December 2001 - for the last year or so - the dispatcher ends the radio test on 154.25R by saying - all portables switch (back) to Channel 3 and test - I guess that they go to 153.83 and test - however when they had a working fire on 23 Dec 2001, all radio comms was done on 154.25R (even the mutual aid units that came in to cover the city were on 154.25R)

RADIO TALK TONE
To: All Personnel

All portable radios have been installed with a talk permit tone. This tone has two uses (1) it allows the portable I.D. to go back to Fire Alarm, so that Fire alarm will know with whom they are talking. (2) When the tone stops that is your signal to now transmit your message on the radio.

The radios have sixteen channels and they are as follows. 1. Malden Main 2. Metro Red 3. Fireground 4. Administration 5. Revere Fire 6. Medford Fire 7. Melrose Fire 8. Everett Fire 9. Saugus Fire 10. Chelsea Fire 11. Lynn Fire 12. Spare 13. Spare 14. Spare 15. Inverted this channel is on C-1,C-2, and W-1 portables and also in C-1, C-2 and the spare Deputies Car mobiles. There will also be three radios in the locker of Car 2 with this capability. [158.985RX - 154.25TX - PS] 16. Direct, point to point, portable to portable this channel will not go through the transmitter. EMS Operations - as of July 1, 1999, Cataldo Am bulance Service is now providing ambulances (with crews of 2 EMTs or ?2 paramedics) on contract to the City of Malden - previously, AMR had provided the service for several years - before that it was Malden Medford Amb Service or ?Baystate Amb Service in the 1970s (on 155.205)

22Sept00 - unknown type EMS call received 1 Engine Company + 1 Police Unit + 1 BLS Private Ambulance - Cataldo provided a ALS unit when requested by units at the scene - the ambulance operates on 154.25R with the fire units - the police unit operates on the Malden Police radio channel
