Who should wear the Sacred Shield?

That question is the point of so much speculation and argument on the net and amongst comic geeks around the world, that I've decided to put my views out there. You see, recently a little movie called "Superman Lives" was announced, and the casting directors in their "infinite wisdom" (he said rolling his eyes) decided that Nicholas Cage was just the guy to play our favourite Man in blue spandex. Now, call me wacky, but Nick Cage is odd, he looks odd, he comes across as odd, he's just odd. Superman is not ODD. He's clean-cut, all-American, Please-and-thank-you goodness, he's not a little nutty, or slightly off kilter. Don't mess with what Supes is, you're asking for trouble. That in mind, below you will find my pics to play the roles in the superman film, and a link to Kevin Smith's (Of Clerks, Mall Rats and Chasing Amy fame) original script to this film, not outstanding, but some really great moments, I recomend reading it. So, without further ado, I give you my casting picks for

First, because I know you'd all Lynch me if I saved him till last, the man in blue himself: SUPERMAN

Paul Gross
This here is my top pic to play the man of steel. You probably know him from the series "Due South" in which he portrays Constable. Benton Fraser. Personally, I think he bears a striking resemblence to both Christopher Reeve (The greatest Superman) and to Superman himself. Watch an Episode of "Due South" and see him nail the good guy character. He knows how to play this role, and if anyone should be the next Superman, it's him.

Brendan Fraser
My second choice for role of Superman. Brendan Fraser, as anyone who's seen his films will tell you, is a very capable actor. His physique is buff enough that he could fill out those blue Pj's nicely, and I think his appearence isn't too far from the Man of Steel's as to make him uncastable. He could do a great Clark Kent, and I think he'd do a fine job as the man in blue.

Next up, everyone's favourite hard-ass reporter Lois Lane. Now, the popular rumour of who was going to be cast as Miss Lane was Sandra Bullock, and while I agree that she could pull off the Lois Lane look, she's just not a hard-ass. So, here's my one and only pick for Lois Lane. If you can find anyone who looks more like Lois than this, well, your glasses are probably dirty ;)

Kim Delaney
Now, I don't know if she's any relation to Dana Delaney (who currently portrays the voice of Lois on the Animated Superman series) but if she is, so much the better. Just look at her! If she's not a dead ringer for Lois, I don't know who is. Her acting background is soap operas, now if anything in the world prepares a female actor to play a hard-ass, it's soap operas. You can hardly flip through the channels during the day without seeing cat-fights or bitch-fests. I'm tellin' you, she could be great.

Now, what Superman Film would be complete without a Jimmy Olsen, Superman's best pal. Well, not our film that's for sure, so here it is, Jimmy Olsen.

Johnny Galecki
Probably best remembered for his role as Darlene's boyfriend David on the sitcom Roseanne, Galecki has recently stared in films like "The Suicide Kings" and "The Opposite of Sex". As actors go, he's pretty good. He's got the look, he's about the right age, he played a comic book geek on Roaseanne, I think he's qualified. And besides, it's only Jimmy Olsen ;)

Alrighty, It's time to cast everyone's favourite Arch-Nemesis, Lex Luthor! Now, most people are pulling for Patrick Stewart (Capt. Picard of Star Trek TNG) but I think that's just because he's the most famous bald guy out there right now. Not to say anything against Patick Stewart, I think he's a great actor, and he will be in the casting call, just not for this role. He just doesn't sound like Lex Luthor, his accent is too prominent. With that in mind, I give you my pick for Lex Luthor...

Ben Kingsley
This guy is just the man. He's an incredible actor, can play the villain really well and on top of all that, he really looks a lot like the L man himself! If you have doubts about Kingsley's acting abilities, I refer you to 3 movies, first "Gandhi" in which he plays the title role, second "Sneakers" where he plays the villain (and a fantastic job he does of it too) and third (and this is a movie I haven't actually seen yet, but have been told is great) "Death and the Maiden". I think that oughta turn the tide of popular opinion, or at least save me partially from Captain Picard fans gone beserk ;)
