Force in the Balance
A Star Wars (tm) Campaign

Part One

This campaign is set several years before the films and even just before the Empire was formed, however since no material exists which states when the Empire was formed (or even how) in my campaign I have tried to keep as faithful as possible to all existing material which made hints to the past (of course when the new films come out they will provide a sound basis as to what happens and when) I have avoided the clone wars as a reason for the disappearance of most of the jedi's so as not to do it an injustice (although I was tempted).

The party consisting of: Jarad Maine; Ged Zinger; Galen C’arn; John Dorkin; Simeon Arthurdent and Elana Pakan, have been selected for reasons only known to the Jedi Masters on board the Municor(a roving Jedi Academy), to go on a dangerous information retrieval mission. A dangerous mission caused mainly by their youth and fledgling Jedi powers.
The party was dumped rather abruptly on Najiba, with no form of transport except, and little else apart from a side arm and a bursary of 1,000 credits each, which in some cases was a short straw from the 10,000 credits paid for full graduation costs to the Jedi Guild Mahler (others getting sponsorship or scholarship). However they quickly proved themselves able to the task by realising that Najiba was a dead end hole and organising transport out-system: Bound for Bespin.
Upon arrival at Bespin they quickly got in the scene after perhaps a few false starts. They retrieved some initial information and managed to send it on back to the Guild. They also enquired about buying a ship and finding lodgings, and began thinking of ways of earning money, and realising that Gambling was the way.

After a close run with one of the gambling bosses Jarad realised that he wasn’t cut out for deep end gambling. Galen however had landed straight on his feet and had some of the best luck in his gambling career. The others noticed that they were being followed, and followed clumsily. They then decided to retire for the night and opted for the Airy lodge, at 50 credits a night, it wasn’t cheap by galactic standards but was cheap for Cloud City the up and coming city on Bespin.
The following day they headed straight for the Market to try and purchase a ship, which was difficult in view of the fact that they had only just over 4,000 credits between them. However luck (and perhaps the GM) was with them again, and they were able to pushes a near space worthy vessel worth 10,000 credits in exchange for cash and some labour on some other ships which were just as badly in need of repair as the one they bought, which may well need replacing as soon as their finances hold out.

After checking that their vessel was as good as it could be got, the party decided they’d had enough of Bespin, and Cloud City’s Port Town in particular. They left, and took their rust bucket with them, not that it looked like a rust bucket, it looked rather tarted up, but it was clearly (from any kind of close inspection) not a vessel to assume spaceworthyness with.
Having successfully entered hyperspace, the crew of the as yet unnamed ship amused themselves with various oddities. Upon exiting hyperspace, they were met with somewhat unaccustomed formality, that of declaring their identity, which was a little difficult since their ship had no name, but once the transponder switch had been located, they were blessed with of all small mercies, a valid transponder code, (F99720, for reference) and what’s more one which didn’t ring off all sorts of warning bells of the authorities at all. With that over with they landed on Corellia, without so much as a bump. It was however a little different upon arrival at Coronet, the capital: they discovered that not only were the parking fees steeper than they had ready cash for, but that it was necessary for the port authority to offer a protection service to guarantee that their ship would be there when they returned. They made their way outside and tried to decide on how to get into the centre some 5 kilometers away. Elana feeling particularly fresh and active decided to run in, without telling the others, who decided to take the monorail, however just before he entered the train, Jarad noticed that his blaster was missing, and consequently didn’t join his friends who were already on board, the monorail left without him. Elana quickly ran into trouble by taking a wrong turn, she came across a band of unsavouries, she tried to run through, but failed, and was set upon, she did however manage to escape by luck and determination more than any real application of skill.
Jarad meanwhile was trying his best to recover his blaster pistol which he discovered was illegal anyway since he didn’t have a licence for it, something that both the port authorities and Galen had failed to mention.
Elana once free of the unpleasant characters, applied a little commonsence and decided that she might need a little protection, and aimed herself in the direction of her friends through use of the force. Once together they decided to search for ships for sale, however it wasn’t long before this seach was diverted in to another avenue, for Elana had noticed that they were being followed, and followed by the same feline type, that had been clumsy before, and which certainly wasn’t being clumsy now, this point was painfully obvious to the group when they failed to spot her after Elana took her eyes off her. After realising that they had lost her they decided to look for employment in one of the local bars, it was here that they realised that their tail had not left them yet, as Galen now spotted her and once notified many more of the group saw too. They decided to intercept her, and did so once she realised they were on to her she tried to blend in by talking to a stranger but that too failed. Once she realised that there was no easy escape (as in without causing bloodshed) she resigned to talk to them. She told them that her master was interested in them, that she was a jedi and that she would have to return to her master to notify him of her failure, but that she would contact them in a weeks time, once she left they realised that it was late they all decided to head back to the ship to sleep.

The next morning they all went back to the monorail to go into town, when Galen felt his gun being tugged, he caught a small hand belonging to a young girl of about 11 years. Jarad instantly leapt on the girl assuming her to be the same one who had stolen his weapon the day before. He then interrogated the frightened child until she told him of a friend who had done the deed. Jarad then marched the girl off to him which happened to be at school, and then proceeded to interoggate this boy until he found out that the gun was swapped with some cards, finding this boy who had swapped the cards for the gun he found out that the gun had been seized by the childs Father, as was at home, then marching this third child home to his mother, he barged in to her house and demanded his weapon back. The woman was willing to return the gun for a small fee, Jarad would have none of it, when the woman refused to let him open the locked cupboard storing the gun, he pulled out his lightsaber and sliced the lock open. The woman then called for the police, who arrived most speedily, they decided that the woman was justified and proceeded to arrest Jarad for Criminal Damage, Jarad then proceeded to resist arrest without the presence of a Jedi, since the police would not recognised Jarad’s friends as Jedi, the resident Jedi was called, he also arrived before expected time, and quickly resolved the situation, Jarad was indeed to be arrested and he would rule on the gun later. Then Simeon stepped in and presented the Rite of Passage, given to them by the academy, to the Jedi. Once he had read this the Jedi saw everything in a different light, and merely scolded Jarad. Elana seeing an oppurtunity asked the Jedi for employ, and received an appointment for the afternoon.
