for starring as himself in a movie. That's a stretch. Peter Fonda. Robert Duvall. Those were the performances that should have warred.
Ben and Matt: Yeah, I'm over the hype too. Yeah, I thought GWH had problems. But I like Ben, and I liked how he took control of the acceptance speech. I thought they were cute bringing their moms and I loved how everyone kept making references to their age.
Robin Williams: Finally. He's been nominated for better perfomances, but I thought he was the best part of GWH. I've loved him for years. Bravo.
Madonna: Couldn't she have brought her personality with her? Loved the necklace, though.
Best moment: Stanley Donen accepting the lifetime achievement award. Could the man have been cuter? Singing, tapping, telling funny stories. And he directed my favorite movie of all time, "Singin' In the Rain". I was grinning like a fool.
