Poems of Love and Victory

Beauty

It came without warning, this love that we share;
Through glad times and torment, it blossomed inside.
In the dark of night like an oft-whispered prayer,
I'd find her face there, the black void she denied.
Til Asc'in'a rolled in, and stole her away.

There then came the day, like an ill-crested wave,
A summons on trumpet, for heroes who'd fight
'Cross the watery depths, a kingdom to save.
So my love, and her sword, strode out 'gainst the night.
And Asc'in'a rolled in, and stole her away.

I stood on the docks, til the sun set that day,
The spray in my eyes forced me home for a time.
I came back each dawn, and for her I did pray,
But now I stay home, and weep over the crime.
For Asc'in'a had won; my love died away.
