Dispatch Operations - The police and fire dispatch offices were merged in 1996. The dispatch center is now located in the police station. All boxes are beeped via radio - 2 rounds for transmitted boxes, 4 rounds for street boxes. No paging is used. A Class A telegraphic box system is used. The dispatcher apparently does not have the capability to disengage the Class A system nor the beeper (rendering the radio system unuseable during thunderstorms when multiple box alarms are received). (1998 info)
For all calls, the exact location of the building is given ("3rd on the right past Elm St"). Hydrant locations are given for all building fire calls.

Radio System
Primary Channel - 460.625R - apparently the dispatcher cannot receive and transmit at the same time. 458.175M is apparently the fireground channel - the dispatcher has ?no access to this channel.

-----------------------------------------------

Staffing - A minimum of 8 firefighters are on duty at all times. Four 9 man groups provide this coverage via 24 hour shifts/tours. Previously the minimum was 7 people. At times, only E5 and L1 were manned and responding to box alarms. An ISO evaluation prompted the Town to increase the minimum manning from 7 to 8 recently. (1999)
