Black Knight

Upon the plains of Valhalla a fearsome battle did unfold.
Every warrior who fought within already possessing a record of great deeds
well worthy of many stories, long before this battle every began.

At the start of the day we find our Stephus and Danger taking
a moment to relax in the pub. "I know", says Danger, "Let us defeat the
Black Knight", and both agreed it was a task worthy of their skills.

Soon within the knight's chambers in the Temple of Hecate the
Black Knight looked Danger over and agreed. "I shall give you 4 minutes to
meet me in honorable battle within the clearing, south of the great plains"

Four minutes later, Danger, Stephus, Kaos, and Shridhar met
him within the clearing. The Black Knight rode in astride his
mighty warhorse and surveyed those awaiting him. He frowned to see so many assembled here.

The Black Knight did not shy from so many foes, instead he promised
each their death and set out to insure it. The battle was awesome
and raged for some time.

It was not long thereafter that Danger realized his mistake.
He had thought his skills greater, when in fact the Black Knight was the
mightier warrior. Danger's body was taken from the field.

Orpheus arrived to lend his strength, yet this merely
prompted the Black Knight to fight harder. Orpheus quickly withdrew
and did not return thereafter.

The battle continued and the group found themselves hard-
pressed to match the Black Knight's sheer strength and ferocity.
They needed time to regroup. Stephus observed this and chose to act.

Stephus gripped his fork, Adversary, and fought harder
still. The Black Knight recognized his power and turned his full attentions
upon him. As he did so Stephus struck forth, with the knight in pursuit.

Stephus did manage to make the distance he needed, yet while
doing so was unable to defend himself. Only then did Stephus relucatantly
release his grip upon his weapon and crumpled to the ground.

Much sorrow was heard as the land bemoaned such a great
loss. During this the comrades remained unable to coordinate and the Black
Knight tore through them upon his steed, catching Kaos alone to battle.

Kaos soon broke and ran for Ossary. He dashed through the
mead hall, fearing for his life. The Black Knight bore down upon him,
intending to end his struggle. Kaos was doomed, yet he did not die.

For within the hall stood another great warrior. One who had not chosen
this fight, nor had any intention of joining. Yet seeing Kaos chased by
this mighty foe astride a steed of jet black, Maddog knew the time had come.

He stood before the Black Knight and refused his passage.
The battle was tremendous and all watched in awe. Yet it was not Maddog who
triumphed this day, and his corpse added to the Black Knight's list of accomplishments.

Saddened by this loss of life, Witherspore called out: "Fear not
comrades, I shall deal with this fellow." After a moment of battle,
however, Witherspore thought better of it, and fled the land, not to return.

At this time, Natural, a mighty giant of great fame and
prowess, decided that soon he too would be sought by the knight. He choose
to seek the Black Knight now, rather than await the slaying of others for the knight to seek him.

The battlefield was clear, with the others in retreat.
Natural strode forth alone, to meet his defeat. With so many fallen, Kaos
took a moment to rest. He sat down upon the ground and panted for breath.

Only Shridhar remained to make the attempt. He considered
the Black Knight as they observed each other. Each one with their body torn
and bruised, weakened greatly by the day's struggle, yet refusing to give up.

They clashed and strove, each attempting to succeed. Finally,
Shridhar was forced to give ground and retreated. The Black Knight thundered
after and came across Kaos, whose eyes could only widen in surprise, as he too died.

Shridhar, aghast at Kaos' death charged in to avenge him,
but found that his body too, gave in to mortal limitations, and fell to the
ground, dead before the Black Knight's superior might.

The Black Knight surveyed the field, and saw none living. Yet
he knew not how to give up the strife, and prepared to seek forth and find
others to perish. Those watching feared for their lives, and sought aid.

Aahz, the wizard, arrived following their pleas, and spoke
with the knight for what seemed an eternity. Finally, he agreed to Aahz's
logic, that the battle should cease, and returned, honor satisfied, to rest.

So let me offer this prayer for all who did struggle. Many
an awesome warrior fell and for them we mourn. I also give prayer to the
Black Knight, for despite his amazing struggles, he shall be called again.
