HUMPHREY
"We need some place of protection quick. I do not think we can wait
until darkness to go to her house. If nothing else we can act a little drunk.
But I suggest that we go now, before we have pursuers. As far as the lady
is concerned, I think she might also help against the detection of this paper,
either that or get a priest to cast a spell which obscures its location."
CARYNTH
Carynth is in complete agreement with getting somewhere safe! You
fellows lead the way to this woman's house, and tally ho!
KINSON
"It shall be as you suggest. Could some of the healthier
folks crawl out and scout the area first? Then help the injured out. As soon
as we are all out. Let's move as quickly as reasonable, Humphrey and I
will lead us to our friends home."
DM
Somehow several of you where left off the discussion. This is the list of
items found:
Large warrior two hand sword seems of good quality, chain mail armour
worn by one of the two lesser guy seems interesting, a strange gold
broach of some sort of demon face lies on the ground by itself, Priests
mace looks interesting, Dain axe still glows, 145 gold.
ULATH
Sounds like some major mail problems. The Meat grinder is dead. The
Drow escaped. Items where recovered and the group moved out into the
sewers and is discussing what to do next.
Anyway, correct me if I'm wrong, In this group are:
Carynth
Ulath and Dog
Biladoc
Grumach
Humphrey
Kinson
If so, Ulath will cast a Cure on Grumach to get him to 1HP, a cure on
Flint the Dog, and will cast a Cure on Carynth, and will hold one for
emergencies. If nothing happens till the morning he will cast the last on
Biladoc, and then pray for the same spells! Besides this, there was some
good equipment from the fallen, ours and them, what happened to it?
DM
There was good equipment, chain mail, plate mail etc....Nothing
extremely interesting besides what I mentioned. What are you looking
for? I assumed you all would not want to pick these other items up
considering the amount of dragging and walking wounded you had.
CARYNTH
Carynth will be glad to take a quick peak around and then come back,
but she's not staying out for too long without the other party members!
KINSON
"More than one person could go."
ULATH
Ulath, will cast a Cure on Biladoc, and see if he is interested in
going scouting.
BILADOC
OOC:
Unbelievable! I thought I could take down the drow and then escape
the Meat Grinder, or maybe with luck to have him fall on the river if
he would follow us across the bridge. This suicidal plan was just to
give the others time to escape and recover. Glad it worked and more
glad I'm still alive.
BIC:
If nobody else did already, I'll pick up the money, the gold broach,
the mace and Dain's axe. I'd also like to recover the priest's staff.
I had still 10 HP, so I wasn't to hurt to carry all this and still
move quickly and help someone if needed.
I'll offer to go with Carynth and scout the sewers. (Huh... Where are
we exactly? Humphrey and Carynth were talking about some woman's
house. Is she the one the knights took the prisoner to?)
CARYNTH
Carynth doesn't know where this woman lives, but we're going to scout
the streets just above, I thought, not the sewers, to make sure it's
safe to go out with the rest of us, considering the hostile situation
in town here. I'm ready when you are!
ULATH
1 - My cure on Grumach did not work to get him back to his feet? As I
was remembering he was only -3HP.
2 - I assumed that we were resting near the battle place and not
doing all that you mentioned!
3 - I know that Biladoc would like to look for lost throwing daggers,
and would like to see the Head Priest's Staff with the funny head!
4 - Ulath is interested in those two throwing (battle?) axes that put
out Fraxen (I think) with a strike.
5 - Aren't any of the Knights interested in the plate of the big dud,
or they already have good Armour? I never saw they're description, or
if I did I no longer remember!
DM
1. Cure on Grumach brings him to 1HP he is conscious.
2. Group moved away from the battle site into the sewers as they
expect more templers to come if they stay. Since the Drow escaped to
give warning.
3. He can find a couple daggers in a hurry. And the Head Priests staff
I believed was mentioned among the interesting items. If not it should
have.
4. Yes two fine quality throwing axes that the "Meat Grinder" threw.
5. I believe one wears chain mail and one wear Plate mail. The big Dude
was wearing Plate mail as I remember.

Ok, people I'm sorry if I seem repeating myself, but let's recapitulate:
1 - 3 Working characters, Me Biladoc and Carynth.
2 - 3 Moving Characters. Kinson, Humphrey and Grumach.
3 - A Dog
4 - Some Loot
5 - Did any of the Fighters replaced his amour by the Dud's Plate?
<
6 - We are at the sewers exit? - Right? <
7 - We have a city looking for us? Right? - <
8 - Some companions are missing!
9 - We need a resting-place for, let's say, 2 days!
So please, feel free to add some important details that I missed, and
suggestions, and how are we going to get those 2 days rest, in this city
before attempting the Gates! Grumach, Kinson, Humphrey, your
suggestions are welcome, especially since we (Paulo and me) didn't get
them, last week, because of the big mail confusion. Thank you all
Yes, the guards should be looking for you for the incident at the
Green Dragon. Especially Biladoc. Serian and Alof are unaccounted for.
Grumach is awake now. You are correct.
Kinson is satisfied with his current armour. And you were correct to
assume that we would be travelling light due to our health
conditions.
OOC
I still would like to have some input, from our deep wounded
companions, but my suggestion till we got free from the sewers, is to
move slowly and paying attention for noises.
BIA
Ulath suggests:
Since we still are looked for, above, we should exit from a different
entrance than the one Sir Humphrey took to get in, because I remember
that the Law, was hot on his tail, and might still be there, waiting for us to get out.
Not so much that the city hates *us*, it hates elves.
As for suggestions, I figure it's not unlikely that the sewers lead
out of the town (to dump their contents). I think we should follow
the sewers (is there a current?) out of town, and camp out in the
wilderness.
I certainly don't think that we should remain in the sewers while we
try to heal, it's not particularly ... clean.
If we go into the wilderness, I can use my herbalism skills, and
concoct more of the stinkpots, and possibly some weak poison
(Charles?).
There is a current. It leads to the harbour. which is still technically in the
city. I don't know about poisons except for very very mild ones.
D'oh. Harbour, shoulda guessed...
Yeah, I've had DMs say to me that Herbalism won't make scratch to
herbalism will make poison depending on the terrain...
My thinking is that Very Very Mild Poison beats No Poison.
This was an excellent suggestion, unfortunately I never knew this city
even had a harbour. We'll have to try it another way.
OOC:
How bad are Humphrey, Kinson and Grumach?
What time is it (afternoon, almost night, what?).
BIC:
I turn to the others and say:
'I think Ulath is right about finding another way out. However, I
don't think we can go exploring the sewers. First, because we have to
leave our wounded friends behind, with no protection against any
attack from the cult of Diabolicus. Second, because the three of us
would probably find it very difficult to resist another fight with
them. I think we have a greater chance out in the streets, where we
can find some help, than down here, where we only have enemies.
This is what I suggest: Carynth and me wait until night and go out to
get someone to help get the wounded to a safe place to rest and
recover. Ulath and Flint stay here to give some protection while we
are out. Carynth, you can go to the Green Dragon. Nobody is looking
for you and you're not an elf. Maybe you can find Alof, Draco or
Shanna. I will go to the house of the "lady in white" Sir Kinson mentioned. If
she can be trusted, I'll ask her to send someone to help us get to
her house tonight, and give us shelter until we are fully recovered.
She can then help us to get out of town. What do you think?'
Many good suggestions here also. I originally suggested waiting until
dark as well, but was voted down.
Biladoc and Carynth should just scout the immediate area above the
sewers -- to see if it's safe for everyone to exit. Then they can help us get
the wounded out of the sewer grate.
The lady in White does not live in this area; she has offered her
help in the past, but she can refuse if she wants -- although I don't believe
she will.
If there was a way to leave the city unnoticed that wouldn't be a bad
idea either. Let's try and get to her apartment first.
Ulath says,
Can you people see if there is a dark corner, enough to hid Grumach?
He is kind of conspicuous!
I'll say to Ulath:
'Can't one of you lend Grumach a hooded cloak? He can walk a little
bend, too. That will make him more inconspicuous.' I'll say to
Carynth: 'The innkeeper may be able to help us. And see if you can
find Shanna or Draco, too.' I'll enter the Green Dragon after Carynth,
looking inside first to see if there are any guards (especially those
whose sergeant I attacked...). If I see none of them, I'll enter and
look for the keeper.
Grumach already wears a hooded cloak, though it is likely torn and
blood stained.
Carynth and Biladoc go forward and open the grate. They exit looking
around the alleyway. They see a troop of guards walk by the alleyway
just after they exit the grate. You see the main street ahead and the
back door to the Green Dragon Inn here in the alley.
Carynth points meaningfully at the Green Dragon and leans over to
whisper to Biladoc, "Seeing as it's right here, I think I'll go look
inside for Alof. What say you?"
Biladoc and Carynth hear laughter from within the Green Dragon Inn.
A window up above on the second story opens with a creak. You crouch
as someone empties a chamber pot into the alley near you. A few drops
of rain begin to fall as clouds move in to block the sunny sky above.
A dark cloak figure moves past the entrance way into the alley from the
main street. He glances into the alley but takes no interest in you
as he begins to move on.
Carynth will look quickly to see if there is a place to stow Grumach,
since he's apparently conspicuous, and then will head on into the
Green Dragon, if Biladoc doesn't protest.
She sees nowhere where she could stow someone as large as Grumach.
She enters the green Dragon with Biladoc in tow. As she enters she sees
the bar tender and a serving wench. In here are several labourers
drinking as well as a table with four guardsmen seated at it. The
Guardsmen stare at her as she enters. When they see Biladoc they stand.
OOC:
"I'll enter the Green Dragon after Carynth, looking inside first to
see if there are any guards (especially those whose sergeant I
attacked...). If I see none of them, I'll enter and look for the
keeper." I wrote this on May 19, but it seems you didn't get it. No
problem (I hope). Are those the same guys we met before? The sergeant
is not in the Inn, right?
BIC:
I say to Carynth, loud enough for the guards to hear, disguising my
voice with a foreign accent: 'Thank you for showing me the way to this
Inn, dear lady. I'll see if I can find my brother now.'
In a whisper I say to her:
'Talk to innkeeper. Ask for Shanna. I'll distract the guards'
I look around and then approach the guards slowly, limping from
my left leg and smiling:
'Begging your pardon, gentlemen. Perhaps you could assist me in a
little predicament. I'm looking for my brother, Tolpan. He looks very
much like me, except he has a pet hawk and is quite lively. More
lively than he should, sometimes. He keeps getting in trouble and
that's why I came after him. He left home a few days ago, saying he
was coming to Pensula to find fame and fortune. You don't have by any
chance heard of such a traveller entering your city in the past few
days, have you?' I'll try to keep the table between me and the guards,
or at least not getting close enough to be caught by them, ready to tumble
out if they come for me.
I got that message Paulo. I did think something happened to you.
I'll move to the bartender and offer a gold piece, sliding it across
the bar, and ask for news of Alof or Shanna, the bard. I'll keep my
eye on Biladoc, in case his plan doesn't work and he needs help.
OOC: Seems to me, if the guards are this touchy, they should just
have everyone hand in their weapons at the door! As it is, it may
prove their last mistake.... (evil laugh)
"I sure hope Carynth and Biladoc aren't running into problems. They've
been gone a long time. We may need to move on our own, if they don't return."
OOC:
I hope you two are making regular moves with Charles. :-)
They are.
The guards approach Biladoc:
"Sir halfling, you will have to come with us." Carynth walks up to the bar
tender and asks for Alof or Shanna. The bar tender says. "I have not
seen the bard since the day you where with her, lady. As for the other
one, he left with you."
I look at the guards with a surprised look in my face:
'Go with you, gentlemen? Of course, if you could be so kind as to let
me know where to and for what reason. Has it anything to do
with my brother? Has he been up to some mischief again? Oh dear. That
boy should have been named Trouble instead of Tolpan. As he been
arrested? Please tell me what happened to him.'
I keep an eye on the guards, ready to pull out my swords if they
attack Carynth or me.
The guards who have a hold of you look at you strangely. "Your brother
you say." Well, we are taking you to the guardhouse. The Priest will
ask you the questions about your brother so we can know the truth.
"They still have hold of your arms as I said before. One guard on each
side and two facing Carynth talking to her.
Well, how do you like that? Alof hasn't been here! Carynth turns
towards the guards bothering her little halfling friend, and asks,
"Problem, gentlemen?" She doesn't grip her scimitar, but then again,
her hand isn't very far away from it, either.
The guard sergeant looks Carynth over. She does not like the way his
eyes seem to undress her as he does. A grin comes to his face. But
then his smile disappear is he stares at the finely crafted scimitar.
"No problem Lady. We have instructions to take in all Halflings for
questioning. "He thinks for a second. "You do know a wood priest that
fights with a spear and yells like a mad man do you? He talks with a
funny accent?"
Carynth chuckles dryly and says, "If I did, would he be in trouble?"
She signals for a glass of ale to be brought for her and the guards,
if they will. She looks VERY friendly at the guard sergeant and
says, "I've always had a weakness for the inner workings of patrol.
What's this wood priest been up to, and how come you have to question
all the halflings?"
OOC:
I wonder how the heck I'm going to get a message back to the rest
of the party not to come here? Oh, I know. My plan is to lead the
guards away - no... They still won't know to come up. What a pickle.
I know! I'll play this guy up, then meet him at the station, where we
can break out Biladoc, and in the meantime, I'll tell the folks in the
sewers they can come to the inn! Anyone got any better ideas?
The guard sergeant waves off the ale. "Thank you for the gesture but
we must get this halfling to the guardhouse as soon as possible. " He
pauses for a few seconds liking the response he has gotten. "Yes this
wood priest joined a pair of rebels a few weeks back. We attempted to
arrest them right here. The wood priest killed one of my guards. And
there are halflings believed to be in league with the elves in an
attempt to kill the King."
Carynth sighs noisily over the wasted ale, then replies, "Well, where
is this guardhouse? Perhaps I'll stop by to retrieve my friend when
you've ascertained he's not who you're looking for." Carynth tries to
catch Biladoc's eye, in the hope he'll signal something to her. As
she's signalling, she'll try to impress the feeling on him that maybe
they should just slay these guards and be done with it - cuz it's
going to be really hard to get him out of the guardhouse later!
Carynth smiles at the guard and looks woefully at the ale again. "Or
perhaps I'll stop by later anyway, just to see a sergeant at work.
Are there many people at this guardhouse, demanding your sergeanting?"
wink, wink.
The Sergeant smiles in return, "Well, perhaps I could tear myself away
for a while...Did you say he was your friend? I thought you said you did
not know him?" A look of suspicion suddenly descending on the guards face.
OOC:
I only a lurker because my character, Kinson, doesn't know this
is happening. Anyway -- I don't remember reading that the guards had
taken hold of Biladoc`s arms. Did this appear in a message that wasn't
sent to the rest of us?
OCC:
Could be. I recall it but don't remember. Maybe they just told
him that he had to go with them. Unless he does otherwise they get
hold of his arms now.
OOC:
Like Art/Kinson asked, when did they got a hold of me?! I was going to
keep some distance between us, so I could escape if they didn't buy my
story.
BIC:
I look at Carynth, and before she can say anything to the
sergeant, I say:
'The lady is very kind. *We just met a few hours ago*, when I asked
her assistance to help me assert the whereabouts of my brother. It took
us a while to get here, on account of my leg, and on the way we
started talking and she was touched by my misfortune, brought upon my
family by this troublesome brother of mine.'
Sighing heavily and staggering a bit, I say to the guards holding me:
'Please gentlemen, could I sit down? I've been walking for almost all
of the day and my leg is hurting. Perhaps I could even answer your
questions here. I've nothing to hide and it would save me and you a
walk to the guardhouse. The gods only know how difficult it is for
me to do all this walking about.'
Carynth smiles easily at the suspicious guard and murmurs, "And here I
was about to name you friend, too, and I've certainly known you less
time than this upstanding citizen." She rolls her eyes at him and
says, "It must come in the line of duty, to be so high strung all the
time. Why don't you question the halfling here? Perhaps then we can
All chat together and get to be...friends."
The Guard sergeant seems to hesitate for just a second, "I am afraid I
don't do the questioning. My orders are clear. I have to take him
back. But will have some free time tonight. If you would not be
busy, I would love to buy you dinner at the Crystal Clef. "
Carynth frowns in consternation. "And I'm afraid that I have an
engagement for later." Then she brightens with inspiration. "Let's say
you do have to take him back, but when? Guards are allowed to whet
their thirst, I'm sure. Then I could get to know you better, your
boys could get a much deserved break, and we could see if my
engagement seems as important in an hour or two," she pauses and
murmurs suggestively, "Big Guy."
OOC:
All right. I have pondered and pondered. I try to look
meaningfully at Biladoc, but if I can't get any sign from him first, I'm
just going to haul off and slay this sergeant. What say you, Paulo?
OOC:
We tried everything. Lets get this over with. I've asked Charles
about XP gained in the last fights (character improvement would be
welcome right now ;-) ) but got no answer.
BIC:
I'll assume the guards have let me sit down and kept their positions
as before. I look back at Carynth, nod slightly and casually let my hands
approach the hilts of my black dagger and my short sword.
OOC:
Charles, what are exactly the positions of the guards? Is this correct?
Carynth
Sergeant Guard 1
Guard 2 Biladoc Guard 3
Besides the six of us, how many customers are there in the Inn? What
are they doing?
Okay, Charles. Here's the deal. We're going to try to take that
sergeant hostage, so the other guards will let us go - maybe we'll
swipe some guard uniforms. Paulo has a plan! So I'll draw my
scimitar, hoping the other guards will step away from Biladoc in
defence, and he'll try to jump on the sergeant with a dagger drawn.
I'll attempt to grab, restrain and threaten him into submission with
my scimitar. After that, we'll take it step by step. Can't wait to
hear from you!
The guards have not let Biladoc sit down. Two are holding him by the
arms still. The third stands near them. The Druidess draws her
scimitar and the sergeant steps back away from her and towards the
guards and hobbit. He begins to draw his weapon. The guards react as
follows. The one not holding Biladoc draws his short sword and begins
to move forward. One of the ones holding Biladoc says, 'Watch him" and
draws his short sword and moves forward. The third soldier holds
Biladoc but is not watching him very intently. He does have Biladoc's
right arm. He says to Bil, "Stay calm lad." In a sincere voice, "If
your not guilty everything will work out fine." Carynth does not see
an easy way of pinning the sergeant with her scimitar and Biladoc is
still restrained by one guard.
Carynth will attempt to attack one of the other guards, hoping to slay
him, and then turn her attention to threatening the sergeant again.
Needless to say, she'll attempt to avoid any swords thrust her way.
I'll take out my black dagger and backstab the guard nearer to me (if
I can get the sergeant, even better). If the guard holding me lets me
go to take his sword, I'll take my short sword and attack whichever
guard is nearer (if I can backstab anyone else I do so, if not, I'll
finish the one I've hit and go for another). If he doesn't let me go,
I'll attack him with my dagger.
Carynth moves with lightning speed. Her ornate scimitar plunges
deeply into one of the guards chests. He moans and falls to the ground
lifeless. A large pool of crimson liquid begins to pool under his body. The Inn
Keeper ducks behind the bar saying, "Damn, why does this always happen here!"
Biladoc begins to pull away from the guard holding him drawing his dagger.
The guard jerks on him as he draws his short sword. Biladoc is quicker
however and plunges his dagger into the restraining guards torso. The guard
gurgles dropping his sword. Blood bubbles out of his mouth as he collapses on
the floor. The guard sergeant draws his long sword quickly striking
towards Carynth. "Witch!" he exclaims as he swings. Carynth manages to avoid
his blow. But the last guardsman attacks with hi short sword. He
stumbles as he half turns seeing Biladoc move out of the corner of his eye. His
swing is wide not even getting close to the female druid.
I will leave the other puny (hehe) guardsman to Biladoc, and attempt
to subdue the guard sergeant. How exciting!
What exactly do you mean by Subdue? please be more specific?
Sorry. Subdual attack, such as smashing him with the flat of my scimitar
and such, trying to get him to submit and admit defeat without killing him.
I'll take out one short sword, still holding my dagger.
If possible, I'll try to backstab the sergeant, since he's busy
trying to hit Carynth. If I can strike the sergeant without being hit
by the remaining guard, I'll do so (even if I don't backstab him). If
not, I'll go for the guard.
Carynth swings her scimitar around cutting the guard Sergeant across
the left arm. He jerks his arm back and swings his long sword in a
deadly arc towards the druidess. However, the druidess is too quick
and darts away from his swing. He curses under his breath as he tries
to manoeuvre for position. Meanwhile Biladoc is engaged with the other
guardsmen. There is a flash of blades and sparks as they exchange
parries and thrusts. Finally Biladoc scores a small cut on the man's
right arm. He curse at Biladoc, "You little runt! You're going to pay
for that!"
I'll throw my dagger at the guard and take out my other short sword,
striking at him as I smile and say:
'Save your breath. You'll need it to greet your friends in Hell!'
Face flushed in concentration, Carynth sends a new flurry of attacks
at the guard sergeant. If it comes out that she can't get away with
subdual damage, or if she takes a serious hit (more than 4 h.p.)
she'll just slice at him with the sharp edge of her blade.
The guard sergeant takes the initiative this time his long sword
swings once missing the Druidess. Thinking his attack is over she
moves forward. The long sword comes back across however striking deep
into her mid torso. (-8hp rolled bad actually with a natural 20). The
guard fighting Biladoc has worse luck missing the quick little hobbit.
Biladoc attacks, his short sword knicking the guard. As the
guard thinks he has Biladoc he discovers that the halflings dagger is
deep in his stomach. With a groan the guard falls over head. Carynth
attacks the sergeant with her scimitar after recovering from the wound
that he had inflicted. Her swing however is wide and cleanly misses him.
Well, that dirty rotten....Carynth renews her attack with a frenzy,
vowing not to be so careful with the guard this time. Nix the subdual
attempt, there, Charles, aye?
Carynth lunges forward swiping with her scimitar in anger. Her
swing though is wide and the sergeant easily parries it as he steps forward.
The sergeant's long sword comes up cutting Carynth along the inner left
thigh.(-5hp). Pain rushes to her brain almost making her fall. Blood
begins to stream down her leg. Biladoc takes advantage as he moves behind
the sergeant throwing a dagger as he draws his second short sword. The thrown
dagger misses badly as does Bil's short sword swing. The sergeant turns so
as to be able to face both opponents. His left hand extended and the long
sword held high. He awaits another opening.
Meanwhile in the sewer Ulath reaches the sewer grate that leads
into the back alley behind the Green Dragon inn.
Ooooh, Jedi master, he is using the force. With a curse and
calculating eye, Carynth attacks again, hopefully in concert with Biladoc, so
this nimble foe can't fight de both of us. All that way through the priests'
lair and I emerge healthy. One little guardsman with an eye for tough women....
Carynth attacks (owe a 20) and her scimitar separates the guard
sergeant's head from his body. At the same time Biladoc manages to
strike a blow and Ulath emerges from the sewers at the back of the
Inn. So will the druidess and Biladoc exit out the back?
Ulath says:
I don't believe! If I leave you alone, you always find trouble.
Halflings! Let's go, before this becomes too serious!
I assume that means Ulath went in the back door and saw the two of you
standing among the gore. The Bar keep leans over, "Get out quickly.
You have brought enough trouble here already. And just so you know. A
dwarven warrior came here asking about Ulath earlier today. "
I'll recover my daggers, search the guards for money/jewels/whatever.
If the guards have any daggers, I'll take them too.
I'll give the guards money to the Innkeeper saying:
'If they ask you, tell them a group of elves did this, helped by a
couple of priests of Diabolicus. Now bring us some healing herbs and
bandages. Oh, and put some bacon, cheese, bread and a few bottles of
wine in a bag for us.'
Carynth nods and looks warily about her. "That's a good idea,
Biladoc. Then we should leave. I'd say this town won't be too friendly
towards us after this."
Biladoc finds a total of four daggers and some money on the men. The
InnKeeper responds, "I have no healing herbs nor bandages. Use the
guards capes for bandages if you want". He brings you some roast
potatoes, cured ham, several loafs of bread, 3 large wedges of
cheese and two bottles of wine. "Now quickly be gone!"
Carynth nods curtly, and says, "Thank you, friend. You may be
assured we don't want to bring you more trouble. We'll be taking our
supplies, if you'd be so kind, and go."
I'll take the daggers and the guards' capes. I'll cut one of the
capes and bandage Carynth so as to stop the bleeding and say to Ulath:
'Do you have any idea who that was, asking for you? Let's go back to
the others and get some rest.'
I pick up the bag the Inn keeper prepared, thank him and take out a
roast potato, eating it as I move out:
'Huummm... Delicious! I really needed this! It's been ages since I've
eat anything.'
I turn to Carynth:
'Can you walk or do you need help from us? You fight well, Druidess.
The problem with you humans is your size. You're very easy to hit. Oh
well, not everyone is fortunate enough to be born a halfling.'
OOC:
I think this was said more than once but... I feel like I'm in NBA
(Net's Best: Artisc). I LOVE THIS GAME! ;-)
I do have some sad news for you, but I'll let my friend Kinson
explain everything!
"We're attacking an evil temple which is accesses via these sewers.
The attack did not go well, we lost a large part of our party -- some very
good people, and several of us were severely injured, and need to rest.
Two of our number are above in the streets checking if it's safe for the rest
of us to come out; we are going to attempt making our way
to the home of a friend Humphrey and I met in this city.
Unfortunately, our scouts have not returned and I am beginning to fear that
something has happened. If you know of a safe place to go from here we
would be more than grateful for your help.
As for the sad news you mentioned, I'm not exactly sure what you mean
-- is it possible that you were related to one of our fallen comrades in arms?"
"I am related to Ulath. I have just arrived in this city and know of
no place to hide. I have just rescued a friend of yours, Alof the
hobbit, slaying four guardsmen in the process. I doubt they want to
see me. He just walked into a gate that we found in an old closed off
room here in the sewers. I would trade these silver throwing daggers,
10 in all, for the axes as I am proficient in them. I have some
healing skills and magics for those that need them. The room is behind
a solid door, but offers little more than an out of the way place to rest.
"This 'out of the way place to rest' might be our best option. I wish there
was a way to get word to Biladoc and Carynth, were we to relocate
there. It would give the other healers and myself time to rest, and regain
our magic time to return."
Kinson nods agreement with Grumach, then says, "I think your right
Grumach, this is our best option yet. The enemy will expect us to
return to the city, and that is probably where they have most of their
informers and watchers planted. They may not watch the sewers they use
themselves as closely. I think we should go to this "room" as soon as
possible. Is their anyone here healthy enough to go and check on
Carynth and Biladoc? We should not abandon them too quickly."
Charles, how long in game time have Carynth and Biladoc been gone?
One hour? More? Less?
2 hours to an hour and a half.
Ulath says:
Ok friend, here are two throwing axes, that seem to be of good quality,
and if my companions don't mind, they will lend you an axe from a
fallen companion. This axe shines with a visible light. While you pick this
weapons I'll cast my last cure on you, if you are wounded, and I think we two
should go to the entrance of the inn and call our companions back!
With the strength that he has left Kinson lays out his blanket roll.
He prays thanks to his god for letting him survive the day, and asks
that he be allowed to avenge the good comrades that were lost this
day. Then without even thinking of placing a guard he falls asleep.
Unfortunately my friend Saggar, our companions can not receive more
healing today, but only after some rest. Let us make ready to depart,
while me and Saggar will look carefully at the inn, where our
companions went a few hours ago.
Grumach, if he is able, will try to keep guard, but will probably lose
consciousness midway through his post...
I think is best if Saggar stays here to guard the wounded, I'll leave
Flint here to guard also! Saggar should try to block those doors!
Ulath will try to go to the entrance of the inn and take a peek, if he
finds them Ok, if not he will not search alone in the city, he will
return back!
Kinson wakes after six hours, then realises he forgot about posting
guards, and scolds himself, telling himself to be more vigilant next
time. He looks around to see who is here.
(Charles we may have to wait until the others have played these six hours
of game time - I don't mind - let me know what you want me to do.)
8 hours, pass quickly as many of the band rest. Saggar seems preoccupied with
his packs and listening to the two doors. He seems fidgety and nervous
as though anxious to move on. Kinson, Humphrey, Grumach, and Carynth
sleep like babes the entire time. Ulath, and Biladoc cat nap here and
there looking around and trying to keep watch with Saggar. As the
members begin to wake they find themselves rested to a point. Grumach,
Kinson, and Humphrey find that their fever has broke. (Everyone gains
1 hit point from the rest, if you where missing a hit point of course)
If Kinson is strong enough to lay hands now, he will do so to Humphrey.
Is Grumach sufficiently recovered to pray for spells?
Yes, his fever has broken allowing him to cast and heal.
OOC:
Good. I memorise all healing spells. I go over my companions,
and see who is wounded and how, though restoring myself to health does take
priority.
IC:
"Yea, by the true light of Liscivious, and the wisdom of the
ways, I call upon the healing paths to guide me from these wounded
shadows..." and so forth.
Ok, let me get to order again, because I seem to have lost some track!
1 - Ulath, Carynth and Biladoc arrive to the room with the party!
2 -Saggar cast his last healings + one from me on Carynth!
3 - Next morning (where are the famous XP O mighty GM?)
4 - Me, Flint, Biladoc and Saggar at full HP!
5 - Carynth how are you after those 3 CLW last night + rest?
6 - Morning after praying (and without XP from the GM) I have My spells!
7 - 4 healing spells from me + 4 from Saggar, plus what Carynth has after
healing her! So, how are you 3, (Humphrey, Kinson and Grumach) after
Grumach cured himself?
"Why don't we let a cleric try to cast some healing spells on us and see
if they hold?"
Ulath will cast 2 cures on Humphrey and suggests Saggar to do the same
on Kinson! How low on HP are Grumach and Carynth?
Humphrey looks to the rest, "I need more healing."
OOC:
I was at 2 hps then Kinson laid Hands on me and now I am at 8 Hps.
Need more healing. Two average cure light wounds should do the trick.
OOC: Kinson is also at 2 hp.
Grumach has cast as many healing spells as necessary to take him to
maximum. I need Chaz to let me know how many healing spells I have
left, and whether or not I levelled (and thus have more hp's to refill...).
Regardless, Grumach shouldn't be needing external healing. If he has
spells left over, he will say so. He will then ask "Who is need of
healing?"
OOC:
In a tabletop ADD game I'm in, we are dealing with the problems
of not having a cleric. We managed an NPC cleric to come with us, on
agreement that we would tithe 10% of our income. Hiring this priest
became an increasing priority, especially when the only PC confidant
in there abilities as a medic was using such practices as "Cranial
Drills"... (to let the evil spirits escape the skull, which would
facilitate healing)
Humphrey smiles as he receives the two heals and stands up and
stretches. "Wow, I feel brand new." He looks fully healed.
Once all are healed he looks to the group. "We need to decide
what to do next." He looks at those who recently went above ground
and asks what all has transpired while the wounded recovered.
Carynth reports herself as fully healed and rested. "Does anyone else
need these two heal spells that I have?"
"My lady, I am afraid that in my current condition I would not be of
much help to the party at all. I humbly ask for your healing magics."
I do as instructed and cast two on Kinson.
Kinson was just healed 13 points by Saggar the new dwarf in the group.
"I have one healing left to me this day. If Carynth's magics are
not sufficient, I can ply my own as well."
Kinson, after the healings just performed by the new member of our
party (thank you very much) do you require more? If so, Carynth will
use her cure light wounds, Charles.
"With Saggar`s most generous gift I am still only little more than half
healed. The gift of your healing magics would be most appreciated."
To Grumach: "It seems Saggar`s generosity has reached me first, and
Carynth has offered to finish my healing. I ask that you save your magic
for a future need, but I thank you the same for your offer."
To Saggar: "Thank you good sir for your most generous gift. I shall
endeavour to repay your generosity."
"You are most welcomed sir. We have three choices, the two doors and
through yonder magical portal carved on the floor. That is where Alof
went" Saggar says as he pulls out a piece of jerky and eats breakfast.
"Ulath how has life been since you left the mountains cousin?"
Carynth casts her two light wounds on Kinson, then kneels down to pray
for some more. She votes for going through the portal after Alof.
I take out some bread, cheese and ham and make a huuuuge sandwich. I
offer the others some food and wine, saying:
'I think we'd better *scronch* eat something before *chomp* anything
else. I almost *slurp* starved yesterday. And I think we better *gulp* find
some other way of leaving this *nham* town, rather than going back on the
streets again. Carynth and I had a little *scronch* argument with four *gulp*
guards. When we left the *chomp* Inn, they were slightly *nham* dead.'
I look at Saggar and ask him:
'Welcome to our company, Saggar. Any cousin of Ulath is a cousin... I
mean, welcome aboard. Do you know where Alof is? And what lies beyond
that magic door you mentioned?'
"Thank you Carynth, you are most gracious, I vow to protect
you and Saggar to my last breath.
(OOC: Charles, please let me know how
much healing Kinson has received from Carynth`s spells)
He continues:
"Normally I would suggest exploring this area to its fullest before enter any
magic portal that we might now be able to get back from, but in
this case since one of our own has already gone through I would
suggest that we follow --Alof may need our assistance."
Then he walks over to Biladoc: "You are most kind for sharing your
food with us," and begins making himself a sandwich.
"Mmmmm, delicious."
After eating he secures his belongings and prepares to step through
the portal.
Carynth seeing that Kinson is yet not healed case two more minor
healing enchantments upon him. The full colour returns to Kinson's cheeks and
his wounds heal up leaving only scabs.
Kinson, you are now fully healed.
Carynth smiles amiably at Biladoc's chatter, then yawns hugely. "I'm
not quite rested, and I'll need to sleep a few hours before I can
relearn the heal spells, anyway. And at the rate this party is going,
we need all we can get! I'm for following after Alof, since we've
certainly worn out our welcome in this town." She chuckles wickedly at
the remembrance of the guard's head leaving his shoulders, then rolls
into her blanket again.
OOC:
I assume you're waiting the four hours, or taking a long time to eat,
so Carynth can relearn her spells? If not, we can go on without them,
if you're comfortable with that.
"Wait, friend. Carynth has the idea. We need to rest another day,
so the spellcasters can recover their spells. We have no idea what
lies on the other end of that portal, and I think it unwise for us to
dash off with only my single remaining healing spell in stock...
Healed as we are, we can likely keep this place under guard for
another night. How are we on supplies?"
"I will rest as well as to recover my spells since we are spending the
time here" Saggar finds a place to sleep in a corner away from the doors.
That's it so far. Lets leave this party rest for a while (they sure
need it). Finally, I've catch up with the story. That's about 350
messages out of my mail box...
