Massport FD - also known as Massachusetts Port Authority FD - also known as Logan International Airport FD - 2 land stations and one boat station at Logan International Airport - 800Mhz trunked radio system - located within the Boston city limits
Response Levels -
Ambulance Calls - R1 + E1 + Boston City EMS (BLS ambulance + ALS ambulance)
Alert Level 2 - ARFF rigs onto field and Boston units to a Staging area (1E, 1L, 1BC, 1A, and 1 EMS Supervisor)
Dispatch Operations -
One firefighter staffs the dispatch center at the Fire HQ until s/he is required to respond to an incident - at that time, the Massport Communications center takes over dispatching duties.
Special Responses -
Massport Engine 1, Marine 1, and Rescue 1 respond to all box alarms at the Tobin Bridge
Massport Tower 1 and foam units are available for off-field responses
Massport Marine 1 responds to all box alarms at all Massport piers in Boston harbor along with Boston Fire units
Massport Marine 1 responds to all box alarms at the USS Constitution along with Boston FD units
Problems - disaster freq of 155.28 is shared with school buses - last couple of disaster drills have shown ?major problems with initial dispatch and determination of area of responsibility/agency in charge - lack of any private ambulances after 6PM at night

Boston Globe Newspaper - November 30, 1997 - article on page 1 titled "Politics a help for Logan jobs" and it chronicles how many new firefighters at Logan FD have no firefighting experience but do have apparent political connections - trainess accepted into the 92 person department receive a starting salary of about $50,000 per year - Boston Fire Chief Martin Pierce's son was hired on Sept 24, 1997 after the executive director of Massport wrote a memo to the Massport human resources director highly recommending his appointment - none of the recently laid off crash rescue firefighters from South Weymouth Naval Air Station were hired by Massport - rookie firefighters undergo 90 days of on the job training and a 11 week program at the Mass State Fire Academy in Stow - the Air Line Pilots Association spokesman says that "Our guys rate them (Logan FD) probably the best on the East Coast".

From the April 1991 NFPA Journal (or NFPA Fire Command Mag) - 73 firefighters - 7 vehicles - 80 foot boat - 21 foot boat - fullscale drill once every three years for the FAA - have a 3 person go team that travels to all major air crashes to observe and learn
