LEGILDUR
Legildur pauses in the removal of his armour as Timor and Lord Doth enter. Straightening from his task, Legildur approaches Lord Doth and offers his arm in greeting, bowing slightly as he shakes the Lord's arm.
"Greetings Lord Doth, a pity we couldn't have met again under more favourable conditions," Legildur says as he greets Doth.
"As you can see, our Band has changed somewhat since we last met. I assume that good Timor has told all that is relevant. But come, you are suited for war - so the undead threat is very real. What can you tell us?" he adds, stepping back to give him more room to address the Band.
DM
Doth grins.
"Please Legildur rest. I see you sport a nasty wound there. Yes the undead threat is quite real. I am unsure of where they come from. Rumours are rampant that they come from the Red wizard... who has launched attacks against us in the past. Others Said that they come from the Ruins of Bone Hill. And yet others say they come all the way from the Swamp of Ill Dreams."
He pauses for a few seconds.
"What I can tell you is that they are more interested in disrupting communications and trade between the Keeps in the area and other lands. They have launched raids against us but they have been weak. Either to keep us busy or perhaps to look for weak points. Which I am not certain."
KINSON
Kinson approaches a step behind Legildur.
"Greetings milord."
He bows formally.
"I am Kinson. At your service."
But he does not attempt to hold the conversation, letting Legildur do the talking for the party.
DM
Doth glances at Kinson.
"Well met knight."
LEGILDUR
"Sounds to me as though they are trying to build a larger force," Legildur says.
"My guess is the attacks are aimed at preventing the forces of the surrounding areas from joining together and launching a decisive strike against the source of the trouble. Maybe we can help there!" Legildur adds with a savage grin.
"But not for a day or so until we are recovered fully. Our recent adventures have taken quite a toll," he adds a little wistfully. "I remember that last time we were here some mention was made of Bone Hill. Knowing that any Necromancer would require raw stock - where would they get it? I recall that Bone Hill had been the site of a large battle long ago (and some castle ruins). Assuming the casualties were buried nearby, then that would be a good source of material for such ugly work. Also, if I understand correctly, the nearby Pines are rumoured to be the burial grounds of an ancient king. Another potential source?" Legildur continues.
"In the meantime, you can include us in the defences until we are rested and have planned adequately for a counter strike."
OOC:
Anything else Legildur knows about the battle Charles? Using his Ancient (Military) History non-weapon proficiency?
DM
Doth laughs.
"Just knowing you are around to help is all the assistance I need in the defense of Hasbis."
OOC:
You don't remember a lot... You recall that it involved a powerful mage who owned the castle and a good size army that attacked it. The castle was overrun and razed as far as you can remember.
SAGGAR
"Maybe we should but offer our services to the mage or lord of this area?"
VORIAX
Voriax bows to Lord Doth, saying:
"Good meeting Lord Doth. Will Lord Nebious be joining us on this evening or shall I look forward to seeing him again tomorrow? I have a few more questions regarding magic as he might imagine. (sheepish grin)"
DM
Doth shakes his hand.
"He is keeping an eye on things at the tower for tonight."
KADDAR
Kaddar studied as much as he could before Lord Doth arrived, at first he just kept on his book, but as soon as he hears Legildur former introducing and etiquette, he puts his book back into the sack (the backpack) and looks at him, then when he finds a proper opportunity he introduces himself.
"Greetings Lord Doth, my name is Kaddar and I just joined this band as they were kind enough of rescuing me from evil being, I would like to met you at better circumstances, please forgive this raggedy clothes of mine which are not proper to present myself upon you, I am at your service my lord. I was just looking for an elven mage named Rastar Goldgleam near Asga when captured and ended joining the Silver Blade Band."
He brings up the name of Goldgleam just hopping there could be a small chance Lord Doth finds the name familiar. He pauses for a second and then continues.
"My Lord, Have anyone seen this restless souls and escaped from them? Are there any rumours about how they look like? It would be useful to have a description on them so we can know more about their nature as I have heard there are a number of different creatures among undeads and determining their nature could help us to spot their weakness on combat and to locate their source as I believe this could be a vital task to be performed, locating were they came from."
DM
Doth smiles at all of Kaddar's questions.
"Yes we have fought them. They are for the most part skeletons and zombies. However, there are rumour's of darker spirits but I have seen none. As for this Rastar... Are you sure you do not mean Rastan Goldgleam the mage from the Crystal tower? I have heard of him. He lives in a glass tower they say in the woods of Asga."
LEGILDUR
Legildur silently thanks Laskanthar for Doth's words on the lack of darker spirits in the hordes' midst.
"Skeletons and zombies can still make an impression if there are enough of them," Legildur says.
"But nothing we shouldn't be able to deal with."
KADDAR
"Skeletons and Zombies..." he repeats, then continues
"... Rastan Goldgleam, I think we are talking about the very same person, I shall pay him a visit in the future".
After another while, providing that Kaddar has never seen a Zombie he asks Legildur.
"How does this Zombie things look like Legildur? Are they like skeletons? There is any weakness among them that we might use in our favour?"
He awaits Legildur answer and then talks to Sir Doth again.
"Sir Doth, I do not want to upset you with so many questions regarding latest events, but this undeads Have been noticed "all" around the city or there is maybe some specific location or direction in which they have been seen more often?"
DM
Doth nods.
"Ask as many questions as you want Kaddar." He sits next to him. Jas rushes over with some mead for the lord. Doth takes a swallow of the drink.
"Jas that is excellent." Then he turns back to Kaddar.
"They are mostly to the East and North but they have attacked patrols and merchants in every direction."
LEGILDUR
"Best ask Kinson about that. I've only seen their destroyed remains - after Kinson had finished with them," says Legildur figuring that they are just animated corpses and can't be too difficult to handle.
KINSON
Hearing his name Kinson looks up from inspecting his new weapon, he shakes his head.
"Alof, Biladoc, Saggar and myself have encountered skeletons of a type before; they guarded a small bridge in the underground evil temple in Pensula. But I think they were much different than what has been described to me as an "ordinary" skeleton -- if such a thing can ever be ordinary. They were very powerful creatures and most difficult to kill, ordinary non-magical weapons did not affect them, which is different than has been described to me in the past. If I remember correctly they each carried a scythe, which Saggar deduced was the centre of their power, he struck their weapon with his mighty Axe and smote the evil creatures." He pauses as if in thought.
"Also, Saggar, Biladoc, and myself have encountered either a spectre or a ghast, which we are not sure, but again only magical weapons had any affect on the vile creature, except for holy water which dealt it a serious hurt. We have prevailed against the undead so far, but I will not underestimate them again."
LEGILDUR
Legildur suddenly straightens as he remembers something but patiently waits for Kinson to finish.
"My brain must be addled. Yes, Voriax and I have dealt with both skeletons and zombies before in Fennis Morte. Apart from their status as undead, they were unremarkable. The zombies were relatively slow in the attack. However, the skeletons were well armoured and armed. Our priest at the time, Connor, seemed to have good success using a mace against the skeletons. Our swords could find no real purchase on their bones, but were still effective in the end.
Farewell till the morning, Doth." says Legildur as the Lord leaves the Inn.
"We will be here in the morning."
The party then departs for the Church for healing.
TIMOR
Timor listens intently to the many places that are said as possible sources - he has a great interest in this after all since it involves the undead (who are ultimately servants and minions of Balron - the antithesis of Elanna)
"It would seem there are several things to look into - I believe I heard someone say as I was walking that 'we need answers that we don't have in order to make plans' - so true... but of course that lends itself to meaning we should go and find these answers. I spoke with the clergy at the Temple. They only have speculations as to the source; they even tried various means of divination to no avail - then again, the spells of the divine have never been the Healing Hand's forte."
Timor thinks about it some more and then adds:
"Lord Doth, I will escort you back to your tower when you are ready to go. For now, please speak with Legildur and the others...I have yet to feed myself after a whole day..."
Timor excuses himself to a table near the bar and orders something to eat. He hadn't eaten yet, and now is as good a time as any. After he places his order, he calls out to the others.
"Oh, my friends, do not go to sleep yet - when you are done speaking with the Lord, be sure to visit the temple. I have made arrangements to tend our wounds, you only need enter and mention my name."
With that said, Timor will await his food. He knows its late and Jas is probably closing the kitchen for the night, but Timor is willing to take some simple helpings of bread, fruits and soup as they don't require all the work and dishes. ;)
(Timor is going to eat now and let the others speak with Doth. When they are done talking, Timor wants to escort Doth back to the tower so that he can speak with him personally. And after the tower, Timor will go to the temple and see if he can make arrangements to stay there the night)
LEGILDUR
Legildur's eyebrows raise slightly when Timor mentions the Temple and the available healing.
"That, we will accept gladly," he says, thinking that at least part of their problems will soon be solved.
DM
Timor finds plenty of food spread out on the table already. There are ribs, pork, roasted fowl, roasted spiced potatoes, cheese, bread etc.
VORIAX
"Yes, thank you Timor. I think that will help refresh all of us for whatever the days bring. I, for one, will gladly accept your offer as soon as we are done in the inn."
LEGILDUR
Legildur sits back to digest all that they have heard and to think a whiles on their next actions while he watches Timor wolf down his meal. Looking around to his companions and friends, Legildur notes that it is more than just bodies that need healing. Many, of them have damaged equipment and armour that requires servicing, weapons that need sharpening and clothes requiring patching and stitching ('let alone washing' he thinks to himself as his nose catches the odours of those around him). As his eyes pass over Kinson, the elf's eyes narrow slightly.
"Here, Kinson. Show me your blade if I may?"
If Kinson agrees, Legildur quickly examines the long sword.
"I am ashamed for not noting it before. It is obviously sturdy and of serviceable quality, but one such as you deserves better than this simple weapon. Besides, anything that helps you overcome your foes is a good thing for the Band," he adds with a smile.
Regardless of Kinson's actions, Legildur continues with the following:
"Along the way, I have collected two swords that you may use if you wish. The first," Legildur says as picks up a long-sword of obviously high-quality temporarily discarded amongst his equipment and passes it to Kinson, "belonged to the elven messenger slain in the Maze by the orcs. I am unsure of its precise qualities until it has been swung in battle or examined by a mage. I cannot tell if it is simply a well crafted weapon or one that has received enchantment.
This second sword, however," adds Legildur as he watches Kinson examine the first blade and he fetches an ornately engraved scabbard with an elegant hilt protruding from it.
Withdrawing the blade, the Band can see a broad sword with an extremely keen edge and ancient Fae-no-mor writings along its length. Passing it hilt first across to Kinson, Legildur continues.
"This I also recovered from Wrent in the Red Mage's tower, but it was the weapon I placed in his hands back in the Library. The Band originally located it in a cave on the Sunless Sea. It is highly enchanted with some exceptional properties - particularly effective against reptiles, so Nebious says. But few people use a broadsword nowadays," Legildur adds with a glance towards Doth's weapons.
"I'd be pleased for you to use either weapon on the Band's behalf," Legildur says to the Knight.
DM
Sleyvien seeing the sword smiles.
"That is an ancient sword indeed. Wielded against the serpentine empire when the human race was just emerging."
Selander sits next to Legildur and smiles as she watches and listens carefully to what he is saying. Jas's daughter comes closer.
"Really, sir Sleyvien... What do you know of that time?"
Sleyvien smiles and points to Voriax.
"I believe he knows a little about it as well. Don't you good Voriax?"
KINSON
Taking the long sword in his hand, Kinson inspects the blade briefly, then tests it's balance.
"As fine a blade as I've ever seen," but after a few moments he hands the blade back to Legildur.
He appears about ready to say something else when Legildur shows him the ancient broadsword.
"Ohhh my..." he says in a long drawn out breath.
He accepts the blade from Legildur, holding it gingerly, almost reverently. He steps away from the crowd of people and performs a few practice manoeuvres, testing how the sword feels in his hand.
"An amazing weapon, I can hear it sing as it slices through the air!"
He lowers the sword and approaches Legildur.
"I would be honoured to wield this blade for the Band, although I do not yet know how to use this type of weapon to it's fullest, I look upon it as a challenge to learn such a fine blade."
He glances at Lord Doth.
"I see you have similar blade, if there were more time I would surely seek your instruction in it's use. But I believe I will still be able to perform mighty deeds with it already! Legildur my friend, I do not know how to thank you. I think of all my possessions, and all of there worth combined does not equal a blade such as this. Is there anything I can offer you other than my oath to use the blade for the good of all of us? Name it and it's yours!"
LEGILDUR
Legildur smiles at the bubbling excitement barely constrained within Kinson as the knight tests the broad sword.
"Yes", he thinks to himself "Magical weapons are due great reverence. The enchantment of fine steel creates an object of true beauty and is a shining example of what can be achieved by great artisans. Their ability to improve an individual's odds of survival in battle seem almost secondary to the way they enhance one's style and ability in the art of fine swordplay."
Seeing Kinson's joy and appreciation for the ancient weapon vindicates to Legildur his decision to bequeath it to the knight. A weapon such as that should only be wielded by one who appreciates its worth.
"Nay Kinson," says Legildur as he casually waves his hand slightly as if brushing away a fly (or is that a stirge Charles?).
"The weapon is given to you in good faith. Only Voriax and I remain from the original members of the Band who recovered the weapon. As you can see," he says nodding towards Voriax, "He can't use one, and I use one of the weapons favoured by my people," the elf adds as he places his right hand on the hilt of Vinguard (a long sword).
"I require no oath. I know you will stand by my side as we face evil - that is all I call for."
TIMOR
With the late-night commotion, Timor barely hears the words escape the fair bard's lips.
"What was that Ianthe, did you say something?"
DM
She looks up as if startled.
"What?"
TIMOR
"Oh - sorry, thought I heard you say something..."
Timor goes back to the meal before him not even giving it a second thought.
DM
Ianthe stares at Timor trying to figure the priest out. She had not spent much time with Timor and did not understand as well as she understood Voriax and Legildur. She turns back to the conversation with Doth and the others. Selander seems to be paying attention as she eats. As the swords are offered to Kinson she smiles at Legildur and waits. Doth smiles at hearing Kinson's words.
"If there is time I would be glad to show you a trick or two with a broad sword. Remember that it is heavier than a Long sword. And can be used as a blunt instrument."
KINSON
"Of course, with only a single edged blade, using the opposite side opens up whole new realms of possibility..."
Kinson smiles broadly (one might almost say he has a twinkle in his eye).
:-)
DM
Doth shakes his head.
"Bot sides of the blade are sharpened, sir. It is the flat of the blade that can be used as a blunt instrument."
BILADOC
Taking a pause in my meal, while waiting for another plate of pork with potatoes and onions, I say to Alof:
"Sure, I can show you how to tumble away from trouble. But lets do it tomorrow, ok? After this meal I think I can only roll..."
I sit back and watch the others, paying attention to their conversation. After a while, I stand up and approach Lord Doth. I bow slightly and say, with a smile to Legildur:
"Since my friend Legildur seems to have forgotten his usual manners after hearing about another possible fight, allow me to introduce myself and the rest of my companions whom your lordship hasn't met yet. I'm Biladoc Lightfoot, slayer of ghasts and destroyer of spectres. My friends over there are Alof Razmor, notorious troll evader and that suspicious bearded character is Saggar, eximious healer and orc fighter. That quiet lady is... well, we don't know her real name but we call her Slender and she doesn't seem to mind it. If you need any help against those creatures that lurk in the night, you can count me in. I'm always ready for a good fight."
After Legildur offers Kinson the swords, I see Selander watching him and whisper to Legildur:
"Huh... I think Slender may be interested in the other sword. Or maybe just in you, oh mighty leader..."
I escape before Legildur can catch me and approach Lord Doth, showing him the spear I took from the maze:
"We've found this spear in the maze we were trapped in. Do you think it has any special properties?"
I then return to my table to finish my meal. As for the watch arrangements, I'll agree with any that is decided.
DM
Doth smiles at the little halfling.
"You and Alof have travelled a long ways to reach the Baronies."
He glances at the spear.
"It does look unusual but I can not tell. I am a warrior not a mage."
He grins at the halfling. He spreads his arms open.
"Welcome to all of you members of the Silver Blade."
Selander blushes at Biladoc's comments and steals some pork off his new plate and just grins at him.
LEGILDUR
Legildur keeps his eyes slightly downcast in guilt as he realises that he has forgotten to introduce the remaining members of the Band, so distracted he was in the news delivered by Sleyvien and Ianthe. He simply hurrumphs at the halfling's comment about Selander, but keeps it in mind - particularly with Ianthe nearby. Biladoc passing the spear to Doth reminds the elf about other items the party carries - the ceremonial dagger, numerous potions, a short sword, some less savoury items, a gold ring, a spoon, the sceptic card etc. Though further examination of these should wait until the morning. Legildur is just about to mention to Doth that he will pay the Band's taxes in the morning when he remembers that the 10 per cent tax is only due on monies found in Doth's and Nebious' realm - of which the Maze is not part of. Anyway, he thinks to himself, the monetary takings were pretty slim for 3 years of adventuring, he'd be embarrassed to even bring attention to the issue. Once Doth finishes with the spear, Legildur addresses Doth once more.
"Well my Lord, I assume that since you are suited that you expect trouble any moment. When is an attack likely and where would you like us situated if it occurs?"
Following Doth's reply, Legildur continues.
"Given the hour, I think it best we get what sleep we can before the morrow and make use of Timor's efforts to secure the Church's offer of healing before we retire. Thank you Doth for coming to see us at this late hour."
If Doth then retires, Legildur will collect his belongings at take them back up to their room allocated by Jas. Leaving the broadsword in Kinson's care of course, but keeping the long sword. Strapping Vinguard and the ceremonial dagger to his waist and leaving his armour and shield behind, Legildur collects the party and then waits for Timor to lead them back to the Church of Ellanna, walking beside Ianthe if she goes with them.
DM
Doth nods.
"I would like you hear and respond to where you are needed. I will see you in the morning good Legildur."
With that Doth gets up and exits the Welcome Wench Inn.
VORIAX
"Well, that is that. I am off to the healers. Anyone else coming along?"
Voriax pauses to let anyone join him, then walks to the healers (asking Timor for directions just in case).
KADDAR
Once Doth exits, Kaddar asks:
"So what is our plan Legildur? I still believe it's a vital task to locate the source of this undeads, despite the fact that they are attracted to attack travellers on nearby roads in almost all directions, according to Lord Doth they seem to gather East and North, and they are mostly skeletons and zombies, and it would be wise to arm us with some holy water as this creatures seem to be greatly affected by it."
ALOF
As I see the rest of the group preparing to get healing I gladly go along. As I walk I pull out the vial of holy water I carry out of my backpack and keep it in hand. (Never know what might happen)
TIMOR
Timor notices people preparing to exit and depart, as such, he finishes up his meal as quickly as he can - making sure to clean up any crumbs he dropped :) To those needing healing, Timor simply says:
"Just go to the temple, its right down the road, and mention you are with Timor. I shall be at the temple as soon as I am done escorting Doth back to the tower."
With that said, the brown eyed priest will exit with Doth back to the tower.
SAGGAR
"Do any of the members of this band have the ability to track?"
Saggar asks as he prepares his gear for the nights rest.
LEGILDUR
Legildur slowly shakes his head.
"I've worked with ranger scouts in Los Vain as a protection party and I marvelled at their skills. But sadly, no, I cannot track very well."
KINSON
Kinson also shakes his head.
"Like Legildur, I too have seen a tracker at work, and marvelled at their abilities, but my training was toward the end of what to do when you found what you were tracking!"
He smiles and laughs, slapping Saggar on the back as they walk out of the Inn toward the Temple of Elanna.
"I'm sure you can appreciate that,Saggar, I've seen how your axe sings when you swing it at an enemy."
DM
A portion of the band stays back at the Welcome wench Inn getting ready for the Night. Jas shows them to their rooms above on the second floor. Meanwhile the rest of the band minus Timor arrives at the Temple of Ellanna. They can see that one of the sides of the temple is scorched. The damage does appear to be recent (within the last month). As the walk in the front they are greeted by four acolytes with red maces. They are shown in to the main temple once they introduce themselves. There the High Priestess comes forward smiling at them.
"Welcome to the Temple of Elanna. Timor has asked that I offer me skills to you."
With that she proceeds and heals everyone in the band rather quickly... The warm magic of Elanna pervades your every muscle as she heals you. The only person that seems not to be healed is Legildur.
VORIAX
"Legildur, is that wound still causing problems? Mayhaps a remove curse spell or something will help it heal faster? Good priests, do you have a remove curse available?"
DM
The priests shake their heads.
"We have never seen a wound such as this. We are unsure how to heal it. "
KINSON
Kinson's eyes widen slightly at the healing touch, his wounds, small cuts, even bruises fade and disappear.
"It never ceases to amaze me what wonders the gods bestow on us mere mortals."
He looks the priest administering to him in the eyes and smiles.br> "Thank you very much, As Torm has instructed me I will endeavour to use this gift to protect the followers of Elanna."
After the healing Kinson walks to a less crowded part of the temple, where he kneels and prays silently. He continues praying until he hears the rest of the party members begin to leave and return to the inn. After everyone has left, he rises, removes his purse, sorts through the coins inside, removes several, and puts his purse away. He looks for an obvious place to leave a monetary offering, upon finding one he unobtrusively places the coins there, then he hastens to rejoin the rest of the party.
LEGILDUR
Disappointed, Legildur grimaces slightly before withdrawing the ceremonial knife used by the evil priest and holding it out in his right hand. The elven warrior shows it to the priests.
"This is the weapon that caused the injury. Perhaps it will tell you something of the wound and what, if anything, can be done about it." he says, hoping for a minor miracle.
DM
The priest looks at it carefully.
"It is a weapon that has been used for great evil. I do not recognise the religious marking on it I am afraid."
LEGILDUR
Legildur's brow furrows at the priest's words.
"I took the knife so as to prevent anyone misusing it. Should Nebious see it? What should be done with it? Has been used for great evil - does that make it evil?" he asks.
"Kinson, I should have asked you before. What can you tell me of it?" the elven warrior asks of his human counterpart holding the short, curvy blade out to the Paladin.
DM
The priest Nods.
"Perhaps Nebious can tell you something about it. I sense and evilness around it. I do not think that it is evil itself. But it has seen many evil deeds. "
KINSON
Kinson takes the dagger from Legildur and moves off to one corner of the room, where he places the dagger on a table in front of him. He pulls an item, hanging on a cord around his neck, from beneath his armour -- it is a flat, tin coloured, rectangular piece of metal with an image of a gauntleted fist etched into it's surface. He holds the item between his hands and concentrates on the dagger. You hear snippets of him whispering a quick prayer.
"...Most holy Torm... ask... you grant... it's secrets..."
OOC:
Charles, Kinson detects for evil on the dagger.
TIMOR
As the rest of the Band is receiving their gifts of healing, Timor makes his own return to the temple. He smiles to everyone in greeting, but his eyes betray him to reveal he has more on his mind. If anyone asks, he merely shakes it off saying he's just tired. He begins unfastening his new red hooded cloak, now soaked with the night's rain, and asks one of the acolytes if he can make arrangements to stay in the temple for the night (or rather, what remains of the night anyway ;)
Once arrangements for the night can be made, Timor wishes his companions a good rest and that he will see them all in the morning. With that said, he heads off to bed, feeling content and secure within the sacred walls of the temple; very rarely on his journeys does he get such an opportunity, as such, he tries to get the most out of each temple visit that he can.
OOC:
I would suggest come morning, you folks take a moment to glance over your inventory lists and see if you need more of some sort of supply/equipment (or for that matter, if you're carrying some sort of excess which your character could do without). If I remember correctly, there is a general store in town, (Charles had a map of this place last time we were here - small town, but it had the basics) so a quick trip to the store in the morning for some folks may be a good idea.
DM
Timor is quickly shown to a small room with two pallets in it. The Acolyte nods to him and says.
"Choose whichever you want brother. And if you have any other need just as for me. I am known as Brother Michael."
The Young man darts out of the room leaving Timor to rest. Timor removes his wet clothing and boots and soon finds himself fast asleep within the comforting walls of the Temple.
Everyone else returns to the Welcome Wench Inn. Jas greets them and gives them keys to their rooms. The Band separates into twos and goes to their respective rooms. Soon most are asleep though a few stay awake watching the door and windows. Their ears hear sounds in the night that they can not identify but that are not overly strange... Soon they too drift to sleep.
They are awakened by the rays of the sun on their faces. Timor is awakened by chanting from the main temple. It brings back memories of when he was much younger and was an acolyte... A long time ago before all this adventuring... The safety of the singing made him want to stay here forever... then thoughts of the danger the people are in and the temple. Of the danger of the servants of Balron... These thoughts help him strengthen his resolve as he gets up.
LEGILDUR
Legildur walks to the various rooms to ensure that everyone is awake as the sun crosses the horizon. Limbering up carefully, to avoid straining his wounded side, the warrior tests his range of movement. Moving back to his belongings, he begins to immediately don his plate mail, mindful that Lord Doth was fully armed at midnight a mere 6 hours (or less) earlier, so the threat of attack from the undead must be high.
"Here, Kinson, scratch my back and I'll scratch yours," the elf says as a way to have Kinson assist with the armour and speed the process for both of them (assuming he wishes to wear his armour).
Moving downstairs, Legildur sticks his head into the common room, searching for either Jas or his daughter so as to order a feed for the Band (except Timor of course). Back upstairs, Legildur gathers the party together as they arise.
"When you spellcasters have finished with your books and god, we'd probably be best to visit Lords Doth and Nebious to get an update and introduce ourselves to Lord Nebious. Remember, Lord Doth was fully armed last night, so I suggest we'd best be as well while the undead threat exists," he says.
"It'd be a good idea to bring along the extraordinary items we found in the maze for Nebious to have a look at. He has this uncanny ability to find the basic qualities of magical items from just handling them - must be something to do his studies. So grab those things like the flasks, the spear, the shortsword, the ring and all and we'll head there after breakfast.
And yeah, don't forget that card of the 'sceptic', that could be interesting." he adds before moving downstairs for the food he can now smell.
KINSON
Kinson awakes at Legildur's urging.
"Ughh... Let me do a few quick stretches, then I'll help with putting on our armour. Wake the others, I'll be done in a couple of minutes."
After getting Legildur's and his own armour situated, Legildur announces he's going downstairs to see about breakfast, Kinson reminds him.
"We better find out what we owe Jas and arrange for everyone to chip in this morning. In case we have to leave suddenly, we want him to welcome us back again. Not paying for his services would be a sure way to defeat future welcomings. Some members of the band, like Selander, may not have any money, I'll add whatever extra is required, just let me know discretely. I'll be down myself in just a few minutes."
Kinson returns to his room, where he kneels and says his morning prayers. Then he collects his belongings and follows the trail of wonderful smells to breakfast downstairs. During breakfast Kinson says to Legildur.
"I know you want to learn about the blade that caused the wound to your side, I should be able to determine if it has an evil enchantment."
Then he looks at the others gathered at the table.
"And while I'm at it adding additional items wouldn't cause a problem, if there's any items you would like me to test I would be happy to do so."
VORIAX
"I will be down shortly."
Voriax pulls out two large books from a bag and opens them up on a table or floor.
"Time to study again."
DM
As Legildur heads downstairs he can already smell the sausage that Jas's wife is cooking in the kitchen. The aroma makes his mouth water. As the elven warrior makes his rounds nothing seems out of place.
ALOF
Upon waking I begin to stretch and gather my belongings before heading down to the common room for breakfast. When I sit down to eat breakfast with the band I'll ask the group.
"Some of you have been here before, any idea if there's a weapons shop in town? I need to pick up some daggers. Also, any one has any uses for these? (shows the group: piece of red cloth, piece of green cloth, piece of Samite, piece of fine camlet, piece of moire, piece of musterdelvys). If you don't I'll try and get what I can for them."
After a little pause.
"So, Biladoc care to teach me that tumbling trick of yours? Of course, I will have to wait a bit for you to eat and digest but perhaps in the late morning after we have spoken to Lord Doth."
SAGGAR
Saggar rises and begins his prayers for the morning. Finishing, he then goes downstairs to breakfast:
MAXIMILLION
Max wakes up in the morning and memorises his spells. He will then go to the common area.
"Well I have a strength spell ready to cast. Who would like it?"
KADDAR
Kaddar wakes up and starts to study his books to memorise some spells, just when he is done, he walks down to meet the rest of the party at breakfast time. He listens to Alof.
"I could use some weapon too, and I sure need some clothes and equipment, I would not like keep wearing this raggedy clothes of mine and this sack as backpack, I also have one undefined potion I would like to identify and I could sure learn something more about this staff you fellows have so kindly borrowed to me."
The he pauses and adds.
"If we need to do this fast, maybe it's a good idea that Alof, me and someone who knows his way around here should go and do the shopping while Legildur and the rest go with Lord Doth, we can reach you there." Then he starts eating and he seems to be enjoying his meal a lot.
LEGILDUR
"Best leave that until we need it," Legildur says slightly muffled with a mouthful of sausage to Max's offer of the Strength spell.
Legildur laughs quietly to himself about Kaddar's state.
"There'll be time to fix that later," he says.
"For now, just enjoy a fresh meal. I don't know about you, but even though this fare is not from my homeland it slides down well enough. Thanks Jas," Legildur adds as he gestures with his knife and continues to demolish the meal before him.
"I think the first thing we should do is visit Lords Doth and Nebious," Legildur says to the party as they eat breakfast.
"We can get an update on the situation and decide what action the Band should take. It also gives us an opportunity to introduce those of us who haven't been here before to Lord Nebious. And I think Kaddar, that you would appreciate meeting the great mage. He also can give some indication of the purpose of the less mundane items we recovered from the maze. We can pick Timor up on the way to the Tower," the elven warrior adds.
"Then we can sought out supplies and such after that. Anyone disagree?"
If no one disagrees, the collecting any strange and wonderful gear they recovered from the maze, the Band heads east from the Inn and collects Timor from the Church on their way to the Tower.
KINSON
Kinson clears his throat.
"Max, I would very much appreciate your magical ministrations, but I agree with Legildur, we should wait to use it when needed. Is that possible?"
VORIAX
"I, for one, am most anxious to talk to Nebious again. I can't help but feel I am close to understanding some new magics that he might help me with. Plus there is this staff I am carrying around with me. It vibrates with potential energy."
OOC:
Voriax, shovelling the food in after memorising his 9 magic missiles.
:-)
KADDAR
Kaddar says:
"Anyway you say Legildur."
Then he says to Voriax.
"Do you still have the black book I gave you, sir Voriax? Have you learned something about it?"
VORIAX
"I have. It contains some magical spells. I can't believe it has slipped my mind for so long. At any rate, when we get to Nebious and Doth's tower, I'll show you what I understand in it. There is much that I do not comprehend yet though. It is one thing I wish to speak to Nebious about."
LEGILDUR
Assuming everyone decides to meet Lords Doth and Nebious at the Tower and that they have left the Welcome Wench Inn with their possessions required for the day (i.e. probable magical items for Nebious to examine) and are on the way to the Church to pick up Timor.
BIC:
Legildur greets one of the acolytes as the Band approaches the front entrance of the Church to Elanna.
"Can you direct us to where our companion Timor may be?" asks Legildur of the junior priest.
Upon finding Timor, and waiting for him to finish whatever his activities may be, the elven warrior greets the priest.
"Slept well in your god's arms I trust," he says with a grin.
The grin vanishes from his face as he recalls what it is they should do.
"Timor, you said last night that we should hold a service for Wrent. I think now would be a good time before we continue. I know you are not elven, but would you lead the service? And Kaddar, I think you should say a few words for his spirit."
Legildur lifts his head once the service is complete. Addressing Timor he says.
"Thank you for that. I only wish we had recovered his body for a full service. Hopefully in time we will."
The last said with a slightly distant look in his eyes.
"But come, Timor, we are off to the Lord's Tower. Hopefully Doth and Nebious will be able to give us a fuller picture of the situation around us and that Nebious can identify what some of the stranger items are that we recovered from the maze."
BILADOC
After a good bath, a long peaceful sleep and a sturdy breakfast, I follow the rest of the band to the temple to join Timor. When Legildur mentions having a service held in memory of Wrent, I approach Kinson and say in a low voice:
"Would you like Timor to say a prayer for Humphrey? I think he wouldn't mind it..."
I then say to Legildur:
"Huh... could we stop by on the way to buy some new clothes? We look like beggars in these rags..."
If Legildur agrees, I'll buy a couple of shirts, new trousers and a cloak.
KINSON
"A fine idea Biladoc!"
Kinson looks to Timor.
"If it's appropriate we would like to remember our fallen friends as well?"
Assuming Timor agrees Kinson will say a few words about the following people: Felix a brave halfling, Lapis a courageous woodsman, and Tarin a strong fighter who died defending the party from purple skinned demons that actually teleported into our rooms in Green Dragon Inn. Fraxen Ironbite a stout hearted Dwarf who died in the evil temple beneath Pensula. And Humphrey a noble fighter from Asga who died defending the party in the maze we so recently returned from.
TIMOR
When the rest of the band returns, Timor looks noticeably better than he did the day before - and its not just the fact that he cleaned up - the weariness and strain from his eyes seems gone... almost serene, as if not himself...
"Good morning my friends - I trust you slept well, I know I did"
He says the last part with a smile to the nearby acolytes. When Legildur mentions the services for Wrent, Timor seems almost taken off guard.
"Ah yes, I almost completely forgot about that, not out of disrespect, but out of sheer carelessness. I am sure the prayer room is emptied by now as the brothers finished their morning services well over an hour ago - I did so enjoy waking up with them and enjoying an early breakfast and prayer...reminded me much of my training days..."
Timor will take the others to a nearby prayer room and hold brief services for Wrent - they are not brief out of disrespect, but brief because without the body, there are few rituals that can be done in the name of Elanna other than speech and prayer. Timor talks in very general terms, discussing Wrent's honour as a man and the goodness he displayed while with them, this followed by ritual chants and prayer. In the end, he finally concludes it with:
"May Elanna, blessing healer and protectoress of us all, guide Wrent's soul safely to his after life."
The brown eyed priest closes the book he was reading from, closes his eyes for a few moments of silence in honour of Wrent, and then returns his attention to the matter at hand.
"I trust you all have eaten already? I had a meal with the brothers at first light...I will grab my things and wait for you outside."
Timor departs, returns to the room he slept in, gathers his belongings (pack, staff, and all) and then waits outside for the others. He figures some of them may need a few more moments to pray or think about Wrent so he doesn't want to rush anyone. When all are ready, he will go with them to the Lord's Tower...
'At least it isn't raining this time' he thinks to himself, 'will spare me the trouble of getting drenched while waiting for the guard to lower the draw bridge...' from that point on, he remains a bit quite - as he walks closer and closer to the tower, he keeps thinking of the conversation he had with Lord Doth the night before. Although Doth did his best to alleviate the problem, Timor can't help but still feel guilty...just something he will learn to deal with in time - after all, life is a continuous learning experience and a few wounds will be gotten along the way - but that is why Elanna is there, to help heal those wounds and to protect the goodness which lies at the heart of it all.
LEGILDUR
"Aye, clothes are needed by some. We may as well deal with that now," says Legildur in agreeance to Alof's request.
"I'd hate to get caught in a battle with dirty clothes." he adds with some sarcasm and then turns to lead them to Dirk's store around the corner. (Hopefully it is open).
DM
The band heads around the corner to Dirk's tailor shop. He smiles as he sees all the new comers entering, "Yes, ladies and sirs...How may I be of assistance."
KADDAR
Kaddar is the first to enter, he looks carefully at the store.
"Well met, Sir Dirk, my name is Kaddar and you can assist me with some clothing, nothing special, just some plain clothes I can use to travel around the lands, I was robbed you see and I have no clothes but this raggedy ones, what do you have that fits me, I could use some underwear, a robe, maybe trousers and a shirt, and of course a pair of soft boots and a back pack If you have one of those but I have little time... we are in some kind of hurry and I might be leaving town anytime."
Then he takes out some coins (20 g.p.) and says.
"What could I get with this?...".
DM
Dirk smiles as he looks at the gold coins.
"Quite a lot actually. How about some soft leather trousers and a Leather jerkin to protect you from the rigors of the road, A nice warm robe perhaps with a little embroidery. The colour is up to you as I have dyes I can use to make most any colour. The boots I can not help you with I am afraid but I can get some from the general store. They are imported from a cobbler somewhere West I think. As for the underwear that is n problem. I also have a white silk shirt that would fit you as well for those times when you need to be a little better dressed. "
KADDAR
Kaddar asks Dirk to send some one over the general store to get him the soft leather boots while he examines the new cloths and starts to wear them, he changes right there, he wears the underwear, the leather trousers and the silk shirt, then he picks a robe and he does not want it coloured as it could take more time, he just picks something brown or grey if available or any other colour he has already. Finally he puts on the robe and keeps the jerkin on his new back pack and just as a souvenir, he places the raggedy clothes and the sack into the back pack too. He thanks Dirk and pays him the 20 g.p..
LEGILDUR
Legildur similarly selects some replacement clothes for wear, concentrating on items suitable for adventuring - darker colours, cut to wear underneath plate mail, not too stylish and not exceptional quality.
"10 g.p. ought to cover it," says Legildur as he counts the money out for Dirk.
DM
Dirk nods.
"Yes, that ought to cover that all, Sir."
ALOF
After Legildur talks to the clerk I walk up to the counter place some coins on the table (10 g.p. or however much is needed) say.
"Same thing for me, only a bit smaller if you don't mind."
DM
Dirk smiles.
"Why, a Halfling! I have not seen one of you since I was a lad. Yes, I can tailor some to you. It should be able to have that ready by sunrise."
LEGILDUR
"Here, Selander," says Legildur to the mute stranger they rescued from the Maze.
"Would you like some new clothes?" he asks, knowing full well she will say yes.
"Pick whatever you like, my treat," the elven warrior adds with a wink.
"Dirk, can you get her something nice, but practical," he asks of the proprietor.
"We're on the way to the Lords' tower and no point her looking scruffy in borrowed clothes when the rest of us are newly dressed."
DM
She nods quickly and smiles. Legildur notices that she seems to pick out many of the same colour and materials that you have picked out.
SAGGAR
Saggar looks solemn as he eats his breakfast and accompanies the band to the temple. He is lost in thought, his face edged with the signs of a poor nights rest.
KINSON
While walking to Lord's tower, Kinson walks beside Saggar. He says to Saggar in a low voice so as not to be overheard.
"My friend, what bothers you? You seem ill rested today. I don't mean to pry, so if it's none of my business I'm sure you'll tell me so."
SAGGAR
Looking at Kinson.
"'Tis the dream I had last night. A dark and foul one with visions of a dark armoured foe"
KINSON
Nodding his head, Kinson says:
"Try to keep it in mind my friend, dreams can bring great portents. Perhaps you have seen a foe you will have to face in the future. When the time comes know that you do not stand alone."
Kinson ponders something for a moment, then in a strained tone of voice he says:
"I too have received a message. While I prayed in the temple last night I was granted a vision, but I do not yet understand it, nor, on the surface, does it seem to be connected to what you have seen, but perhaps... The vision started with a mighty and glowing throne room. On the throne sat an Elven Queen of great beauty. She looked down at me with very sad eyes, then reached out her hand toward me. But before she touched me the scene changed abruptly. I was thrown into a furious battle. All around me were the lifeless bodies on what I knew to be friends, and I was fighting a mighty serpent. The vision ended by showing me great glowing green orb over the field of battle! Much to think about..."
VORIAX
"Interesting. It sounds very much like the Dragon Orb we were searching for. Which would make sense. The elves have had much to do with that orb since it's creation. It is something to keep in mind..."
Voriax trails off in a private thought or several.
SAGGAR
Nods looking at him.
"The orb would be that of the wyrm we seek, and the elven queen that of Los Vain?"
KINSON
"Only one I know of so far. But as to what the meaning is I have not a clue. I trust it will be revealed to me at the appropriate time."
DM
The group gathers their things as they finish their breakfast. Jas seems happy as he serves the members of the Silver Blade. He smiles and pats them on the back. Legildur and Kinson inquire of the costs of the services the band has used. Jas smiles and lets them know that the total is 14 gold coins. He goes about his business. As members pay their bills (please figure out who pays how much and deduct it from your sheets please). Selander comes done and eats quickly. She is wearing a dress that must belong to Jas's daughter. One thing is for sure. The dress is too small around Selander thicker frame. Not to mention Selander is a little taller. She smiles as she sits down and eats. Her hair has been washed is quite lustrous.
As the band leaves they notice that Sleyvien and Ianthe have not arrived. When they ask Jas he nods.
"Aye, they left very early this morning together. They said they would return later today."
The group heads over to the Temple of Elanna where they meet Timor and have serves for Humphrey and Wrent. The services are quite solemn. As they services end everyone steps outside the temple of Elanna.
----------------
After this memorial service, lets take a few moments to think about our lost friends and all the things we've been through, before proceeding to Lord Doth's tower... and to the next chapter.
